After starring with the bat yesterday, Vineet Jain shone with the ball on the final day to help Tripura close out a tense 54-run victory over Services in Delhi. Services’ batsmen put up a much-improved show in the second innings in a determined pursuit of 316.The innings revolved around Jasvir Singh’s patient 67 after Ashish Mohanty had made the most of a reprieve – being bowled off a no ball – to score 52. Jasvir also got support from No. 9 Shuvra Karmakar, who made a quick 43, as Services looked to clinch their first win since their ten-wicket victory over Tripura two years ago. With the match in its final session, and Services on 249 for 7, it could have still swung either team’s way.Medium-pacer Vineet secured five points for Tripura by removing both Jasvir and Karmakar in the space of five runs before knocking over Hari Prasad’s middle stump.

Kerala grabbed three points for their first-innings lead after playing out a high-scoring draw against Goa in Palakkad. With Kerala still batting on the morning of the fourth day, an outright result was always out of the question but there was still plenty of drama.Preambhastn Prem’s 138 steered Kerala towards the first-innings lead and at 426 for 4, with only 35 more needed, the three points seemed in the bag. But they had to endure some nervy moments before getting them as left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati struck thrice to reduce Kerala to 458 for 8. The match then meandered to a stalemate; Kerala’s tail-enders took the score to 486 and Goa replied with 69 for 3 before play was called off.
Scorecard
Shafiq Khan’s century came too late for Jammu and Kashmir since Jharkhand had already gained a first-innings lead in a match that eventually meandered to a draw in Jamshedpur. Twelve wickets fell on day one as Jharkhand bowled J&K out for 225 and their openers with 23 on the board. Half-centuries by Manoj Joglekar (77) and debutant Aditya Pratap and a quick lower-order 37 by Vijay Sharma by boosted J&K’s total after medium-pacer Kuldeep Sharma had reduced them to 52 for 5.In reply, Jharkhand’s first-class debutant Ishank Jaggi scored a half-century and, along with Saurabh Tiwary, helped his side to 301. Shafiq’s 143 anchored J&K’s second innings though he was assisted by Joglekar, who scored a second half-century, Samiullah Beigh, with a useful 40, and Sharma, with 30.Their total at the end of day three – 309 for 7 – was not enough to set a target their bowlers could defend so J&K batted on and were finally dismissed for 366 on the final day giving Jharkhand 50 overs to chase 291. The hosts chose to play for a draw and Subroto Ghosh and Jaggi helped themselves to half-centuries on the way to three points.

Rob Quiney’s maiden first-class century gave Victoria a useful advantage at the Gabba, where their lower order caused major frustration for Queensland. The final three pairs added 153 after the Bulls troubled the middle order and looked a chance to take first-innings points. The Bushrangers were 7 for 200 when Damien Wright top-edged an attempted pull off Ryan Harris and the tail had some work to do. But Quiney combined with the No. 9 Clint McKay for a 69-run stand that pushed them past Queensland’s total, and then with the No. 11 Dirk Nannes for a 79-run partnership that allowed Quiney to reach triple figures and finish on 127.It meant a 108-run advantage for Victoria, who made immediate inroads in Queensland’s second innings when Ryan Broad was lbw to Nannes without scoring. At stumps the Bulls were 1 for 6 with James Hopes having scored all the runs and Chris Simpson yet to get off the mark.Queensland’s bowlers had shown similar spark late on the first day when they reduced Victoria to 2 for 18 but Chris Rogers and an aggressive David Hussey (39) led the recovery on the second morning. Rogers finished with 51, his second half-century in two Sheffield Shield outings for his new state, before becoming one of three victims for Harris.McKay was the third and final wicket for Ashley Noffke, but not before he had made a career-best 34. The star of the late resistance was Quiney, who has settled into the No. 6 position having opened at times last season. Quiney had some nervous moments on 99 when Nannes had to face out nearly two full overs, but he reached his milestone with a single clipped through midwicket.

Ball drops huge City spending claim as Kane rumours swirl

Former Manchester City star Michael Ball insists the club’s fans will have no complaints over their huge spending this summer, as a deal for Harry Kane continues to be mooted.

Pep Guardiola’s side have broken the British transfer record to secure Jack Grealish’s signature for a fee of £100m, triggering the release clause that was present in his contract.

