Spurs open talks to sign £80m star who could be their new Dembele

It’s safe to say that the pressure is mounting on Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank.

After the departure of Ange Postecoglou, who was relieved of his duties after finishing 17th, the feeling was that it couldn’t get much worse.

Well, Frank’s side may not be in danger of getting relegated but at least Ange Ball engineered a European trophy last term. Now, with a new regime, a trophyless season beckons.

Spurs have only won one of their last seven games and there is a sense among supporters that a new manager should be sourced. January was meant to be about welcoming new players into the squad but it may actually see a new coaching staff arrive.

But, let’s put any thoughts of a new manager arriving on hold for a moment. Perhaps some new recruits could take Frank’s men to new heights.

Spurs looking at Premier League midfielder

Teenage left-back Souza looks set to arrive from Santos this January. The defender is highly-rated and a deal is all but confirmed for the young Brazilian to move to English football.

While he is unlikely to walk straight into the XI, it continues a theme of Spurs signing exceptional young talents. Frank already has the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall at his disposal.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

On top of that, there must be a realisation that first-team-ready players must be brought in. In attack, a replacement for Brennan Johnson should be found, particularly after Mohammed Kudus picked up an injury.

Johnson headed for Crystal Palace and the Lilywhites could head back into negotiations with the Eagles in 2026.

Indeed, according to a report from TEAMtalk, club-to-club talks have already begun over the potential signing of England international Adam Wharton.

The young Palace midfielder is highly sought-after but it’s Spurs who have been making what is described as ‘discreet enquiries’ to understand the situation surrounding a possible deal in the future.

That being said, they may well have to pay a fortune. Previous reports suggest he has been valued as high as £100m. Other reports actually suggest it could be around the £80m mark, meaning a club-record fee is likely to be needed.

Why Adam Wharton is the new Mousa Dembele in waiting

“Dembele was probably the best player I’ve ever seen play football,” Kyle Walker once remarked. Another former teammate in Eric Dier simply said he was “a freak of nature”.

Yeah, not a bad midfielder on his day, was he? It’s why Spurs have struggled to replace his qualities in recent years.

They have tried and ultimately failed to do so with Tanguy Ndombele, the most notable name to grace the midfield since the Belgium international departed.

Spurs’ former club-record signing is one of the most technically gifted players we’ve seen in north London during recent years but he is ultimately remembered as a flop. Jose Mourinho summarised things rather aptly back in 2020, saying: “A player with his potential has to give us more than he is giving us.”

Players like Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur have been brought to the club since and while Joao Palhinha has shored things up after signing last summer, there is still a Dembele-shaped hole in the middle of the park.

That is where Wharton comes into the equation. While the 21-year-old may not possess the ability to be quite as progressive as Dembele, breaking forward with the ball at his feet like a Declan Rice may do, they do share some similar qualities.

Dembele was one of the most composed players in the game during his time in the Premier League. He could evade the press exceptionally, he could pass well and he could break things up.

Well, Wharton certainly possesses those same traits. Speaking in May 2024, Palace boss Oliver Glasner commented: “His decision-making, his pre-orientation, his solutions with one or two touches are amazing.”

Furthermore, the head of Blackburn Rovers’ academy, Stuart Jones, previously stated: “In terms of his attributes, he was always an outstanding footballer, intelligence, his ability on the football. His football intelligence and game understanding, he sees things that possibly other players don’t see and he’s always shown that from a young age.”

That all sounds rather Dembele, doesn’t it? The Belgian was never a rampant threat in the final third but as far as midfielders go, there were not many with a better football brain or many better at retaining possession.

While the former Spurs man was more physical, the technical elegance the two players possess are incredibly striking. Former Fulham manager, Mark Hughes, said of their time together: “The players used to call him ‘the doctor’ because every time you give Mousa [Dembele] the ball he makes things better.”

Also both boasting wonderful left feet, it’s safe to say that Wharton could finally be the long-awaited Dembele replacement that Spurs have been craving for all these years.

