People close to Tel are also convinced that he could seize the Arsenal striker’s spot long-term, and this is echoed by Football Analyst Ben Mattinson.

“Ridiculously talented finisher (better than what we have) and if you convince him to stay long term, he could replace Gabriel Jesus/Trossard,” wrote Mattinson on X, regarding his suitability to Arsenal. “Huge fan of Tel, huge opportunity if available, even if it’s just on a straight loan for 6 months.”

Arsenal, according to other reports, would have to pay around £40 million to strike a permanent deal for the teenager.

Jones felt she had Sciver’s full support in taking on the captaincy, as well as that of Sciver’s wife, Katherine Brunt, who is being rested from the T20Is and subsequent three-match ODI series with India.”She was being really reassuring, she said I’d do a great job,” Jones said of Sciver. “And Katherine has also messaged me as well and they’ve been very supportive. Pakistan recovered from a surprise defeat against Thailand and inflicted a thrilling 13-run defeat on India in their Women’s T20 Asia Cup clash at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.Allrounder Nida Dar led Pakistan’s charge first with the bat, stroking an unbeaten 56 after an early stutter before picking up two wickets, including that of returning India captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Her efforts helped Pakistan notch up their first-ever win over India in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup and only their third win in 13 matches against them. It also ended India’s winning run in the tournament.Thanks to the 76-run stand between Dar and captain Bismah Maroof, Pakistan posted 137 for 6 and then had India on the mat at 91 for 7. But Richa Ghosh, batting at No. 8 after walking off the field in the first innings due to a heat-related issue, hit 26 off just 13 balls to raise India’s hopes. But it was a task too long eventually for her.Stifling powerplay
Opting to bat, Pakistan openers Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen made their attacking intentions clear pretty early. Under pressure after batting let them down against Thailand, the pair looked to change their approach and was eager to put the bowlers off their lengths. The Pakistan captain ended her boundary drought via a pull off Pooja Vastrakar through square leg. In a bid to up the ante further, Maroof mistimed a scoop-turned-to-ramp straight to short third.Thereon, despite India making regular inroads from the other end – they picked up three wickets for just 30 runs in the last five overs, Dar moved quickly to bring up her sixth T20I half-century and in the process got Pakistan to 137.Experimentation costs India

With the asking rate well over nine, Harmanpreet and Deepti added 26 off 19 balls for the sixth wicket before Deepti top-edged a sweep. Soon Harmanpreet failed to clear Aliya Riaz, who took three crucial catches towards the end, at long-on to leave India reeling.Ghosh then used her big-hitting prowess to smash Sandhu for back-to-back sixes in the 18th over before hitting one more off Iqbal in the next. But the target was always a long shot. She departed in the 19th over, leaving India needing 18 off the last over with one wicket remaining. Aiman Anwer cleaned up Rajeshwari Gayakwad with two balls remaining in the chase to secure a win for Pakistan.

Jogando em casa, a Chapecoense fez valer o mando de campo e em menos de 15 minutos já vencia pelo placar de 2 a 0. O primeiro gol saiu aos 7 minutos, com o zagueiro Léo, que, após bola levantada na área, aproveitou o desvio e completou de cabeça para abrir o marcador. O segundo gol contra do zagueiro Ryan, do Criciúma.

CRICIÚMA DIMINUI O PREJUÍZO
A superioridade da Chapecoense prevaleceu até os 20 minutos. Aos 21 minutos, o Criciúma diminuiu o prejuízo e tudo começou a mudar na partida. O gol foi de Claudinho, que aproveitou passe de Arilson e soltou uma bomba de fora da área: 1 a 2.

CRICIÚMA MELHORA, DOMINA E POR POUCO NÃO EMPATA
O gol virou completamente o panorama da partida. A Chapecoense caiu de rendimento, enquanto o Criciúma ganhou terreno e dominou completamente as ações durante todo o restante da primeira etapa.

Só Rafael Bilu teve duas grandes oportunidades, aos 28 e 29 minutos, mas ele não conseguiu colocar a bola para dentro. Nos acréscimos, o mesmo Rafael Bilu chegou a dar o passe para Caio Dantas marcar, mas o VAR viu impedimento na jogada.

CRICIÚMA EMPATA COM GOL CONTRA BIZARRO
O início da etapa complementar foi permanência do que foi boa parte do primeiro tempo. O Tigre pressionou até que o gol saiu. O lateral-esquerdo Marcelo Hermes recebeu lançamento e avançou em profundidade. Ele cruzou, a bola desviou em Léo, bateu na cabeça do goleiro Vagner, da Chapecoense, e acabou entrando. Azar do goleiro da Chape, sorte do Criciúma: 2 a 2, aos 9 minutos.