City are also reported to be huge admirers of Kane at Tottenham Hotspur, and were reported to be preparing a bid worth in excess of £120m.

The Athletic, though, has reported that there is no direct dialogue between the two clubs over a deal, and there is now a suggestion that Kane could well stay at the club for another season.

He was absent from the squad entirely as Spurs played City on Sunday, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from Son Heung-Min.

Ball insists that the club are trying to refresh their squad ahead of an assault on the Champions League, with City losing to Chelsea in last season’s final.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “I don’t think City fans will complain. Yes they’ve always had the comments of ‘well, we haven’t broken the British record’ and we’re still doing what we’re doing but unfortunately, they haven’t done what they want to do, which is to win that Champions League.

“If you give any football club, them type of players, none of the fans will complain whatsoever. As long as the season ticket prices don’t double or triple, the fans will be happy to see players like that come to your football club.”

Gers fans rage at Peter Martin article

Glasgow Rangers fans are far from happy with comments from journalist Peter Martin, who said the Gers were able to win the Premiership title last term because of their rivals’ complacency.

The Gers were, by far, the best team in Scotland last term. The won the league title with 102 points, 25 ahead of their nearest rivals Celtic, and they went through the whole competition without losing a single game (thefishy.co.uk).

Not only that, they set a new British record of just 13 goals conceded in a top flight campaign (thehindu.com) – it was as comprehensive a victory as possible.

However, it appears not everybody sees it that way. Writing for PLZ, Martin believes Celtic’s complacency allowed the the Gers to capture their 55th top-tier title – a rather insulting claim given how good Rangers actually were.

An extract from the article was shared on Twitter by @KerryFail, and it attracted plenty of attention from the Gers supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the the fans had to say about the Martin article below

Leicestershire CCC16-Sep-2002Iain Sutcliffe, who goes to the Oval for the final Championship match against Surrey this week needing just eight more runs to reach 1,000 for the season, has been named as Leicestershire’s Bland Bankart “Player of the Month” for August. The left-handed opening batsman scored a total of 363 Championship runs during the month at an impressive average of 90.75. Trevor Ward is also a serious doubt with a knee injury, and Rob Cunliffe stands by to replace him.

West Ham: Fans left livid by ExWHUemployee’s update on Declan Rice

Declan Rice has reportedly rejected two contract offers with West Ham, with both offers being below the weekly wage of Andriy Yarmolenko, according to ExWHUemployee.

This update comes after The Telegraph’s Matt Law reported that the West Ham midfielder has turned down two contract offers from the club.

Rice was an important member of David Moyes’ squad in the 2020/21 season, with the 22-year-old making 32 league starts from his 38 appearances in the Premier League.

West Ham finished sixth in the top-flight standings last term, and will be keen to build on that strong campaign heading into the new season, which gets underway on Sunday 15th August against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Rice has had interest from Chelsea in recent months, whilst Liverpool are also believed to be keen on landing his signature this summer, after this recent update on his future with West Ham.

The midfielder was labelled as ‘top drawer’ by Wolves’ all-time top goalscorer Steve Bull in an exclusive interview with Football Transfer Tavern.

Plenty of West Ham supporters took to social media after this update, with the majority being hugely frustrated.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below….

“Wait so the “big bumper contract” that we’ve offered him is less than £100k a week. We’re run by clowns.”

Credit: @ninkjones02

“We’re an absolute joke of a club. Good luck to him deserves more and better than this club. Would love to see him and go on and win titles.”

Credit: @DannyP2795

“Insulting. Should be the best paid player at the club. We’ve shaved about £600k a week off the wage bill last few years.”

Credit: @irons85858585

“Get rid of Yarmalenko and Anderson that’s 200k per week saved and make Rice the highest earner. Simple solution. Get it done WHU.”

Credit: @Lord_Irons

“Disgrace, its as if they almost want to upset him so he asks for a move. He should be the highest paid player at the club no question about it If they value him at £100 million pay then pay him accordingly.”

Credit: @RichardGSBOUT

“Offer him what he wants.”

Credit: @consmith26

“Then good for him. Deserves to be our highest-paid player. Should be building a team round him.”

Credit: @GameRiotArmy

“Bit insulting that he has been offered lower than both of those players!”

Credit: @IanWebber78

“That’s fair enough imo. So pay him more.”
