The league phase for three of the Elite Groups in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 ended on Sunday, with Gujarat, Andhra and Karnataka topping Groups A, B and C.The last round of the league phase will take place on Monday, with the teams finishing on top in Elite Groups D and E joining the other three group toppers as automatic quarterfinal entrants.The format for this year’s tournament has the top teams from each of the five Elite groups progressing to the quarterfinals. They will be joined by the two teams who finish highest on points among all the other Elite Group teams. The team that finishes third on points will play the Plate Group topper in a pre quarter-final, and the winner of that match will be the eighth quarter-finalist.Sunday’s games were marked by several teams going hard to improve their net run-rates, with a view to qualifying. Group A Gujarat came out triumphant in a top-of-table clash against Baroda, maintaining a clean slate to finish on top of the group, while Baroda finished second. Dhruv Raval (102 off 129) and Het Patel (82 off 84) were the fulcrum around which Gujarat put up 277 for 7, and Baroda could only muster 237 for 9 in response. Group BAt the Daly College Ground in Indore, Andhra ensured their net run-rate would be the highest in Group B, romping to victory against Jharkhand in 9.5 overs after bowling them out 139. Harishankar Reddy led the way with the ball, taking 4 for 30. Andhra’s chase blasted off with an 82-run opening stand that came in just 5.5 overs, Ashwin Hebbar (44 off 18) and Ricky Bhui (57* off 27) ensuring a quick finish and a passage into the quarter-finals. Jharkhand would have been through to the quarter-finals if they had won.Elswhere in Indore at the Emerald High School Ground, Tamil Nadu completed a big win over Vidarbha. Having bowled Vidarbha out for 150 in 41 overs, Tamil Nadu got to 152 for 5 in 11.2 overs. B Aparajith opened the bowling for Tamil Nadu and took 3 for 10 in six overs, while J Kousik (3 for 22) and M Mohammed (3 for 33) also had three-wicket hauls. Mohammed completed a fine all-round day with 37 not out off 14 balls, with N Jagadeesan’s 18-ball 48 the other notable score.Madhya Pradesh overcame Punjab by 105 runs in an action-packed match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, but it wasn’t enough to secure qualification. MP put up 402 for 3, powered by Venkatesh Iyer’s 198 off 146, with Aditya Shrivastava blasting 88* off 56. Group CThree teams ended up on 16 points – Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. All three had a high net run-rate, having ended the league phase with comprehensive wins, but Karnataka’s was the highest at 1.834. However, UP (1.559) and Kerala (1.244) have ensured that they might still be in the running for the quarterfinals.Karnataka’s openers led the team to a ten-wicket win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a mammoth stand, after Railways had made 284 for 9 built around Pratham Singh’s 129. Shreyas Gopal’s 3 for 41 were the best figures, but the real stars of the day were R Samarth (130* off 118) and Devdutt Padikkal (145* off 125), as Karnataka completed victory in 40.3 overs.Shivam Sharma, the 20-year-old left-arm spinner, took 6 for 22 as Uttar Pradesh bowled Odisha out for 148 in 40.1 overs. The UP batsmen then hauled in the target in 21.4 overs, losing four wickets.At the Alur 3 cricket ground, Kerala bowled Bihar out for 148 in 40.2 overs, and then chased down the target in just 8.5 overs. Robin Uthappa continued his good form in the tournament, smashing 87 not out off 32, while Vishnu Vinod (37 off 12) and Sanju Samson (24* off 9) were equally destructive in a nine-wicket win. Uthappa reached his half-century in 22 balls, and hit four fours and 10 sixes overall. S Sreesanth took 4 for 30 while Jalaj Saxena, who opened the bowling with Sreesanth, was among the wickets too, with 3 for 30.For the three teams in the Elite Groups already on 16 points but who haven’t qualified yet – Baroda, UP and Kerala – their chances will depend on how other results go in Groups D and E. While UP have the highest net run-rate, followed by Kerala, Baroda are some way behind with 0.399.Group DMumbai have an all-win record with 16 points in four games, and play Himachal Pradesh in their final game. Mumbai’s net run-rate is a massive 2.268 – the highest in the league phase in the Elite Groups – so they should fancy their chances of qualifying even if they lose their last game. Delhi are on 12 points, and could reach 16 if they win their last league game, against Rajasthan. Delhi’s net run-rate is 0.473 though, and they’ll be looking to boost that considerably even while needing a win.Group ESaurashtra have won all games so far and are on 16 points. They play Services in their last league match. Their net run-rate is 1.133, lower than both UP and Kerala, so they will need a win to ensure automatic progression. Chandigarh are second, with 12 points, and play Jammu & Kashmir in their final league game. Chandigarh’s net run-rate however, is -0.213 so even a massive win in their final game might not be enough to take them to the quarter-finals.Uttarakhand and Assam are both on 16 points in the Plate Group, and will play different opponents in their last league matches (Sikkim and Mizoram), but Uttarakhand’s net run-rate of 3.538 – as against Assam’s 1.382 – means they should qualify for the pre-quarterfinals from the Plate Group if points are equal.

Tavares joined Lazio on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy set at around £7.5 million, and the left-back signed a five-year contract with Marco Baroni's side considering his transfer will become permanent next summer.
Meanwhile, Lokonga agreed to join Sevilla on loan as well, but like Tavares, his move includes an option for Sevilla to sign the Belgian midfielder for around £10 million next year. After spending the second half of last season on a temporary stint at Sturm Graz, young striker Mika Biereth completed a permanent switch to the Austrian side, ending his three-year stay at the club.
The most high-profile departure, though, has been that of Hale End academy graduate and promising midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe. The 24-year-old, who found consistent opportunities difficult to come by under Arteta last year, completed a £35 million move to Fulham last week – which is a club-record fee for the Whites.

