David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady have placed a multi-million-pound weight on Said Benrahma’s shoulders before the Brentford winger has signed for West Ham United.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, the Irons will announce the signing of Benrahma on a five-year contract ahead of Friday’s 17:00 deadline for domestic transfers.

The winger will put pen to paper once the second stage of his medical is completed on Friday morning, having discussed and agreed on personal terms on Wednesday evening.

West Ham struck a breakthrough in a deal worth up to £30million during talks with Brentford earlier in the week once issues over a bonus payout were eased, while the Evening Standard propose that the upfront instalment will be £25m.

Benrahma scored 17 goals and penned 10 assists in 46 appearances for Brentford as they reached the Championship Play-Off Final last season, and sits on two goals in all competitions this term after 118 minutes on the field.

The Algerian is not thought to have been Hammers boss David Moyes’ top-target, though, having favoured AFC Bournemouth’s Joshua King, but the Norway international will not be moving to the London Stadium through problems surrounding his wage demands and associated agent fees.

GSB add greater pressure

Gold, Sullivan and Brady pushing through with plans to sign Benrahma will undoubtedly add a vastly talented forward to Moyes’ squad, however in securing a deal with Brentford they appear to have added a great weight around the 25-year-old’s shoulders before the ink has dried.

Reports by TEAMtalk suggest West Ham have agreed on a sell-on clause with Brentford as part of their deal for Benrahma, which will see the east London outfit hand over a further £8m should they sell the 5-cap international at any future stage.

The figure will not be affected by how well or poorly Benrahma performs at the London Stadium, and will not vary in value irrespective of what sum the Irons accept for his services – potentially making the forward’s move worth £33m rising to £38m plus wages if he also meets the add-on clauses.

If those claims are correct, GSB can ill-afford to see Benrahma flop under Moyes’ control knowing they have parted with large sums already and are heavily banking on the former OGC Nice star thriving in the Premier League.

He had no difficulties adapting to life in England upon his arrival at Brentford in 2018, scoring 11 goals and recording 17 assists in his debut campaign with the Bees before going on to improve his direct output, so should be able to make the step up from the Championship to the Premier League with West Ham.

Brentford Co-Director of Football Rasmus Ankersen could see Benrahma’s potential when the winger signed for his second-tier side, telling the Bees’ official club website in 2018: “Said is a player with lots of potential. He has the pace and technical skills to cause many Championship defenders problems.”

Those words have proved true over the following two years and GSB will be more than keen to see those same qualities on full display at the London Stadium for years to come, fearing the financial hit that a failed spell in claret and blue would present.

وقال كول في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “squawka” العالمية: “أعتقد أن رونالدو ولوكاكو هما من سيسجلان أكبر عدد من الأهداف هذا الموسم في الدوري الإنجليزي”.

وأضاف: “أعتقد أنه واحد بينهما سيكون الأول والآخر سيأتي في المرتبة الثانية، أعتقد أنهما سيسجلان الأهداف باستمرار”.

وأنهى تصريحاته: “أعتقد أن من سيتعرض لإصابات أقل سيكون لديه أهداف أكثر، في رأيي هما الاثنان سيكونان متساويان مع بعضهما البعض ولهما فرصة متساوية للفوز”.

يُذكر أن صلاح يتصدر ترتيب هدافي الدوري الإنجليزي برصيد 7 أهداف ويأتي فاردي من خلفه بنفس العدد من الأهداف، فيما يحتل ميخائيل أنطونيو المرتبة الثالثة بـ5 أهداف.

As the dust settles on another hectic transfer window, Aston Villa’s attentions will already have turned towards their plans for the following year.

Big decisions will have to be made, not just in terms of the kinds of signings that need to be made, but also which of Dean Smith’s current first-team squad need to be sold.

And one man whose future is really up for debate, is Ahmed Elmohamady. The Egypt international’s contract at Villa Park comes to an end in the summer of 2021, meaning that he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January and thus eventually seeing him leave on a free transfer when his deal expires.

