Wolves must unleash dangerous £30k-p/w Fabio Silva upgrade

Wolverhampton Wanderers are heading into the international break off the back of a defeat after their 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

How did Wolves lose to Palace?

The home side took the lead in the 56th minute after a relatively quiet first half as Tyrick Mitchell's low cross into the front post area was prodded into the back of the net by French centre-forward Odsonne Edouard.

Hwang Hee-chan soon levelled the scores less than ten minutes later as Pedro Neto's corner was diverted into the far corner by the South Korea international.

However, Gary O'Neil's side failed to push on to go and win the match as Palace took control and made it 3-1 by the 84th minute thanks to two superb goals from Eberechi Eze and Edouard, who both found room within the box to slot the ball past Jose Sa.

A 96th-minute consolation goal from Matheus Cunha had no bearing on the match as it came far too late for the away side to mount a comeback in the closing stages.

How did Fabio Silva perform against Palace?

One player who should be in danger of losing their place in the starting line-up is Fabio Silva after his disappointing performance at the top end of the pitch.

Wolves striker Fabio Silva.

The 21-year-old marksman struggled, once again, to prove that he is ready to lead the line and offer a goal threat for Wolves. As a result, he must be ditched from the starting team in favour of Hwang, who has proven he is able to chip in with goals at this level.

Silva played 74 minutes of the game and offered very little in and out of possession. His lack of presence through the middle was evident as he lost four of his six ground duels and his only aerial battles throughout the clash.

The youngster also failed to register a single effort on target and accumulated a woeful 0.04 xG and 0.07 xA, showing that the Portuguese striker did not get into strong goalscoring positions or provide his teammates with opportunities in front of goal.

The former Porto starlet has started three of Wolves' four Premier League matches so far this season and has so far contributed with zero goals and has also failed to create any big chances for teammates.

His lack of strength has been on display throughout the campaign so far as the former PSV loanee has lost 100% of his aerial duels and 55% of his battles in total, whilst he has been unable to make up for that with his play in possession having missed two 'big chances'.

This underwhelming start to the season comes after Silva managed four goals and one assist in 14 Eredivisie matches for PSV last term, in which time he lost 65% of his physical contests and spurned four 'big chances' for the Dutch outfit.

Consequently, O'Neil should drop the talent from the XI after the international break as they host Liverpool at the Molineux. Instead, Hwang should be unleashed from the start.

How good is Hwang Hee-chan?

The £30k-per-week hotshot is far from a prolific number nine but his form at the start of this season suggests that he has the quality to offer considerably more than Silva at the top end of the pitch.

Wolves striker Hee-chan Hwang.

Goals have been hard to come by for Wolves in recent times as they only hit the back of the net 31 times in 38 Premier League matches last term and they have only managed four in four so far during the 2023/24 campaign, with two of those coming from the South Korean.

Hwang has showcased his qualities off the bench with two goals and one 'big chance' created for a teammate in three substitute outings, alongside a start in the only league win so far against Everton.

He has averaged an excellent Sofascore rating of 7.13 for the club with only two players – Jose Sa and Pedro Neto – having averaged higher ratings within the squad. It shows that the former RB Leipzig man has been one of the team's outstanding performers in spite of his limited time on the pitch.

The 27-year-old produced three goals and one assist in 12 top-flight starts during the 2022/23 campaign and five goals alongside one assist in 20 starts throughout the previous term. Again, hardly outstanding but there is untapped potential just waiting to be unleashed.

Over the last 365 days, Hwang ranks in the top 9% of his positional peers throughout Europe's top five leagues for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.41), showing that the talented frontman has been an efficient scorer compared to the minutes he has played against other strikers in Europe.

His superb level of production off the bench in recent weeks suggests that the versatile star, who can play on either flank or through the middle as a centre-forward, is able to offer far more than Silva, both as a scorer and a creator.

Hwang could also be a big upgrade on the young forward when it comes to putting in the hard yards for the team to do his defensive work against the ball.

During the 2022/23 campaign, the South Korean ranked within the top 11% or higher of his Premier League positional peers for tackles (1.59) and blocks (1.43) per 90, whilst he also made 0.40 interceptions per 90, as per FBref.

For context, Silva ranked within the bottom 38% or lower of his Eredivisie positional peers during his loan spell with PSV for tackles (0.44), blocks (0.59), and interceptions (0.15) per 90.