He’s wise beyond his years, possesses the same spark and composure Dembele used to and is a player you simply want to give the ball to as much as possible. This could well be the arrival of a new midfield maestro in the Tottenham Hotspur engine room.

Man Utd now preparing £130m move for "world-class" GK and "generational" CM

Manchester United are now preparing a £130m double swoop for a “world-class” goalkeeper and a “generational” midfielder, according to a report.

Man Utd ramping up pursuit of new goalkeeper and midfielder

Ruben Amorim made it clear he was happy with his side’s performance in their opening Premier League match, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat at home against Arsenal, with the manager saying: “I am proud of the players. I said so many times that the players need to adapt. Intensity, the way they are sprinting. They fought for every duel. They were so brave playing one against one. They were really brave, and I am happy with that.”

However, the difference between the two sides was Riccardo Calafiori’s first-half goal, which came from a Declan Rice corner that Altay Bayindir dealt with poorly, according to both Roy Keane and Micah Richards.

With Andre Onana also suffering widespread criticism since his arrival at Old Trafford, it is little wonder that Amorim is now looking to bring in a new goalkeeper, alongside a midfielder, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba known to be well-liked.

However, the Red Devils have halted their pursuit of Baleba, and they have now moved on to an alternative target, according to a report from Spain, which suggests chiefs are prepared to spend big on a midfielder and goalkeeper.

The report states Man United are now willing to shell out a combined €150m (£130m) to get deals for Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton over the line.

Gianluigi Donnarumma at Club World Cup final.

The addition of Wharton would ideally provide Bruno Fernandes with more attacking freedom, while signing a new goalkeeper is deemed a top priority for Amorim, following Bayindir’s costly error against the Gunners on Sunday.

Wharton and Donnarumma could be statement signings for Man Utd

Despite being unable to pick up a positive result in the opener against Arsenal, there were some positive signs for Man United, with new signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha looking particularly lively.

However, United’s goalkeeper ultimately cost them once again, underlining how vital it is to bring in a replacement before the deadline, and Donnarumma could be a real upgrade, having been lauded as “world-class” by Carlo Ancelotti in the past.

The 26-year-old is proven at the top level, having featured 15 times for PSG en-route to their Champions League final triumph last season, and he should undoubtedly be United’s priority target.

While Wharton is yet to play in Europe’s elite competition, the Englishman is Premier League proven, much like previous arrivals Mbeumo and Cunha, and he clearly has a lot of potential, having been lauded as a “generational talent” by members of the media.

Top 2% for dribbling: Chelsea now keen on signing "monstrous" £80m PL star

Chelsea have now registered their interest in signing a “monstrous” Premier League star who has been in extremely impressive form this season, according to reliable reporter David Ornstein.

Blues keen to bring in new centre-back

The Blues’ form in the second half of the season has taken a significant downward turn, with the 2-1 loss at home to Legia Warsaw the latest setback earlier this week, underlining the need for Enzo Maresca to strengthen his squad this summer.

One area in which the west Londoners are particularly keen to strengthen is centre-back, making contact to discuss a move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, with the South Korean now keen to leave the German club this summer.

The 28-year-old is on Maresca’s shortlist, but a different centre-back has emerged as the priority target for the summer, namely AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, and talks over a deal for the 20-year-old have already been held.

Huijsen’s impressive performances for Bounemouth this season mean he is now in the Blues’ sights, but he is not their only target from the Premier League, according to Ornstein (via Nottingham Forest News).

The reliable reporter has now revealed Chelsea have registered their interest in Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, amid the Brazilian enjoying an incredible season with the Tricky Trees, who continue to push for Europe.

Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson celebrates scoring their first goal with Nikola Milenkovic andMurillo

A whole host of potential centre-back targets have been identified, however, with Ornstein naming Huijsen and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as other options.

A deal for the Forest star will not be cheap, with previous reports revealing the Blues’ Premier League rivals are set to hold out for £80m, which would make the Brazilian their record sale.