Whilst the right-back has proven to be an astute piece of business since arriving from Hull City in 2017 – he has made an impressive 117 appearances for Villa – the time is surely right for the club to say goodbye to him.

At 33, he’s way past the peak years of his career, and whilst he’s done well in terms of his longevity thus far, if Smith is intent on ensuring his side push on and establish themselves as a top ten club, then making ruthless decisions on players like Elmohamady have to be made.

The £25k-a-week earning ace has been a reliable performer and welcome dressing room presence for Smith, with the Villa boss waxing lyrical about the veteran right-back when he penned an extension to his deal in 2019.

He said: “He’s deserved it for his performances, which is what all players deserve to get new contracts from. He was integral to the 10-game winning run we had at the end of last season to get into the playoffs. If you captain a country like Egypt, you have to be a certain type of character and player. He’s established himself in our dressing room and the English game and he’s a very well respected and good player to have in our squad.”

With Villa also spending decent money on Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest, it already feels like the club are moving in a fresh and new direction. When Elmohamady’s contract comes to its end, the Midlands side should just bid a fond adieu.

Crystal Palace struggled to break down Brighton & Hove Albion in a dull draw in the A23 Derby at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Roy Hodgson’s side started strongly after Wilfried Zaha converted from the penalty box, but this turned out to be the home side’s only shot on target in the whole game.

The Eagles will have wanted to get back to winning ways, having lost 4-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before the international break, but they barely offered anything in attack, which will give Hodgson some cause for concern.

If you can’t beat them, join them – Michy Batshuayi made the most of a challenge from Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey, and Palace were awarded a penalty as a result, despite the fact that the replays showed there was hardly any contact at all.

It’s safe to say that Batshuayi is desperate to deliver this season, that’s for sure, as Hodgson has backed the returning Chelsea loanee to succeed at Selhurst Park but the 31-cap Belgium international barely touched the ball at all against Brighton, which is a part of the problem.

In fact, the 27-year-old only touched the ball 19 times in total, although he still lost possession 10 times, which suggests that his first touch isn’t all that great – hardly something that you would want in a striker, whilst he averaged just 50% of his passes, won two out of eight ground duels, and didn’t win a single aerial duel, via SofaScore. Shockingly, he failed to register a single shot all game, never mind a shot on target!

SofaScore graded him at 6.6, which is perhaps a little optimistic, all things considering. Similarly, Sky Sports gave him a rating of 6/10, although football.london offered a fairer assessment, claiming he made “a great run and finish early in the second half unfortunately ruled out for offside” which was a “big spark in an otherwise quiet appearance.”

Quite why Chelsea have kept him on their books we will probably never understand but nevertheless, Hodgson seems determined to get the best out of the erratic £10m-rated ace, but at what cost?

Zaha cut a frustrated figure in the first half, which is perhaps hardly surprising as he was largely starved of any service, while Palace looked less than threatening in attack and had to rely on a set-piece once again to open the scoring.

The Eagles are now in 12th place in the Premier League on seven points as a result and only six points away from the relegation zone. Batshuayi will need to start finding the back of the net not before too long – and not from an offside position!

Faz tempo que Antônio Carlos Nunes de Lima incorporou a patente ao nome. Ele é o Coronel Nunes. Dirigente de 77 anos e com carreira na Polícia Militar, o presidente da Federação Paraense é a figura mais provável para assumir a cadeira de vice-presidente da CBF deixada pelo detido José Maria Marin. Apesar de ser de uma entidade pouco representativa nacionalmente, estado que sequer conseguiu convencer CBF e COL a receber a Copa do Mundo-2014, Nunes, o Coronel, diz que está preparado para assumir uma função na esfera nacional do futebol.

– Tem pessoas que nascem para comandar. E outras que nascem para serem comandadas. Eu nasci para comandar – disse ele, nesta entrevista ao LANCE!.

