At just 22 years of age, there are presumably players of a similar age in football who would potentially be feeling pretty down on themselves if they were left on the bench for a huge international final, especially having started two games already.

However, this wasn’t the case for Richarlison in the Copa America final on Sunday.

The 5 foot 10 Everton star had been involved in Tite’s starting XI on two occasions before the final, but found himself sat on the bench as Roberto Firmino was preferred in the latter stages of the tournament.

Defying his years, the former Watford man showed real maturity to come off the bench against Peru in the final and show Tite why he should’ve started instead with an all-action cameo.

Richarlison’s display showed just how far he has come on as a professional. Let’s not forget that the 5 foot 10 forward cried after being substituted by Javi Gracia in Watford’s 4-1 win over Chelsea back in 2017/18, as he wanted to help the team seal the win – he was withdrawn with the Hornets leading 1-0.

For the urge to help his side win a league game to be so strong that he became tearful over it, imagine how that same player would’ve felt having been unable to contribute in a final for his country. That was the old Richarlison, however.

The new Richarlison calmly stepped off the bench for the last 15 minutes and got involved to good effect – he also became an Everton record holder in the process after becoming the first Toffees player to score in a major international final.

He won his side a free-kick, won an aerial duel, and also committed four fouls as Brazil looked to see the game out.

The former Fluminense striker also managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a confidently struck penalty, which saw him mobbed by his teammates as it all but sealed the win.

A laughing, joking Richarlison was seen after the final whistle, his emotions summed up by a bizarre moment in which he dedicated the win to his great-grandmother before forgetting her name (yes, really), and it is becoming strikingly evident that the Brazilian is becoming more mature on the football pitch.

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is attracting the interest of Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

What’s the word?

Villa appear as though they really want to add a goalkeeper to their ranks this summer, despite the heroics of Jed Steer towards the back end of last season.

The stopper was crucial in the penalty shootout against West Brom in the play-offs but that hasn’t stopped them from being interested in a variety of goalkeepers.

They previously had a bid knocked back for Neil Etheridge whilst they’ve also cast their eyes upon Jack Butland and Tom Heaton.

However, the latest ‘keeper they’ve been linked with is 29 year-old McCarthy.

Sky Sports suggest that Southampton are willing to let him go this summer and Villa are being touted as a possible destination.

McCarthy wouldn’t fit Villa

Under Dean Smith, the Villans have become an attractive passing team to watch.

In the Championship last term they were the sixth-best team as far as possession is concerned, averaging 53.4% a game, whilst they finished the season as the third-best passing side, completing 79.8% of their passes as a team.

When Smith arrived, Christian Purslow noted just how devoted Smith was to this style of play, saying: “He [Smith] has dedicated his career to a very recognisable, attractive playing style and he’s committed to that playing style through thick and thin.”

However, if the Villa boss lands McCarthy, that playing style would be hindered hugely, especially considering they like to play from the back.

In the Premier League in 2018/19, the Southampton man ended the term with a truly horrific pass completion rate of 45%, which would likely put their ability to play out from the defence under threat.

It’s clear McCarthy isn’t great with the ball at his feet and as a result, their ability to pass the ball around in tight situations near to their own goal could be restricted.

If you compare the 29-year-old to Steer, he ended the term with a success rate of 51.6% when it came to his passing. That, of course, is still not very impressive, perhaps why the club is searching for another option – but it shouldn’t be McCarthy.

His Premier League experience and the fact he’s been capped at international level make it a potentially attractive signing, but not when he could actually hinder the way Villa play.

Bearing that in mind, their current goalkeeper would be a far better option if Smith has desires of continuing his passing philosophy in the Premier League.

وأضاف: “قطر أثبتت للجميع انها تمتلك من الإمكانيات ما يؤهلها لكل البطولات وهذه البطولة ستكون بروفة لكأس العالم ٢٠٢٢ وستثبت الكوادر القطرية قدرتها في إخراج البطولة بشكل مميز كما فعلت في الموسم الماضي”.

وأتم: “الفريق سيكون جاهزاً لهذه المشاركة وننتظر دعم جماهير كل الأندية القطرية فالفريق سيمثل الدولة ومؤازرة الجماهير ستدفع اللاعبين وتزيد من عطائهم داخل الملعب”.

يذكر أن موعد مباراة الأهلي والدحيل سيكون يوم 4 من شهر فبراير المقبل، في تمام الساعة 7:30.

