Michael Klinger and Adam Voges steadied Western Australia after an early wobble to wrap up a seven-wicket victory over Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground.Though defending a mere 105, Sam Rainbird and Andrew Fekete delivered searching spells for the Tigers on the final morning, slipping the hosts to 3 for 11.But the former Redback Klinger demonstrated the cool head he had been signed for in the off-season, combining with the captain Voges to take the Warriors to another notable win following their Matador Cup final victory a week ago.

Pietersen immune from ECB action over book

Kevin Pietersen is immune from potential ECB disciplinary action over his autobiography after Surrey cancelled his registration.

ESPNcricinfo staff02-Oct-2014Kevin Pietersen is immune from potential ECB disciplinary action over his autobiography after Surrey cancelled his registration but the fallout could yet have a detrimental effect on his chances of continuing his cricket career in England is due to be launched on October 9 and Pietersen could have faced a charge of bringing the game in disrepute for details of his sacking by the ECB in March and events on the disastrous Ashes tour last winter. Now, as a free agent, the ECB will be unable to punish Pietersen.Pietersen also does not have to seek the ECB’s permission to play in the Big Bash in Australia or the IPL – consent that may have been refused following revelations in Pietersen’s book. He has signed a two-year deal to play for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash and is also likely to return for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.The confidentiality clause that followed the cancellation of Pietersen’s central contract expired on October 1 and his book is set to shed light on the acrimonious end to his time in the England team and the “text-gate” incident during England’s series with South Africa in 2012 which threatened an end to his international career.Pietersen’s contract with Surrey ended on August 30 and despite voicing his intentions to play county cricket during September, Surrey decided not to consider him for the final weeks of the season. He is expected to enter discussions with Surrey over a return in 2015 but any return to county cricket could potentially leave Pietersen open to retrospective disciplinary action by the ECB as well as bring tension between Surrey and the governing body. Although it might be premature to pronounce that his county career is over, its continuation might be regarded as problematic at best.Pietersen’s 2014 summer consisted entirely as a freelance T20 cricketer, firstly for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL where he made only one half-century in 11 innings. He fared even worse for Surrey in the NatWest Blast, averaging just 22.50 over 12 innings. He also played twice for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League, scoring 23 and 7, having arrived at the tournament when his team were already knocked out.Surrey’s current chief executive, Richard Gould, is the favourite to fill the equivalent role at the ECB, after David Collier stood down at the end of the season. Gould will be anxious to delay any decision on Kevin Pietersen until the result of the ECB recruitment process is known.

McLaren becoming vital to SA's ODI plans

David Miller and Ryan McLaren, key men in South Africa’s middle order, hope to take the series in the second ODI in Pallekele

There’s not much that Dale Steyn gets whimsical about but the green hills and the cool mountain air of Kandy was enough bring out his softer side. “Gotta say this place is majestic! So beautiful! Blessed to see this part of the world!” Steyn tweeted.South Africa’s angry man has never played in Pallekele before, which Sri Lanka would hope works to their advantage in what is a must-win match for the hosts. South Africa have fond memories of Pallekele, though, because it is the only ground where they recorded a victory on the tour they would rather forget. After going 0-2 down in the series and appearing out of their depth with the bat, South Africa defended 223 in the third match, albeit their fightback was short-lived on the whole.”We did the right things, gave ourselves a chance at the end, put runs on the board and managed to bowl them out, so we are really excited about this game coming up,” said David Miller, who scored 85 in that match to inject authority into an otherwise limp South African innings. He had acted as an anchor that day and relished being able to spend more time at the crease than he usually does as a finisher. Now that South Africa’s top order has sorted itself out, Miller is back to his end-of-innings role and he seems to have become more confident. In the first ODI, he led the charge as South Africa took 53 runs off the last five overs. The most impressive aspect of Miller’s knock was the way he dealt with Sri Lanka’s death specialist Lasith Malinga, whom he kept out and punished when the length allowed it. “Taking performances from the past into the present gives me a sense of belief that I have done it before,” Miller said. “I’ve got to watch the ball as closely as I can. Malinga is one of the best death bowlers in the world. But the more you face someone who has an unusual action, the more comfortable you will feel.”Having a competent partner with whom you have a good understanding is also important at the end of an innings, and Miller has found that in Ryan McLaren, who was with him in Pallekele in 2013 and again in the first ODI in Colombo. McLaren scored 22 off 18 balls on Sunday to provide the support Miller needed.McLaren’s all-round contribution – 22 runs and two wickets – was one of the unsung performances of the game and it outshone that of Jacques Kallis. While it is too early to start questioning Kallis’ role in the team, McLaren’s performances are worth noting because he was expected to miss out when Kallis recommitted himself to the ODI team.McLaren has played in all but two of South Africa’s last 16 ODIs, dating back to the series against Sri Lanka last July, and alongside Kallis in three of them. While Kallis has been used as a batting allrounder, McLaren’s role is that of a bowling allrounder, but his consistent run in the side has been beneficial for McLaren’s batting. He has averaged 31.85 over the past year – compared to an overall average of 21.60 – with seven not-outs, which come with the territory of finishing an innings. His bowling numbers have also improved marginally – 21 wickets at 26.85 apiece in the last 12 months – and there have only been two occasions when he has not bowled at least six overs in the innings. “The advantage for allrounders is that you are always going to have the opportunity to contribute,” McLaren said. “There are going to be times when you don’t do well in one discipline, but then you can contribute in the other.”McLaren is fast becoming an integral part of South Africa’s ODI XI and is pleased with how the team is developing, especially from the last Sri Lankan tour to this one. “They came at us hard in the beginning and we showed a lot of character and finished the game clinically,” McLaren said of the first ODI. “That’s the most pleasing aspect – we’re starting to show some character when it starts getting tough, and it doesn’t get much tougher than playing in Sri Lankan conditions. This is one of the building blocks to the World Cup next year, and every game in that process is important.”When Steyn can peel himself away from the views, he would probably agree.