Coronel Nunes diz que torce pela volta de Marco Polo Del Nero ao poder na CBF. Só que ao mesmo tempo em que garante estar apenas se candidatando à função de vice da CBF, ele diz que não fugirá da obrigação de comandar a entidade, caso seja necessário no futuro, já que tem tudo para se tornar o primeiro na linha de sucessão por causa da idade, deixando Delfim Peixoto (da Federação Catarinense e 74 anos) para trás.

A eleição está marcada para o dia 16 de dezembro.

Estou sendo lançado à vice-presidência para a lacuna do Marin, conforme estabelece o estatuto (licença maior que 180 dias). Vários clubes já manifestaram apoio. Registro da chapa é um ponto pacífico.

Mas não projeta assumir?
Se estamos preenchendo uma vacância, e a qualquer momento formos chamados, temos que assumir. Mas eu te garanto o seguinte. Começou o processo nesses 15 dias, temos ainda que avaliar o que virá pela frente.

Conversou com o Marco Polo antes dele se despedir?
Conversei muito com ele, na própria sexta-feira (quando houve reunião dos presidentes de federação na CBF, e o nome de Nunes foi definido). Ele confia no meu trabalho. Mas é o seguinte: não vou dizer que vou substituir de imediato. Quero que ele continue, que saia bem na investigação, e continue à frente do futebol brasileiro.

Pediu dica quando o Marco Polo saiu?
Marco Polo não foi embora. Ele está aí, po… Não é momento de chegar, pedir dica. Mas falei para os outros: “Não quero que vocês me abandonem.

Qual a avaliação sobre o relatório do FBI?
Sou bacharel em direito. É preciso ver os autos. E eu não vi.

Como encara as ressalvas feitas pelo fato de o senhor ser de uma Federação do Norte, sem representatividade na Série A?
Todos somos brasileiros, capazes. Não é porque sou do Norte que não tenha condição de administrar o futebol. Mas não posso fazer nada sozinho e tenho que ter a persistência de comandar. Tem pessoas que nascem para comandar. E outras que nascem para serem comandadas. Eu nasci para comandar.

Como foi a negociação com os presidentes do Sudeste, já que, por convenção política, a cadeira era deles?
O prazo do Marin venceu dia 27 de novembro. E já tinha manifestação que eu seria o escolhido. Conversei com o Rubinho (Rubens Lopes, presidente da Ferj), Reinaldo (Carneiro Bastos, presidente da Federação Paulista)… Os colegas estavam com a tendência de me apresentar como candidato. O estatuto da CBF não diz de onde a pessoa tem que ser escolhida. Pode ser uma pessoa de fora. Não há referência.

Pediram algo em troca dessa “permissão”?
Ninguém chegou para mim pedindo nada.

O senhor cogita deixar a Federação Paraense?
Tenho dois vices na minha federação. O estatuto, tanto o nosso quanto o da CBF, não obriga ninguém a renunciar cargo. Cada federação é um braço da CBF. Ela trata tudo, como uma grande família. Mas se houver necessidade, iria (sair) também pela idade. Tenho dois vices, não tem problema. Posso passar a função.

Como vê o comportamento do Delfim, dizendo que essa eleição é um golpe?
O Delfim não foi alijado, ele continua no cargo, foi eleito na última assembleia geral eleitoral. Sou amigo dele de longa data. Ele era candidato e votamos nele. Eu esperava que a recíproca fosse verdadeira. Eu não considero um golpe. É um direito dele reclamar, mas ele não foi destituído de nenhum cargo. Considero ele meu amigo.

Que plano o senhor tem para melhorar a imagem da CBF, que está manchada?
Se fala muito disso ai. Temos que trabalhar, nos unir. Se a imagem não está boa, todos nós somos os responsáveis, somos um grupo. Vamos ver qual a alternativa, no mundo tudo se transforma. Não vamos tapar o sol com a peneira. Vamos colocar no papel as coisas. Muita gente fala do lado de fora, mas não coloca em ação.

