Everton transfer update on Rodriguez

Many Everton fans have been left fuming as another transfer update emerged on James Rodriguez. As per a report from earlier on in the week by Tuttosport (via Milan News), which has since been shared by Toffee TV on their Twitter page, the Colombia international is actually willing to take a pay cut in order to sign for AC Milan before the summer window ends. This is not the first time that Rodriguez has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, and it seems as if this saga will continue to drag on into the new season. The former Real Madrid star scored six goals and supplied a further nine assists in 26 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt), showing his importance to the team, and so it is understandable why so many supporters of the Merseyside club do not want to see him leave. Somerset coach dumbstruck at umpires decision

Somerset Sabres were beaten by the umpires decision at the County Ground today, where they lost to Glamorgan in the NUL by one wicket

Richard Walsh30-Jun-2002Somerset Sabres were beaten by the umpires decision at the County Ground today, where they lost to Glamorgan in the NUL by one wicket.Batting first the Sabres had slipped to 40 for 4 before Mike Burns (51) and Matthew Wood (58) rescued the innings.Graham Rose scored an invaluable unbeaten 20, including a six off the final ball to help the Sabres reach a respectable 220 for 9.Rose then got Somerset off to a good start by removing Steve James in the first over, and then Steffan Jones removed Robert Croft and David Hemp in quick succession as the Dragons slumped to 20 for 3.Matthew Maynard then hit some expansive shots to make a quick 36, and Adrian Dale(63) and Michael Powell (32) added 75 for the 5th wicket to put Glamorgan back into the game.During the Glamorgan innings there were two interruptions for rain , which had reduced the target to 209 from 39 overs.Over the last ten overs the game fluctuated in favour of both teams, but the visitors went into the last over requiring 12 runs with their last pair at the wicket. However unknown to spectators the umpires had penalised Somerset six runs because of a slow over rate and the final pair saw Glamorgan home of the penultimate ball of the match. After the game Kevin Shine told me: "I was dumbstruck, this is an unbelievable situation. I never thought that we were bowling slowly at any time. In fact Simon Francis was running back to his mark."He continued: "A silly rule has brought about a sad finish to the game today. There were some excellent performances from some of our players, but that decision just tarnishes the outcome. Cricket was not allowed to run its course today and we are as sick as parrots."

Roberts claims Gattuso was never considered for the Spurs job

Tottenham Hotspur appointed Nuno Santo as their new manager on Wednesday evening, but someone who was never anywhere near having talks or getting the job was Gennaro Gattuso, according to Spurs legend Graham Roberts.

Gattuso was linked with the job in the immediate aftermath of talks breaking down between Spurs and Paulo Fonseca after he left his role at Fiorentina just 23 days from being appointed following disagreements with the board.

The Italian was a very left-field option when news broke of him being linked with the job, but he was never an actual candidate to replace Jose Mourinho according to Roberts, who spoke exclusively to Football FanCast:

“Gattuso was never ever even mentioned at Tottenham Hotspur football club and that’s from a good source.

“It was just paper talk and Jorge Mendes pushing it.”

Daniel Levy has brought in Fabio Paratici from Juventus and handed him the task of finding the right man to take Tottenham forward following their regression ever since Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

Following talks and links with the likes of Erik Ten Hag, Antonio Conte and Fonseca, it appears that Nuno was not one of Spurs’ top targets when they began their search for a new manager.

Nuno looks to have a huge job on his hands in the hot seat at Spurs with the squad in need of a revamp, much like his previous club Wolves, who are also in need of being improved.

Spurs eye Mancini

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have found another new name in their managerial search, as they are now interested in appointing Roberto Mancini.

It is now more than two months since Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho as the club’s manager, yet he is still to hire a replacement.

Paulo Fonseca (The Mirror), Antonio Conte (football.london) and Gennaro Gattuso (The Athletic) have all reportedly been close to a move to north London, but those deals have fallen apart for a number of different reasons.

The Latest: Mancini now on Spurs radar

Now, it seems Spurs have an eye on former Manchester City manager Mancini, who is currently the boss of Italy.

As of yet, though, there has not been an official approach – mainly because the Azzurri are still participating at Euro 2020.

The Verdict: Star quality

Hiring Mancini as Tottenham’s next boss would be a huge coup for Daniel Levy. The Italian has already proven himself in the top flight, leading City to their first Premier League title, while he has won domestic leagues on four separate occasions throughout his career.

With Italy, he is doing an astounding job. Incredibly, the national side are unbeaten in their last 30 games in all competitions (Goal.com), and have won all three of their games so far at the European Championships without conceding a goal (Sky Sports).

Prising Mancini away from his current job would be difficult, but it is definitely worth a try for Levy given his track record.

Sarandeep's star turn puts North on course for an outright win at Indore

A dazzling all-round performance from Sarandeep Singh has put North Zone on course for an outright win over Central Zone in the four-day Duleep Trophy encounter being played at the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, Indore