More senior players seem set to follow the likes of Smith-Rowe out of Arsenal before deadline day on August 30. Indeed, it is believed Marseille have been in talks to sign Eddie Nketiah, while uncertainty also surrounds the future of Reiss Nelson, who West Ham showed interest in earlier this window.
Kieran Tierney has been told find a new club by Arsenal as well, with the Scotsman now far down Arteta's pecking order after the arrival of versatile centre-back Riccardo Calafiori, who can also play at left-back.
There have been suggestions that Arsenal could allow Jakub Kiwior to leave after Calafiori's arrival too, so it will be interesting to see if both Tierney and the Poland international secure moves away soon.
Karl Hein agrees to join Real Valladolid from Arsenal
However, before anybody else departs, it appears goalkeeper Karl Hein is the next player to leave. The 30-cap Estonia international, who was subject to serious interest from Charlton Athletic, is now set to make a move to La Liga instead. Hein could not turn down a loan move to Real Valladolid, and nor could Arsenal, with the keeper joining them on loan, according to Standard Sport.
The 22-year-old, who's featured just once for the Gunners' first team in the EFL Cup, still has 30 caps for his country and this move could be a real chance for him to showcase his skills on a big stage. Hein's contract expires next year as well, so this may well also be an audition for his next move in 2025.

Colin Munro will not be available for the Islamabad United in the 2021 edition of the PSL, starting later this month, because of difficulties with finding quarantine space for his return to New Zealand after the competition.Munro was scheduled to head straight to Pakistan after the conclusion of the BBL, where he is part of the Perth Scorchers line-up, but the quarantine system put in place by the New Zealand government requires places to booked in advance and, having delayed in applying, the earliest Munro would have been able to find a slot after the PSL was in mid-May.”I’m very disappointed to be missing out because Islamabad were really good to me,” Munro said. “They retained me knowing I was going to go there straight after the Big Bash but I just couldn’t get any quarantine booked in time.”The PSL finishes on the 23rd [22nd] of March and I could only get back into the country in the middle of May then another two weeks on top of that. The main man Leicester will be without is Kelechi Iheanacho, who chose to call time on his spell at the King Power when his contract expired at the end of last month. Currently a free agent, it looks like the Nigerian striker will be playing his football for Sevilla next season.

Another likely exit from Leicester is fellow striker Tom Cannon, who is linked with a loan move back to the second tier. The current rumours suggest that West Bromwich Albion is a likely destination for the Irishman with the Baggies looking to replace the departing Brandon-Thomas Asante.
With attacking talents high on the Foxes' list of priorities, the club have recently been linked with a move for out of favour Arsenal ace Reiss Nelson. A report by Fabrizio Romano last week suggested that Cooper's side had opened talks over an initial loan deal for the winger with an option to buy further down the line.

Whilst a deal for Nelson would go some way towards bolstering the Foxes' attack, it appears that the club are also in the race to bring a new centre forward to the King Power this summer.
Leicester set to battle for French forward
As first reported in the French press and later relayed by the Leicester Mercury, the Foxes have reportedly started the process to sign Lens striker Elye Wahi. The outlet claims that Leicester are set to join fellow Premier League outfits West Ham and Chelsea in the race to secure the services of the 21-year-old striker.
The report states that Lens are willing to sell Wahi this summer despite only signing him less than twelve months ago. With the Ligue 1 side spending £25 million to acquire the Frenchman from Montpellier, it is expected that Wahi will fetch a greater fee than this initial sum if he is to depart during the transfer window.
Over the course of the previous season, the 21-year-old found the back of the net on twelve occassions including two goals in Lens' Champions League campaign. Speaking on Wahi's performances, Lens coach Franck Haise was quick to sing the striker's praises.
With a number of Leicester's attacking options set to leave the club this summer, the Foxes could make a statement by beating their Premier League rivals to sign Wahi this summer.
Chelsea are closing in on an agreement for a Euro 2024 player after submitting a £43 million total bid for him, with Todd Boehly and BlueCo definitely not done in the transfer market ahead of deadline day on August 30.

This has resurrected a potential move for Osimhen, with Napoli's interest in Romelu Lukaku closely intertwined, as both clubs contemplate deals which would see the two forwards trade places.
“Osimhen is a possibility that Napoli presented to Chelsea after they already thought of Osimhen at the beginning of the window … they left the conversation because the package was too expensive,” said reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano to CaughtOffside this week.
“But then Napoli presented this opportunity again to Chelsea during talks for Romelu Lukaku. But as I always mentioned, from what I’m hearing, Osimhen doesn’t want to reduce his salary, €11million net per season, and Osimhen doesn’t want to go on loan. This is the idea of the player – only a permanent transfer or loan with obligation. So kind of permanent transfer.

Amidst all of this, there is also Chelsea's widely reported talks over a deal for Joao Felix.
Chelsea close to agreeing Felix signing after £43m bid
The Blues turned towards Felix after missing out on Omorodion, in a complex transfer domino which could reopen the door for Conor Gallagher to join Atletico Madrid.
According to Atletico insider Rubén Uría, via Sport and Get Football News Spain, Chelsea are now close to an agreement over signing Felix, after Maresca's side submitted a fresh £43 million bid – including add-ons.
This new proposal is apparently closer to what Atletico chiefs ideally want for the 24-year-old, who featured for his native Portugal at the Euros. Felix spent last season on loan at Barcelona, and half of the 22/23 campaign on loan at Chelsea, where he managed four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.
