West Ham dealt potential Lingard blow

Sharing the latest on Jesse Lingard and his transfer saga with West Ham United, the Sun have now come out with their own update on the situation.

The Lowdown: Lingard and the Irons…

The Englishman was deemed surplus-to-requirements at Manchester United before West Ham came calling to offer him a route out on loan in the January transfer window.

What followed was an absolutely sensational spell at the London Stadium, where he managed a very impressive nine goals and four assists in 16 Premier League over the second half of 2020/2021 (WhoScored).

As a result, West Ham are known to be keen on securing a permanent move for the 28-year-old this summer.

The Latest: West Ham dealt Lingard blow…

Sharing an update on Lingard, the Sun have now come out with a pretty damning claim.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news-2/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

They believe the midfielder has now done a full U-turn on his stance of wanting to join West Ham this summer.

Indeed, he would apparently ‘far prefer to stay’ at the Red Devils and has ‘admitted to friends’ that his big hope is rebuilding a career at Old Trafford.

After a supposedly candid meeting with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the player has apparently said he wishes to remain at the club amid West Ham’s interest.

The Verdict: Pinch of salt…

While this comes a blow for West Ham, other sources like ExWHUemployee believe the contrary and there are bound to be numerous sources coming out with different developments over the next few weeks.

West Ham, meanwhile, will certainly be hoping they can secure a move for Lingard given his electric form at the end of last campaign.

It is believed that a move for Lingard is one of the club’s top priorities this summer alongside signing a new centre-back and striker to support Michail Antonio (Claret & Hugh).

As a result, the club will be hoping for more positive updates on Lingard over the window.

Ex-Rangers ace drops big John Lundstram claim - exclusive

Former Rangers star Michael Ball insists there will be plenty of pressure on John Lundstram if he does make the move to Ibrox to join the Scottish club.

The midfielder has left the Blades following their relegation to the Championship and is available on a free transfer this summer.

He has been heavily linked with a move to the Ibrox, where he would join up with Steven Gerrard following Rangers’ Premiership title victory.

Indeed, the Gers are looking to strengthen from a position of real power, having gone unbeaten throughout the campaign and won the title at a canter.

Lundstram made a total of 120 appearances for the Blades, scoring eight goals and laying on nine assists.

Last season, he managed to score five Premier League goals, though he endured a goalless campaign this term.

And Ball believes there would be huge pressure on him to succeed if he did move to Scotland.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “For players like John, it’s one of them where you go to a football club, a huge football club at Rangers, a massive pressure, you’ve got to perform week in, week out.

“Has he got the ability to do that? Only time will tell. But his wages will probably be a lot less and if you’re going up there, you’re going up there to work hard and win titles.”

Newcastle transfer update on Romain Perraud

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on a move for Romain Perraud in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Newcastle need starting left-back

Jamal Lewis found himself out of favour with Steve Bruce towards the end of the 2020/21 season, having been left on the bench by the former Aston Villa and Sunderland manager in the Magpies’ last 12 matches in the Premier League, and only coming on for a mere six minutes in total during that time (Transfermarkt).

With Paul Dummett also in the frame, it is not clear who is going to be the starting left-back come the start of the 2021/22 campaign, so it would be a wise idea by the St James’ Park club to go out and buy a new left-back over the summer.

The Latest: Newcastle keen on Perraud

As per L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Newcastle are keen on a move for Perraud, along with both Leeds and Southampton.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-updates-4/” title=”Newcastle updates! (4)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, any deal would have to exceed €10m (£8.6m), and the Saints are currently leading the hunt for his signature.

Nonetheless, there is still time for the Magpies to scupper Southampton’s plans to sign him, should they decide to act on their interest.

The Verdict: Newcastle must sign Perraud

Newcastle must look to beat off the competition from their rivals in the Premier League and sign Perraud at all costs.

The Frenchman scored three goals and supplied a further seven assists in 36 games in Ligue 1 last season (‘quality’.

He would also be an upgrade on both Lewis and Dummett, given that he averaged more tackles (1.7), interceptions (1.3), shots (1.3), key passes (one), dribbles (0.9), crosses (1.1) and long balls (2.3) per game in their respective domestic leagues last campaign (WhoScored).

At just 23 years of age, Perraud still has a lot of potential, and now may be the perfect opportunity for Newcastle to tempt Brest into a sale.