"Monstrous" Murillo starring for Forest

Forest are making an unexpected push for Europe this season, and the defender has been among their most consistent performers in the Premier League, averaging a 6.99 WhoScored match rating, the joint-third highest in the squad.

The 22-year-old has been an indispensable member of Nuno’s side, making 31 appearances in the Premier League, and he received high praise from journalist Ryan Taylor for his performance against Liverpool earlier this season.

Not only has the Brazil international impressed defensively, but he also ranks highly on some attacking metrics over the past year, placing in the top 2% of all defenders for successful take-ons per 90.

Having proven himself as a top defender in the Premier League, Murillo could be a fantastic signing for Chelsea this summer, and at just 22-years-old, he could be a key figure at the back for many years to come.

Their next Auba: Arsenal chasing £77m "superstar" who’s wanted by Man City

Arsenal are preparing for their EFL Cup quarter final at the Emirates against a resurgent Crystal Palace side fresh off the back of a stunning 3-1 victory at rivals Brighton.

Mikel Arteta has become increasingly frustrated in recent weeks at his side’s inability to score regularly from open play, relying a lot on set piece routines.

Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are all players that have come under fire for not producing enough output in forward areas for their team. Martinelli in particular has come under criticism from Thierry Henry for his ‘decision making’.

With a league title on the line and nemesis Manchester City also struggling for form, Arsenal know that this season could present an opportunity they can ill afford to miss out on. It may be time for Arteta to bolster his forward line.

Arsenal line up January striker reinforcement

Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at home to Everton saw the Gunners miss an opportunity to close the gap on leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table. Arsenal have scored just 29 goals so far this campaign, the eighth best in the league and it has led to many fans calling for a new striker.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka are the club’s top scorers with just five goals apiece, with the next in line being Martinelli and defender Gabriel with just three league goals.

So, according to reports in Spain, Arsenal are chasing a move for PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani. The French forward has struggled to make an impact at the Paris club this season, making just ten appearances and scoring twice.

It seems that PSG would be open to offers for Kolo Muani and would be willing to negotiate a range of deals, including a loan with an option to buy. Both Manchester clubs are also allegedly interested in the attack. It would seem it is an opportunity that is interesting Arsenal boss Arteta as he looks to add much-needed firepower to his forward options.

Kolo Muani could have an 'Aubameyang' impact

It wouldn’t be the first time Arsenal have signed a high-profile striker in January in order to give their season an injection of magic. Back in 2018, Arsenal signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on January deadline day to much fanfare.

That season, Aubameyang exploded into life, scoring ten goals in just 13 league games and helped Arsenal qualify for a Europa League spot. The Gabon striker went on to captain the club, winning the FA Cup in 2020 and firing 92 goals in 163 games for the North London side.

Should Arsenal sign Kolo Muani, once described as a “future superstar” by former Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, Arteta and the fans will be hoping for a similar impact to that of Aubameyang, which could be enough to claim Arsenal their first silverware since that FA Cup win in 2020.

When comparing the two strikers, there are certain similarities to suggest that this may not just be a pipedream for the Gunners.

Despite Aubameyang having the advantage on goals scored, it seems Kolo Muani presents himself as the more complete striker when comparing their 23/24 Ligue 1 seasons.

The £77m French forward produced more assists, had more progressive passes, passes received and carries than Aubameyang and had a higher shots on target percentage with an impressive 54.5%. Perhaps the most interesting stat for Arsenal fans would be the number of aerial duels won by Kolo Muani at 51.7% given the number of crosses provided into the box by Bukayo Saka in particular.

Kolo Muani would certainly give Arsenal a different option in their forward line and one that Arteta may be desperate for in his bid to end the clubs twenty year Premier League drought.

Wolves confident of beating Tottenham to "promising" Max Kilman replacement

Yet to sign a replacement for Max Kilman, who swapped the Midlands for London and West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers are now reportedly confident that they'll beat Tottenham Hotspur to their defensive target.