Thursday’s West Brom transfer roundup touched upon interest in a League One midfielder, news on a 16-year-old prodigy and an update on an Egyptian international. Today’s edition consists of the Baggies entering the race for a French striker, an approach from a Chinese club for a 29-year-old forward and a knockback in the race for an Irish forward.

West Brom interested in Maupay

According to The Express and Star, West Brom have joined the race to sign Brentford’s Neal Maupay, but are currently behind Sheffield United and Aston Villa. Albion will be able to raise the 22-year-old’s wages, but cannot compete with the Premier League clubs on that front. Maupay scored 25 goals in the Championship for the Bees last season.

Benitez makes Rondon approach

West Brom have received an approach from a Chinese club in regards to Salomon Rondon The Express and Star is also reporting. The interested party is Rafa Benitez’s Dalian Yifang. Although it is not known whether they have matched the Venezuelan’s £16.5m release clause, they have offered more than any English club so far.

Sheffield United beat Baggies to Robinson

The Baggies made an attempt to sign Preston’s Callum Robinson according to journalist Laurie Whitwell. Slaven Bilic and co had been willing to “go all the way” for the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international, but the forward chose Premier League side Sheffield United instead. Robinson has now been confirmed as the Blades’ new record signing.

The past three seasons have been amongst the most successful in Celtic’s history as they have completed the treble-treble. The Bhoys will no doubt want to continue their incredible domination of Scottish football in the coming season, and they will be looking to bring in some new faces in their attempts to do so. Here, we look at five players the SPL champions could bring in before the window shuts on September 2nd…

First up is Brentford captain Romaine Sawyers. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Griffin Park this summer, and Celtic have been mentioned as a potential destination. West Brom are also hoping to sign the midfielder and are even said to have had a bid rejected, so Neil Lennon and co do have competition. A recent report from Football Insider stating that the Glasgow-based club are preparing to give up the chase may pour cold water on the rumours, but there is plenty of time for a change of heart.

Celtic may already have a solid marksman in Odsonne Edouard, who scored 22 goals in all competitions for the Bhoys last season, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in the market for another forward. Recent reports suggest that they have entered the race to sign Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga. The 26-year-old netted on 16 occasions in the past campaign.

Kieran Tierney has been targeted heavily throughout the summer by Unai Emery’s Arsenal and could still leave Glasgow before the English transfer window closes on August 8th. Should he depart, Celtic could look to bring in Greg Taylor from Kilmarnock. The Scotland international has been linked with a move to Celtic Park, albeit along with Hull City and Rangers. The 21-year-old made 41 appearances for Killie last season as they qualified for the Europa League.

Another player who could be making a move to the Scottish champions is Rennes’ James Lea Siliki. RMC had previously reported that Celtic had made an approach for the 23-year-old midfielder. The France U19 international has so far made 73 appearances in the middle of the park for the Ligue 1 outfit, 34 of which came just last season.

A new midfielder seems to be likeliest arrival if this gallery is anything to go by, and to finish we have another one that could be on their way to the Scottish Premier League. According to Calcio Buzz (via The Daily Record), Celtic are close to a deal to sign former AC Milan player Andrea Bertolacci. The 28-year-old is currently without a club having recently left the Serie A outfit, and a confirmation of his arrival could come very soon.

A number of Aston Villa fans have been on social media reacting to the news that Mitchell Clark has joined Leicester City on a three-year contract.

Clark came through the youth system at Villa but only made one first-team appearance for the club and was released earlier this summer.

The 20-year-old has been snapped up by Leicester, though, in a deal that has not gone down too well with a number of the Villa supporters.

Indeed, some claimed that the club could be made to regret getting rid of Clark, with Marc Albrighton and Gary Cahill being used as previous examples of where Villa might have got it wrong.

It remains to be seen whether Clark, who spent last season on loan with Port Vale in League Two, can make the breakthrough at Leicester.

Wolves’ new signing Jesus Vallejo has had plenty to say after his first few days at Molineux.

The Spaniard has praised club captain Conor Coady amongst other things and that has drawn a reaction from some supporters at the club.

Vallejo joined the club on a season-long loan last week from Real Madrid and was Nuno Santo’s first major summer arrival.

The 22-year-old captained Spain to their U21 European Championship triumph this summer but has only featured 19 times for the Spanish giants since joining them from Real Zaragoza in 2015.

A number of supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his latest comments.

One fan said he couldn’t wait to see him play, believing the starlet was keen to make an impact whilst another supporter praised their boss, saying it shows the genius of Nuno after transforming Coady’s position and making him captain.

Others called Vallejo class and there was further praise for the midfielder-turned-defender with him being described as one sweet guy that has never shown a nasty side.