CRICIÚMA VIRA A PARTIDA
O Tigre aproveitou o embalo do gol de empate, foi para o abafa e conseguiu a virada. Aos 15 minutos, Marquinhos Gabriel faz a jogada, perde a bola, mas consegue roubá-la novamente. Ele conseguiu se adiantar ao zagueiro e finalizar para marcar: 3 a 2 para o Criciúma.

QUASE O QUARTO GOL
Aos 18 minutos, Rafael Bilu recebeu belo de Marquinhos Gabriel, ajeitou o corpo e finalizou com muita qualidade. Mas o goleiro Vagner estava muito bem colocado e conseguiu se esticar todo para fazer uma grande defesa e evitar o 4º gol.

CHAPE TENTOU BUSCAR O EMPATE, MAS O TIGRE SEGUROU A PRESSÃO E VENCEU
O Verdão do Oeste foi com tudo nos últimos 20 minutos de partida em busca do empate. Mas o Tigre conseguiu bravamente segurar a pressão dos donos da casa e garantir uma espetacular vitória fora de casa e quebrar o jejum de 14 anos sem vencer a Chape na Arena Condá.

Gustavo; Claudinho (Cristovam, aos 26’/2ºT), Rodrigo, Rayan e Marcelo Hermes; Léo Costa, Rômulo (Marcos Serrato, aos 42’/2ºT) e Arilson; Rafael Bilu (Hygor, aos 47’/2ºT), Caio Dantas (Thiago Alagoano, aos 26’/2ºT) e Marquinhos Gabriel (Renan Bressan, aos 42’/2ºT).

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over Chelsea, there has been plenty of investment into all areas of the squad, with significant funds being allocated to the midfield area.

The likes of Enzo Fernández, Moises Caicedo and Roméo Lavia have all been signed for around £250m combined, as the ownership looked to replace the aging midfield trio of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante.

But despite spending hundreds of millions on midfield signings, it could be one of their other investments that prove to be the heir to Kante’s throne, and the Blues could really do with him this season.

Kante left the club in the 2023 summer window, with his contract expiring, therefore allowing the Frenchman to leave on a free.

That may not have been a colossal blow at the time given his age but he was a stalwart of Stamford Bridge nonetheless. The 33-year-old made 269 appearances for Chelsea in his seven years at the club, scoring 13 goals, providing 16 assists and totaling 20,742 minutes played.

Throughout his time at the club,the great Frenchman won the Premier League once, the UEFA Champions League once, the FIFA Club World Cup once, the UEFA Super Cup once, the UEFA Europa League once and the FA Cup once.

His ability to cover ground, win duels and protect the team in transition were the special qualities that made him one of the best midfielders in world football, and the Blues could have their next Kante-like figure already in the pipeline.

Chelsea's new Kante

Chelsea signed a certain Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama for around £13m in the January 2023 window, before loaning him back to Brazil for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. Since then he’s only gone from strength to strength.

The Brazilian was taken on the pre-season tour in2023/24, before being loaned to Nottingham Forest, where he only made two appearances.

Due to his lack of game time at Forest, Santos was recalled from loan in January 2024, and sent to Strasbourg (Chelsea’s sister club) where he played the second half of the campaign.

Chelsea decided one more loan move in the 2024/25 season would be the best route for Santos and his development, so he is yet again spending the year in Ligue 1, where he has been been simply phenomenal.

When comparing the underlying metrics of Santos so far this season to the UCL winning season of Kante, you can see how closely they rank in certain metrics, both loving to get stuck in to recover the ball for their team, contributing with progressive passes and even adding extra output from midfield areas.

The 20-year-old’s Strasbourg manager, Liam Rosenior, has waxed lyrical about the Brazilian midfielder, stating he is set for a “magnificent” career, who already plays years beyond his age, stating “Andrey plays like he’s 32”.

That’s certainly seen in the stats. A box to box machine, Santos has made 21 appearances for Strasbourg so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. Meanwhile, only three players in Europe’s top five leagues this term have won more tackles than the Brazilian (47).

His all round quality, leadership – which has even been shown by captaining the French outfit at just 20-years-old – and solidity could make him Chelsea’s next Kante.

The decision to draft Asitha in comes after left-arm seamer Binura, who himself came into the squad as a replacement for Dilshan Madushanka, suffered a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s loss against Australia. He could only bowl five deliveries in the match before pulling up.Binura is just the latest Sri Lanka pacer to suffer an injury leading up to and during the T20 World Cup. They had lost left-arm quick Madushanka to a quad injury before the tournament. Their pace spearhead Dushmantha Chameera was then ruled out of the competition after suffering a grade-two tear in the calf of his left foot during the group stage match against UAE on October 18.Seamer Pramod Madushan also suffered an injury and hasn’t played since the match against UAE although he hasn’t been officially ruled out yet.In the batting department, they suffered a blow in the form of a hamstring injury to Danushka Gunathilaka during the group stage.