Wolves transfer news

It's been a mixed window for Wolves, who have lost both Pedro Neto and Kilman but welcomed the likes of Jorgen Strand Larsen and young talents such as Pedro Lima and Rodrigo Gomes. With two weeks left until the window slams shut, however, Gary O'Neil will be well aware of the need to replace the star players who did decide to depart this summer.

Fabrizio Romano: Wolves make enquiry to sign £40,000-p/w Premier League ace

He’s a player with plenty of experience…

ByTom Cunningham

On that front, those in the Midlands have already been linked with plenty of potential Neto heirs, from Brentford's Yoane Wissa all the way to Barcelona's Ansu Fati. Both options could be ideal contenders to fill the void left behind by the Portuguese winger, with Fati a particularly interesting target given his rise and subsequent fall courtesy of injuries at Barcelona.

ansu-fati-transfer-gossip-barcelona-arsenal-brighton-kaoru-mitoma-edu-arteta

Meanwhile, O'Neil's side also need to replace Kilman within their backline and could yet solve that problem by signing a player with plenty of potential. According to Graeme Bailey for HITC, Wolves are now confident of signing Bastien Meupiyou ahead of Tottenham Hotspur after submitting a second bid worth £4.3m.

Wolves have reportedly already seen one bid rejected by Nantes for their defender, which was worth £3.4m. Offering almost £1m more in their latest proposal, however, those at the Molineux will be hoping to have matched the French club's valuation.

At 18 years old, there's no doubt that Meupiyou is one for the future who would replace Kilman for years to come, rather than instantly this season. Given Spurs' reported interest, the teenager would be some coup if Wolves did manage to get a deal over the line in the next two weeks.

"Promising" Meupiyou is a long-term solution

If Wolves manage to agree a deal for Meupiyou, his role will be an interesting one to take note of, given his age and potential. O'Neil, with an eye on the future, may yet decide to accelerate his potential by throwing him in at the deep end of Premier League football and his squad when he sees fit.

Contrastingly, given that the teenager made just one Ligue 1 appearance last season, the former Bournemouth boss could also decide that Meupiyou has to impress in the academy setup before anything. Despite that one start, however, the Nantes man did enough to earn the praise of U23 scout Antonio Mango, who described the defender as "promising".

Having reportedly submitted a second bid, Wolves will be hoping to land a defensive reinforcement who can solve O'Neil's problem for years to come in the Midlands.

Nottingham Forest struck gold on Cooper signing who’s worth more than Wood

Given the fact Nottingham Forest have signed 34 new players since promotion back to the Premier League back in 2022, not all of their new additions would turn out to be a success.

The club spent hefty fees on players such as Emmanuel Dennis and Remo Freuler, with both players struggling to make an impact at the City ground since their respective moves.

Both players have since left the club on loan, with the club unlikely to make any sort of money back on the transfers that cost the Reds upwards of £30m.

Nottingham Forest's Emmanuel Dennis

The owners have also invested well in the transfer market, with Morgan Gibbs-White being worth every penny of his £25m price tag that the club paid for him from Wolves in 2022.

However, one of the club's best pieces of business since promotion was the free transfer of one player who has excelled beyond all imagination since his move to the Reds.

Ola Aina's stats for Nottingham Forest in 2023/24

Forest signed full-back Ola Aina on a free from Serie A side Torino after the Nigerian's release after the end of his contract in June 2023.

The 27-year-old originally agreed a one-year deal at the City Ground, but Aina is set to be rewarded with a new deal after his impressive displays under Steve Cooper earlier this season.

He's made 14 appearances in the Premier League this campaign, scoring once in the brilliant 2-0 win over Champions League-chasing Aston Villa in November.

Aina's been unable to carry on his brilliant form for Forest, with the defender featuring in the African Cup of Nations over January and February, with the Nigerian suffering an injury during the final defeat against the Ivory Coast.