Evidently, the former RB Salzburg man offers far more than the 21-year-old striker out of possession to cut out opposition attacks at source. This is no doubt a valuable trait as it helps to prevent the other team from creating regular chances.

Therefore, O'Neil must unleash Hwang, who was once described as a "dangerous" forward by ex-Arsenal ace Kevin Campbell, from the start after the international break.

He'd certainly improve Wolves' attack to give them the best possible chance of scoring enough goals to pick up the points that they will ultimately need to beat the drop.

Man-of-the-Series award a 'painful reminder' – Raza

Heartbroken allrounder Sikandar Raza used his platform while accepting his Man-of-the-Series award at the World Cup Qualifier in Harare that the trophy would be a “painful reminder” of how Zimbabwe could not make it to the 2019 World Cup, which will feature 10 teams compared to 14 teams of the 2015 event. After accepting the award at the post-match presentation – one that included ICC chief executive David Richardson – following Afghanistan’s win over West Indies in the final, Raza poured out his emotions while also throwing his support behind the Associates teams.”Certainly, not happy at all,” Raza said in response to commentator Pommie Mbangwa asking if he was “happy” with the award. “I think this trophy will serve as a painful reminder of the dreams that we had and we couldn’t get it done. This trophy will also serve as a reminder for the 15 million dreams that we crushed.”When I started playing cricket, I thought it was to unite countries, players of different background coming together to play this beautiful sport. Unfortunately, you’ll see that’s not going to happen in next year’s World Cup. It’s certainly quite a tough pill to swallow.”After winning two of their four matches in the Super Sixes stage of the tournament, Zimbabwe had to win what turned out to be their last match, against UAE, to seal a World Cup berth along with West Indies. They restricted UAE to 235 for 7 in 47.5 overs but a rain interruption revised Zimbabwe’s target to 230 from only 40 overs. Zimbabwe came agonisingly close to lose by only three runs.Rather than reflect on his own performances during the tournament – which included 319 runs at 53.17, a team-best 15 wickets at 17.60 and three Man-of-the-Match awards – Raza went on to praise the hard work of some of the Associate teams and captains who also bowed out of the tournament.”This trophy will also serve as a reminder of the hard work that Peter Borren and his Dutch players, Kyle Coetzer and his Scottish players, Rohan Mustafa and his UAE players, and all the other countries that came and couldn’t make it to the World Cup,” he said. The heartbreak of Scotland’s slim loss to West Indies by five runs was also magnified in their chase of 199 by an iffy lbw decision of top-scorer Richie Berrington when he was given out just before a rain break which placed Scotland behind the par DLS score.Raza, however, hailed Nepal’s rise to ODI status at the tournament as a result of their eighth-place finish, but called attention to the fact that Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong had lost ODI status. This is in part due to the ICC’s recent decision to limit ODI status to 16 countries. Since 2005, a minimum of six Associate countries had maintained ODI status, but the decision meant that now only four countries have that designation and Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong were stripped of that status due to finishing in the bottom two of the World Cup Qualifier.”Yes there were some good things as well,” Raza said. “Congratulations to Nepal and to have their ODI status for the first time but this trophy will also serve as a painful reminder that two of our brother countries lost their ODI status as well and I wish them the very best of luck. Not much to say to be honest, Pommie, just a whole lot of emotions. Just a painful reminder to be honest.”The 2019 World Cup will be the first time that Zimbabwe will not participate in a World Cup since 1979. As an Associate nation, Zimbabwe qualified for the World Cup in 1983, 1987 and 1992 by winning the respective ICC Trophy tournaments for Associate countries that preceded each of those World Cups. After being elevated to Test status, Zimbabwe received automatic entry to the following six World Cups beginning in 1996 through 2015.

Everton: Dyche could ditch Mykolenko for ‘excellent’ Finch Farm gem

Amid what has been another poor start to the campaign for Everton – with just one point from their opening five Premier League games – one issue that has been exposed is the lack of a quality, first-choice option at left-back.

In truth, those woes stretch back to the sale of Lucas Digne during the end of Rafa Benitez's time in charge back in January 2022, with the Frenchman moving to Aston Villa after having racked up 26 goals and assists in 127 games in all competitions for the Toffees.

In his absence, the Merseysiders turned to Ukrainian starlet Vitaliy Mykolenko to fill that void, although the former Dynamo Kyiv has failed to earn a regular role in the side of late, having made just his first league appearance of the season against Arsenal last time out.