Como sua visão sobre a Seleção Brasileira? Se tivesse que assumir, demitiria o Dunga?
A Seleção está com um projeto em andamento. Marco Polo montou essa comissão, eles têm liberdade para trabalhar, isso eu acompanho. Digo como torcedor: tem vezes que não dá para levar à frente. Dunga é meu conhecido, fui chefe da delegação na Copa das Confederações da África do Sul (2009). Sempre achei ele um rapaz trabalhador, correto, aplicado. Vi o Dunga ser capitão, que é uma prova que sabe liderar. Muita gente me pergunta isso ai. Estamos numa classificação, não viramos o turno das Eliminatórias. O trabalho não é para ser primeiro. Tem quatro vagas para a Copa e o Brasil está ali. Acredito que o trabalho tem que ser continuado, com seriedade.

E sua opinião sobre o presidente em exercício?
O Marcus Vicente é o presidente. Nosso entendimento é o melhor possível. Ele é sério, atencioso, um cara simples, amigo. Acredito que são pessoas assim que devem atuar no futebol.

Como vê a atuação do Bom Senso, que inclusive planeja lançar candidato à presidência da CBF em 2018?
Eu tenho acompanhado só através da imprensa. Talvez eu veja mais de perto isso aí. Todos os que querem, quem quer trabalhar pelo bem do futebol, tem que chegar e não falar. Às vezes vai falar e não tem como agir. Às vezes, joga muito para mídia, mas não joga para o lado prático. Se todos querem trabalhar pelo bem do futebol, qualquer voz é bem-vinda.

Como o senhor enxerga a questão das ligas?
Já teve a Liga do Norte, tem a Liga do Nordeste e todas elas trabalham em conjunto com a CBF e federações de cada estado. Tem que ser assim. Pela legislação brasileira, quem é responsável por administrar o futebol, a CBF. Quem é o cartório da Fifa para registro de jogadores? CBF. E assim vai.

Glasgow Rangers have a pretty stacked squad after a hefty summer spending spree, but if there’s one position Steven Gerrard still needs to fill, it’s a goalscoring, box-to-box midfielder.

What was the story?

Reports in recent times revealed that Rangers were interested in signing Lewis Ferguson from Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen after Gerrard had identified the former Hamilton Academical academy product as one of his top targets in the summer.

In the end, the Gers signed Bongani Zungu from Amiens on an initial loan deal on transfer deadline day instead. However, Glen Kamara’s future remains uncertain amid interest in the midfielder from Premier League clubs like Leeds United and Newcastle United and European giants such as Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, whilst Steven Davis’ contract is set to expire in 2021, with Gerrard remaining coy over talks of a potential extension.

Coupled with the fact that Scott Arfield also isn’t getting any younger, there may soon come a point where Rangers will have to rejuvenate their aging midfield – they have the second oldest squad in the Scottish Premiership. So, Ross Wilson must return for Ferguson in the near future.

Gerrard’s dream

Gerrard knows a thing or two about being a hardworking box-to-box player, as he carved out a career by playing as a central midfielder, featuring as a second striker, holding midfielder, an attacking midfielder, right back and right winger on several occasions as well – you get the idea.

Whilst we aren’t for one minute suggesting that Ferguson is anywhere near as good as Gerrard right now, as there is still room for improvement in terms of the diversity of his passing, he has been one of the best players for Aberdeen over the past couple of years.

Like Gerrard, the 21-year-old, who is the nephew of Rangers legend Barry Ferguson, prefers to play with his right foot. He has scored 8 goals and supplied 2 assists in the Scottish Premiership this season so far, whilst he is averaging 2.2 shots, 1.8 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game, via WhoScored. In contrast, even Kamara is managing fewer than one tackle, one interception and one clearance per league game, as per WhoScored.

Ferguson famously scored an overhead kick to take the Europa League qualifier against Burnley at Turf Moor to extra time. Whilst his efforts were ultimately in vain, Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes heaped praise on the youngster for his performance, saying he will “only get better.”