The former Chelsea youngster has excelled in his latest opportunity in England's top flight after a previous spell at Fulham, with the 27-year-old looking to be an excellent bit of business by the Forest hierarchy.

Ola Aina's market value in 2024

Upon leaving the Italian side in June, Aina had a market value of just £3m with Forest taking a risk on a player who hadn't featured in the Premier League for over three years.

However, the full-back has seen his market value soar after impressing for the Reds, with the Nigerian now worth €10m (£8.5m) – a figure that is more than £15m signing Chris Wood, who – despite scoring ten goals this season – is said to be worth just €7m (£6m).

Hailed as "excellent" by Cooper last year, Aina is more than deserving of a new deal given his performances in the Premier League for the Reds this season.

His rapid increase in market value over the last seven months since his arrival is nothing short of remarkable, with the Nigerian excelling in England's top flight after his three-year absence.

Ole Aina

The club have missed his presence at left-back, with Harry Toffolo doing a solid job – but Aina's energetic playstyle is hugely needed, with the full-back being perfect for Nuno's system.

Wilson & Isak replaced by £15m machine in Newcastle’s dream XI after January

Newcastle United are bracing themselves for a January spending spree as a result of their current injury crisis.

The Magpies currently have 14 first-team players who are either suspended or on the recovery table, including first-team stars Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali.

Whilst a spate of injuries has hampered their progression in the Premier League and Champions League, Eddie Howe needs to plug multiple areas of his squad, and the winter window provides him ample opportunity to do so.

With this in mind, here's what a predicted XI could look like at Newcastle come the end of the January transfer window, should some key additions be made.

1 GK – Nick Pope

Nick Pope

One of the first names on the team sheet, Nick Pope is the main reason why Howe's defence is one of the meanest in the league, with the Englishman keeping five clean sheets in 12 appearances and only conceding 13 goals, which is fourth best record in the Premier League.

2 RB – Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier serves up better quality from his wand of a right foot than any five-star restaurant. With six assists in the top flight this term – the most of any defender in the division – the 33-year-old could find a needle in a haystack with his wicked deliveries into the box.

3 CB – Radu Dragusin

A position usually occupied by the towering presence of 31-year-old Fabian Schar, Howe could look to the future by capturing 21-year-old Radu Dragusin.

The Genoa centre-back has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, and for good reason. He's won 68% of his total duels in the Serie A this term, as per Sofascore, and made 5.2 clearances – the second most of any player in the division.

4 CB – Sven Botman

jean-clair-todibo-sven-botman-newcastle-opinion

Sven Botman has played a crucial part in solidifying Newcastle's defensive unit since joining the club in 2022, utilising his strength, power and ball-playing capabilities to command Howe's backline at the age of just 23.

Although he's currently sidelined till mid-December, the Dutch destroyer's place in the side is guaranteed once he returns – having even been tipped to be among the Premier League's all-time top centre-backs by Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp.

5 LB – Lewis Hall

With Dan Burn out injured till sometime in February 2024, Lewis Hall could make the left-back spot his own and showcase why his transfer from Chelsea is set to become a permanent one for £35m next summer.

The 19-year-old ranks in the top 1% against his positional peers across Europe's top five leagues for tackles in the past year and the top 5% for touches in the attacking box, so he's clearly adept at attacking and defending.

6 CM – Teun Koopmeiners

Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

According to TEAMtalk's Dean Jones, Newcastle are keen on finalising a move for Atlanta's Dutch Dynamo, Teun Koopmeiners, who is reportedly valued at £55m.

An incredibly intelligent and athletic midfielder, the 25-year-old could operate in a deep-lying playmaker role for the Magpies and allow Bruno Guimaraes to push further forward, while also plugging the gap left behind by Tonali, who is currently serving a ten-month suspension.

Having averaged a whopping 6.28 progressive passes and 4.56 shot-creating actions in the Serie A this season, Koopmeiners certainly possesses the creativity to release the likes of Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon.