The fact that manager Sean Dyche has favoured veteran asset Ashley Young in that role, while Ben Godfrey has also been a makeshift option in recent years, is a stark indication of the club's shortcomings in that department.

Everton manager Sean Dyche.

With that in mind, it may be time for the former Burnley boss to consider looking to the academy in order to find a much-needed solution in that role, with Mykolenko, in particular, having not been up to scratch.

How much did Everton pay for Mykolenko?

It still remains a bizarre decision for the Everton board to have backed Benitez and his decision to part ways with Digne just over 18 months ago, only for the Spaniard himself to depart just days later after receiving the sack.

The exit of the one-time Barcelona full-back ensured that the Merseysiders were forced to dip into the market late in that January window, with then-boss Frank Lampard snapping up Mykolenko for a reported fee of around £17.9m.

The 24-year-old has since made 53 appearances in all competitions following that move from his homeland, albeit having been unable to replicate Digne's attacking threat, after scoring just once and providing no assists in that time.

Those woes in the final third are also laid bare by the fact that the £58k-per-week asset ranks in just the bottom 5% among those in his position in Europe's top five leagues for progressive carries and in just the bottom 37% for pass completion, showcasing his seemingly erratic nature in possession.

It is not as if the 34-cap international has fared much better in a defensive sense, ranking in the top 50% for aerial duels won and in only the top 39% for tackles made, while he also lost seven of his 12 ground duels against the Gunners last time out.

The £13m-rated dud – who was also 'tortured' by Italy's Nicolo Zaniolo while on international duty – may then need to be properly replaced sooner rather than later, rather than relying on the ageing Young and usual centre-back, Godfrey.

Who could replace Mykolenko?

There aren't exactly too many options for Dyche to consider, with the Merseysiders having notably endured the frustration of losing promising left-back talent Ishe Samuels-Smith to Premier League rivals Chelsea over the summer.

Having been included in The Guardian's Next Gen List for 2022, Samuels-Smith looked set for a bright future at Goodison and was even training with the first team last season, hence the disappointment at seeing the 17-year-old move on to Stamford Bridge.

Vitaliy Mykolenko

With the Toffees having also allowed 22-year-old Frenchman, Niels Nkounkou to depart in January, there is a distinct lack of depth in that department – particularly with former loanee Ruben Vinagre also no longer at the club.

That being said, however, a possible replacement for Mykolenko could have presented itself in the form of academy star, Mackenzie Hunt, with the versatile gem having caught the eye at Finch Farm in recent times.

Who is Mackenzie Hunt?

It was not too long ago that the 21-year-old was among those who looked set for a departure heading into the 2022 summer window, with the Englishman having been approaching the end of his contract at the time.

Thankfully, as far as Dyche is concerned, the youngster was subsequently offered a contract extension in June of last year, with the Toffees having made a wise move in keeping the defender on the books – such has been his standout form since then.

While noted as an attacking midfielder by trade, Hunt has slotted in at left-back predominantly over the past year or so, providing two goals and two assists in 23 games in all competitions last term as a marker of his desire to get forward from his defensive berth, unlike Mykolenko.

As The Athletic's Patrick Boyland noted, the promising machine also netted a "special" strike for the U21's in the friendly clash with Braga back in September 2022, producing a spectacular volley from just outside the area on his left foot.

While hampered by injury in the past, Hunt looks to be back fit and firing at present, having also received praise from youth coach Paul Tait for his display against Doncaster Rovers in the recent EFL Trophy meeting:

“Macca [Hunt] was also excellent and he showed his versatility going in at centre-back. He was really good in possession."

Although that display came with the academy sensation lining up in a centre-back berth for a spell, the quality of his performance against senior opposition will have caught the eye, as he notably won 16 duels on the day.

Just as impressive was his ability to play out from the back – in contrast to the awkward Mykolenko – as he successfully completed all six of his attempted dribbles, as well as winning three fouls as a sign of just what a threat he can be in an attacking sense, as per Sofascore.

To be able to replicate such a performance at Premier League level is a different challenge altogether – while Hunt is yet to even make a senior appearance for the Toffees – although with Dyche having an obvious problem at left-back, the Finch Farm prospect could be the perfect answer.