Broad unsure of T20 captaincy future

Stuart Broad has admitted there is no certainty that he will remain England’s T20 captain after their group-stage exit in Bangladesh and with his troublesome knee in need of increasingly urgent repair.Broad has been T20 captain since 2011, when he replaced Paul Collingwood, and was initially part of a trio of leaders until Alastair Cook became Test captain alongside the one-day job. He has not been able to lead England out of the group stage in either of the World T20s he has captained in, with the team putting up an abject defence of their title in Sri Lanka two years followed by their latest early departure in Chittagong. The next World T20 is again scheduled for the subcontinent – India in 2016 – and Broad conceded that there could be a new man at the helm. “I don’t know, there’s going to be a decision made on coaching staff so there might be a few changes in the next two months or so,” he said.A change could come as soon as England’s next T20, against Sri Lanka in May – the favourite to take over would be Eoin Morgan – depending on the route taken by England’s medical staff to deal with the patellar tendonitis which has troubled Broad for large parts of the winter. There are a couple of approaches that could be taken, ranging from a continued management of the problem which may mean Broad is sidelined of less time before, perhaps, utilising England’s reasonably quiet period from October to December, to a more substantial solution that may include surgery and a longer lay-off. It will be one of the key decisions for the new head coach – expected to be Ashley Giles – when that position is confirmed next month.”I’m probably going to be unavailable for the start of the season in one-day cricket to sort my knee out,” Broad said. “I need a rehab period on my tendonitis, which is generally about an eight-week period so whether I take just four weeks in April to play in May and then take a couple of months after the season I don’t know but it’s got to the stage where it’s really sore and I need it sorted out.”You know in international cricket you can’t perform at your best when you’re carrying an injury. We’ve managed it pretty well but it’s in the hands of the medical staff and a bit of negotiation with the head coach when that’s decided.”It appears fairly certain that Nottinghamshire will not see much of Broad early in the season. England begin their home season with an ODI against Scotland on May 9, followed by a one-off T20 and five-match limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The first Test of the summer begins on June 12 then India then visit for a tour which includes five Tests, five ODIs and a T20.

Atlético-MG x Santos: prováveis times, onde ver e desfalques do jogo

No Santos, o técnico Jorge Sampaoli deve voltar a escalar o goleiro Everson, o zagueiro Felipe Aguilar e o meia Jean Mota. O único desfalque é o lateral-esquerdo Felipe Jonatan, que já disputou a competição pelo Ceará neste ano.

Bowlers set up big win for England

A comprehensive bowling performance from England Under-19s, led by legspinner Rob Jones, set up a seven-wicket win over United Arab Emirates Under-19s in Sharjah

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Dec-2013
ScorecardA comprehensive bowling performance from England Under-19s, led by legspinner Rob Jones, set up a seven-wicket win over United Arab Emirates Under-19s in Sharjah, keeping them in top spot, but tied on four points with Pakistan who still have a game in hand.England began dominating proceedings soon after putting UAE in. Pacer Jack Winslade dismissed both openers within the first four overs to leave UAE struggling at 10 for 2. Fast bowler Harry Finch pitched in with two wickets in the ninth over before a 41-run, fifth-wicket stand between Shorye Chopra and Qazi Ayub tried injecting some resistance into the innings. Chopra was eventually dismissed for 46 off 57 balls by Jones, with the score at 66 for 5, and the legspinner combined with Miles Hammond to dismiss the rest of the UAE line-up for 94. Jones finished with figures of 3 for 19, while Winslade, Finch and Hammond took two wickets apiece. In spite of a few quick wickets, England took a little more than 21 overs to overhaul the 95-run target. Opener Jonathan Tattersall, the captain of the side, scored an unbeaten 42 off 63 balls to guide England to its second win in the tournament.