7 CM – Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Described by his fellow Brazil teammate, Casemiro, as "exceptional" since arriving in the North East, Guimaraes is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League, ranking in the top 8% for successful take-ons and top 18% for progressive passes per 90. Essentially the glue that holds the midfield together, the 26-year-old has made himself undroppable.

8 CM – Joelinton

From a struggling striker to an all-action midfielder, Joelinton has blossomed into an incredible player since Howe took charge, predominantly operating on the left wing or as a lateral central midfielder.

Dubbed "special" by Jamie Carragher, the Brazilian ranks in the top 7% for successful take-ons against his positional peers across Europe's top five leagues and the top 12% for interceptions per 90, which underscores his importance to the side from a defensive and attacking point of view.

9 RW – Miguel Almiron

allan-saint-maximin-miguel-almiron-newcastle-opinion

A fleet-footed right winger, who troubles the opposition with his precise ball control and pace, Almiron has been an ever-present for Newcastle during their incredible rise and has featured in every single match this term. A huge fan favourite at St James Park, the Paraguayan will only be ousted from the team if the Magpies invest in a new right winger in January.

10 LW – Anthony Gordon

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.

Anthony Gordon has come of age in a Newcastle shirt this term and has terrorised defences in behind with his electrifying pace and effortless strides.

The Englishman has scored four goals in all competitions, including the winner against Arsenal, and has proven he can hurt any team on the counter-attack.

West Ham: Moyes Eyes Move For £79k-p/w Machine To End Scamacca Nightmare

West Ham United are on the verge of losing another player with Gianluca Scamacca attracting interest from Inter Milan, and now a fresh update has emerged on a potential replacement.

What's the latest on West Ham's interest in Hugo Ekitike?

According to French news outlet RMC Sport, the Hammers are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike this summer.

As per the report, the east London outfit are joined by Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Nottingham Forest in their interest of the young talent who has found his game-time limited for the Ligue 1 champions.

Read the latest West Ham transfer news…

How good is Hugo Ekitike?

Irons boss David Moyes will be fully focused on the preparations to lead his squad out in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth next weekend, however, Inter Milan's interest in signing Scamacca could throw a spanner in the works.

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Serie A giants are in negotiations with Scamacca and West Ham over a deal:

"Inter, confident on Gianluca Scamacca deal as negotiations between parties are underway — current bid remains €25m add-ons included #Inter"

As a result, Scamacca's likely departure could present an opportunity to secure the signing of a young talent hungry for game-time who will come into the club with a point to prove to make an instant impact.

After completing a move last summer from Stade de Reims, Ekitike has struggled to make his presence known at PSG with just 12 Ligue 1 starts due to competing with Kylian Mbappe for the centre-forward role.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old gem ranks in the top 5% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for assists, pass completion and interceptions per 90 minutes played, as well as ranking in the top 25% of blocks and successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

hugo-ekitike-premier-league-everton-transfers-psg

The 6 foot 2 French titan has earned high praise over his career so far, with former Reims manager Óscar García waxing lyrical about the young player:

"There is something very special about him. He’s young, and he has the quality to become a very good player."

Whilst Reims reserve team coach Franck Chalencon claimed:

"His main quality? His instinct for goal. It's very rare that Hugo plays a game without creating a chance himself at any occasion. In front of the goal, his ratio is excellent. But he's not only a striker, he can play on the wing, too. Very technical. He knows what to do with the ball, when to keep it, when to give it."

When comparing Ekitike's output to Scamacca's last season, the £79k-per-week forward comfortably outperformed his position competitor in a number of key attributes including goal contributions (7 v 3), shots on target (35.3% v 33.3%), pass completion rate (81.9% v 66.7%), shot-creating actions per 90 (2.57 v 2.33) and goal-creating actions per 90 (0.55 v 0.10).

With that being said, the signing of Ekitike could be a great opportunity for West Ham to not only replace Scamacca in the short term but also to develop a young player with huge potential who can make a significant impact for many years to come.