Hussain out for 4-5 weeks after breaking thumb

England captain Nasser Hussain has been ruled out of the remaining Testseries against Pakistan and possibly the NatWest Series after breaking histhumb at Lord’s this morning.Hussain was taken to hospital after his hand was struck by deliveries fromWaqar Younis and then Shoaib Akhtar. He required on-the-field treatment fromphysio Dean Conway and was taken to hospital for a precautionary X-rayduring the luncheon interval where a bone in his right thumb was found to befractured. He will take no further part in the current Test at Lord’s and will sit outthe Second Test at Old Trafford, freeing him up to attend the birth of hisfirst baby. It remains unclear whether he will play any part in the NatWestSeries involving Australia and Pakistan.Hussain said: “I was enjoying the occasion and to have four to five weeks off is hugely disappointing – at least it happened at the end of the innings rather than the beginning,” said Hussain.”The ball hit me full on the thumb and there is nowhere for it to go,especially when you are hit by someone like Shoaib Akhtar.”I’m seeing a specialist in the week but our physio doesn’t seem to think Iwill need an operation so it’s really just about rest and batting again onceyou’re not in pain.”Alec Stewart takes over as captain at Lord’s and selectors will announcetheir choice of stand-in captain for the Old Trafford Test match nearer thetime.Hussain broke his hand in 1999 while fielding in the First Test Match asEngland captain against New Zealand at Lord’s. He missed the next Test atOld Trafford, with Mark Butcher taking over as captain.Hussain later brushed aside any suggestion that he is especially susceptible tobreaks or that he had been let down by the amount of protection in his gloves.”If Shoaib Akhtar hits you at 90mph there is nothing you can do,” hereasoned.”You play for ten to 12 years and you get three or four breaks – that is theway it goes.”It is very disappointing. I keep looking at what I am putting on my gloves, but let’s put this in perspective.”Yes, it will take four or five weeks now. But when you bat up the order andyou get seriously good bowlers trying to break your fingers that is part of thegame.”I have been in good form and I was looking forward to keeping batting forlong periods of time.”It is now going to be a very difficult few weeks, but I will just have totry to keep myself in that batting frame of mind.”Hussain’s wife Karen is due to give birth on June 1 so he will be able to attend the birth without worrying about any conflict with his England duties.”The baby’s due in about a week’s time,” said Hussain. “I think my wifewill be the only pleased person in the stands at the moment.”

Leeds eyeing Colombian ace Santiago Moreno

Leeds United are eyeing a summer move for Colombian starlet Santiago Moreno in the transfer window.

What’s the story?

With the Premier League season winding to a conclusion this weekend, all eyes will be on how Marcelo Bielsa’s side look to strengthen over the course of the summer transfer window.

The Telegraph have claimed that Leeds have their eye on 21-year-old Moreno, but the Whites are set to face significant transfer competition for him from the likes of Rangers and fellow Premier League side Southampton.

The report added that the versatile forward, who can play on either flank and through the middle, has shades of Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane to him, with some journalists already noting comparisons between the two.

Leeds’ own Sadio Mane

With six goals and four assists in 23 games in all competitions, Moreno is enjoying somewhat of a breakthrough season in his native Colombia with CD America.

The 21-year-old has already earned rave reviews for his performances, with South American football journalist Simon Edwards saying: “Excellent player. Can operate as a traditional winger with pace, skill and direct dribbling but also has the ability to drift inside and create. Really athletic and agile but also smart with good technique. A top player, would be a great buy with potential to sell at a profit.”

Just like Mane, Moreno appears to have the kind of speed, power and explosiveness which could see him light up the Premier League, with South American talent ID Twitter account Somos Cantera insisting that he has great potential.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Leeds transfer rumours and news!”]

They said: “Raised, trained and developed in the ‘Escarlata’ stable, he is a very powerful striker, of good biotype and very easy to detect spaces between defenders; he has to improve his finishing, but he still has a very high ceiling.”

Dubbed as someone who’s “full of quality and promise, pace and skill”, Moreno could be the kind of inspired signing for Leeds which Mane has proven to be in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Leeds must land this “explosive” Premier League star…

Deane tells Blades to keep Bogle

Brian Deane has told The Transfer Tavern that his former side Sheffield United should keep young defender Jayden Bogle at the club.

Just weeks after suffering relegation with the Blades, the 20-year-old is reportedly being offered an immediate return to the Premier League by new boys Norwich City.

Bogle joined from Derby County last summer but didn’t make the squad in any of Sheffield United’s opening 13 matches, only making his debut as a substitute at Brighton just before Christmas.

But having scored on his league debut in that very game, Bogle became a regular under Chris Wilder and netted his second of the campaign in February’s victory over West Brom, making 16 league appearances in total.

And Deane, who notched more than 100 times across two spells for the Yorkshire outfit, including the first ever Premier League goal, believes that selling Bogle would be pointless, knowing they’d have to buy a similar replacement.

He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:

“I’d be surprised if Sheffield United sold him because you have to start basing how you want your squad to develop on youth, and he’s in that category.

“He did well in a short space of time. It wouldn’t make much sense to sell him, because then they would have to go out and find the next Jayden Bogle, so I would be surprised.”