Staff Reporter04-Apr-2002A dazzling all-round performance from Sarandeep Singh has put North Zone on course for an outright win over Central Zone in the four-day Duleep Trophy encounter being played at the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, Indore. With just the final day’s play left, North Zone needed just 111 runs to seal their victory with as many as nine second innings wickets in hand.In the morning, North, who resumed at 288 for seven, were again well served by the overnight batsmen Akash Chopra and Sarandeep Singh. The duo, who had added an unbeaten 90 runs by stumps on the second day, realised a further 60 runs before Chopra was dismissed for a patient 143 off 293 balls.Rahul Sanghvi, who replaced him, did not last long, being out for just four, but next man Shakti Singh proved an able ally for Sarandeep. With Singh proving his in an aggressive cameo of 23 off 24 balls, which included three fours and one towering six, and Sarandeep also scoring the runs, North went past the Central first innings score of 368 with some ease. The ninth wicket partnership yielded 47 runs before Shakti Singh fell to Central’s most successful bowler, Jai P Yadav. With only last man Vineet Sharma for company, Sarandeep decided to go for his shots in a desperate attempt to reach the cherished three-figure mark. But sadly that landmark was to elude him as he was dismissed on 94. For Central, Yadav returned figures of 4 for 94 from his 23 overs.Sarandeep, however, was not to let the disappointment of missing a ton haunt him for long. With Central 60 for one at the start of the 15th over of their second innings, he struck, claiming No.3 PH Sutane for a fiery 50 off just 49 balls.Sutane’s innings had played major role in calming the nerves of the North batsmen, who had first witnessed the fall of their first wicket with just one run on the board and later seen their captain Gagan Khoda retire hurt with the score reading 12 for one.Next man Jai P Yadav and Yere Goud, then, forged another useful partnership for Central, adding 44 runs in 9.4 overs. But once Yadav was run out, the North innings collapsed even despite the return of Khoda.Sarandeep claimed four more wickets, to end up with the flattering analysis of 19-6-49-5 in the innings. Vineet Sharma, who had earlier claimed four wickets in Central’s first innings, continued to impress in his debut season in first-class cricket, claiming another three wickets.Central’s eventual second innings total of 175 in 49.2 overs left North needing just 137 for a win. Despite the early loss of Vikram Rathour for four, they appear to be well on track to completing the formalities on the final day. Opener and first innings centurion Akash Chopra, batting on 18, and No. 3 Sangram Singh on 3 will resume battle when play resumes.

Irani delighted with England win

England’s man of the match Ronnie Irani was thrilled with his team’s win in the dress rehearsal for the NatWest Series Final at The AMP Oval

Stephen Lamb09-Jul-2002England’s man of the match Ronnie Irani was thrilled with his team’s win in the dress rehearsal for the NatWest Series Final at The AMP Oval. The Essex all-rounder hit 53 in England’s total of 229 for eight and then took five for 26, before taking the catch that ended the Indian innings on 165.”It went well didn’t it?” Irani said. “The play by Alec Stewart was superb behind the stumps. It really went well for England today and hopefully it will on Saturday as well.”You want to achieve and you know at the highest level you have responsibility wherever you are asked to bat.”Irani’s captain and Essex team-mate Nasser Hussain regarded England’s performance as a substantial improvement on last Sunday, when they were beaten by Sri Lanka.”We were very good today,” Hussain said. “I was very pleased, it was a good toss to win, Knight and Trescothick went about it the right way, in factso did everyone who batted.”It was a good score on there then we bowled well and took our catches as well. A few words were said after the last game but on the whole they know they’re playing some good cricket.”We just kept having these mad half-hours but today we had some very goodhalf-hours. A final at Lord’s is completely different and we will have to go back to basics for a 50-overs game, but we got a lot of confidence from our display here.”India captain Sourav Ganguly said: “I thought England played pretty well, they were better in all departments today.”Asked about Anil Kumble’s fitness, Ganguly said: “He’s just got cramps in hiscalf. I don’t know exactly what happened to him, we will just have to see how he is.”

Pochettino deal still some way off for Spurs

Speaking to Sky Sports (via Football Daily), journalist Kaveh Solhekol has dropped an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Lowdown: Pochettino talks held by Spurs

On Thursday morning, the Athletic broke seismic news of Pochettino’s talks with Spurs whilst also lifting the lid on his desire to make a return to north London.

However, the BBC also report that no such contact has been made with his club, Paris-Saint Germain, with the general consensus being that they will fight tooth and nail to keep him in the French capital.

As such, chairman Daniel Levy may face a serious fight to appoint him.

The Latest: Reporter drops Pochettino update

Sharing an update, Sky Sports reporter Solhekol has claimed he has ‘some more information’ and confirms that ‘this is not a done deal’.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-things-spurry/” title=”Spurs news and gossip!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

“We’ve just been able to get some more information in the last ten minutes or so,” he explained to the broadcaster (via Football Daily).

“I’ll just run through it quickly for you.

“First of all Spurs would love to have Mauricio Pochettino back as their manager, but this is not a done deal.

“One source this morning was telling us it very close to being done, another source just now saying that it is still some way off at the moment.”

The Verdict: Managerial merry-go-round…

As reports emerged on Thursday morning of Pochettino’s interest in taking the Spurs job and vice versa, they were quickly followed by reports from France dismissing them entirely.

This latest claim from Solhekol, whilst offering no encouragement of Tottenham appointing Pochettino imminently, at least reiterates interest from the Lilywhites in his sensational return to north London.

Spurs have apparently been looking for a new boss in the image of Pochettino to put the Jose Mourinho era behind them, and they won’t hire a boss any closer to that mould than the former fan favourite himself.

However, PSG’s firm stance and the fact he still has one year left on his deal at the Parc des Princes mean this move could be difficult to pull off.

Everton fans on Dike transfer update

Some Everton fans have been buzzing as a transfer update emerged on Daryl Dike.

As per TEAMtalk, the Goodison Park club have joined Wolves at the front of the queue to sign the USA international, while Southampton, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Norwich are also making enquiries and West Brom and Fulham are considering making a move.

Dike impressed while on loan at Barnsley from Orlando City in the 2020/21 season, scoring nine goals in 21 games in the Championship (Transfermarkt) as he helped them towards securing a play-off spot.

Everton are in desperate need of a potent back-up striker to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, given that both Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun were shipped out on loan this season, and as such their futures remain unclear.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-updates-3/” title=”Everton updates! (3)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Dike now has the experience of playing in English football and, at just 20 years of age, still has a lot of potential, which hopefully can be fulfilled under Carlo Ancelotti.