West Ham’s Unreal Gem Was Moyes’ Star Vs Bournemouth

West Ham United topped off a superb week as they cruised to a 4-0 win against Bournemouth away from home, with David Moyes' side surely now safe from relegation.

The Hammers advanced to the Europa Conference League semi-finals with a 4-1 demolition of Gent in midweek and utilised the confidence from that game on the south coast, hitting another four goals to earn a rare away win.

What happened in Bournemouth vs West Ham?

There was a fast start by the Hammers against Gary O'Neil's side as Michail Antonio continued his fine recent form by heading in Aaron Cresswell's corner after just five minutes.

Seven minutes later it was 2-0 from another header, with Lucas Paqueta rising highest to nod in Vladimir Coufal's pinpoint cross, as he also added to his goal against Gent with another this afternoon.

Declan Rice made the points safe before half-time with a powerful finish after another Cresswell corner caused havoc, with the England international enjoying his own strong run of form in front of goal.

The best goal was saved till last, however, as Pablo Fornals produced a scorpion-kick finish from Jarrod Bowen's cutback in the second half to make it 4-0 before Maxwel Cornet was denied his first Premier League goal for the Hammers by the offside flag.

The result leaves Moyes' side in 13th position in the top flight, now six points clear of the relegation spots, which you would hope would be enough to see the Hammers safe.

Who was Moyes' best performer vs Bournemouth?

While there were a number of superb performances from West Ham players on Sunday afternoon, notably goalscorer Rice who was the second highest-rated outfield player on the day, via Sofascore, it was arguably Paqueta who was the star of the show in midfield.

As per Sofascore, the Brazilian would earn a superb 8.2/10 rating for his performance, which was the joint-best of any player to feature in the game at the Vitality Stadium.

The former AC Milan man was a dominant force from both an attacking and defensive perspective, contributing two key passes, five tackles and eight successive duels during his time on the pitch.

Considering he has averaged just one key pass and 2.4 tackles per game in the top flight so far this campaign, it is clear that he raised his game to another level against the Cherries this weekend.

Coufal was full of praise for the Brazil international after a strong display against Newcastle United earlier this year and it seems as if the 25-year-old is finally living up to his price tag at the London Stadium.

David Moyes

The Czech defender said: “I think he needed some time to adapt and understand what the Premier League is about, but I think now he has got a lot of confidence. He scored the goal at Leeds from a penalty, and then he was brilliant here. He never panics with the ball and his technique, his skills are unreal."

It is no surprise that Paqueta's upturn in form has coincided with West Ham's best few results of the campaign, and Moyes will be hoping to see a lot more from the club-record signing again next term.

Rangers: Cameron Scott attracting interest

Glasgow Rangers youth player Cameron Scott could be set to leave Ibrox amid fresh interest, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Scott profiled

The Light Blues recruited the 16-year-old when he joined the club’s academy setup, and he’s since worked his way up through the ranks to the periphery of the Scottish Premiership.

The Teddy Bears recently offered the talented prospect a three-year professional contract but this was swiftly rejected due to him wanting to explore his options.

Michael Beale is said to hold an admiration for the starlet having caught his eye during his performances for the U17s, though he could now be on the verge of an exit.

The Latest: Southampton eyeing Scott

According to Football Insider, Premier League side Southampton are ‘plotting a move’ for Scott as a result of turning down fresh terms.

The Saints have reportedly ‘been tracking’ the Scotsman ‘for some time’ and are now ‘alerted’ to the fact that he could be looking to find a new club.

The St. Mary’s Stadium could be a ‘huge lure’ given Nathan Jones’ team’s history of developing young players, though whether anything will come to fruition yet remains to be seen.

The Verdict: Potential blow

Scott is a player with an extremely exciting future ahead of him, and if he was to leave Rangers, it would be a massive blow.

The defender already has experience at international level having been fielded for Scotland’s youth side and is a mainstay in the Glasgow outfit’s development squad.

Beale has admitted that he wants to start introducing more up-and-coming talents into the first team, though that might not yet be possible for Scott with his next steps uncertain.