Phil Hay Shares Fresh Leeds Fitness Concern

Leeds United have a number of injured players at the moment and there could be a new concern at Elland Road, according to an update from reliable journalist Phil Hay.

Who is injured for Leeds?

The Whites have made a stuttering start to their Championship campaign, having arguably gone into the new season as one of the favourites to earn promotion to the Premier League, possessing plenty of quality in their squad.

On Saturday afternoon, Daniel Farke's side could only draw 0-0 at home to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, however, giving the Owls their first point of the season in the process. It means that Leeds only have picked up six points from their opening five league games of 2023/24, winning just once in the process, which is undoubtedly a disappointing return.

While some of the performances haven't been good enough, the Whites do at least have the excuse of having numerous players sidelined through injury at the moment. Patrick Bamford is one of those, as he continues to struggle with fitness problems, while the likes of Sam Byram and Dan James are also absent currently alongside Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas.

Now, a new player appears to have picked up a fresh issue, following a key claim that has emerged from a reliable source.

archie-gray-transfer-gossip-leeds-united-farke-glen-kamara-rangers

Is Leeds youngster Archie Gray injured?

Taking to X, Hay confirmed that Archie Gray won't be heading off with England's Under-19s on international duty due to a 'minor fitness concern'.

"Archie Gray not going away with England's U19s. Leeds United withdrawing him from the squad because of a minor fitness concern. Tyring to manage his load and make sure he's fit for Millwall. Played in every game so far this season."

Gray, dubbed "sensational" against Ipswich Town recently, is a hugely exciting talent at Leeds who has already become a regular at the age of just 17, already starting five Championship matches this season. In that time, he has averaged 1.4 tackles per game in the competition and has enjoyed a 93.3% pass completion rate across two EFL Cup appearances, making his presence felt in the middle of the park.

This is, therefore, a worrying update for the Whites, with the hope being that the club are just being careful, not wanting him to potentially aggravate a minor issue while on international duty. If he can rest during the upcoming break from domestic action, he will hopefully be available for his side's next league game, which comes away to Millwall on September 17th.

Read the latest Leeds transfer news HERE…

Gray's quality as a player has been outlined by former Liverpool midfielder and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who once said of him:

"Archie Gray, 15 years of age, has travelled with the Leeds squad today. He is going to be a tremendous young player, from the famous Gray family."

To be such a regular player at just 17 years of age says so much about the teenager's potential as a footballer, with a combined 18 caps for England at youth team level further highlighting his pedigree and ceiling, having won one, eight and nine caps for the Three Lions' Under-15s, Under-16s and Under-18s respectively.

To see him miss a chunk of action would be another blow, but Hay's update does suggest that the injury shouldn't be anything too serious.

Aston Villa: Emery’s big talent is poised to write a bigger legacy than Delph

Aston Villa have seen an abundance of talent grace the club over the years, with some names more memorable than others with reference to the legacy they leave behind.

Unai Emery is in the process of writing his own legacy with the Villans, which he has started strongly by firing the Midlands side back into European competition for the first time in 2010.

The Spaniard joined the club back in October 2022 and hasn’t looked back, with only Pep Guardiola earning more points than him in 2023 in the Premier League.

As well as guiding Villa to make assured improvements on the pitch, the former Arsenal boss has inspired some players in particular to rediscover their form, with the likes of Tyrone Mings and John McGinn shining under his instruction.

While Emery spun the results of Steven Gerrard’s squad to take them from 16th to 7th during his first season, the Spaniard has continued the Englishman’s development of one notable player.

Academy star Jacob Ramsey was unearthed by Dean Smith and nurtured by Gerrard, to then become a regular starter in the four-time Europa League winner’s system.

At just 22-years-old, the academy graduate has secured 101 senior appearances for his boyhood club, with many more expected to come once he recovers from injury.

The midfielder will hope to follow in the footsteps of other midfielders before him, with the benchmark high in terms of names he could one day aspire to reach, and surpass, the levels of at Villa Park.

How good was Fabian Delph?

With 134 appearances for Aston Villa, one memorable figure in midfield over the years for the club is Fabian Delph, who rewrote his own history from a positive to a negative narrative.

The Englishman was signed from Leeds United in 2009 for £8m on the back of some impressive performances for the Whites as a teen, inspiring Martin O’Neill to chase his services and obtain his signature at Villa Park.

During his time in the Midlands, the Bradford-born ace rose through the seasons of his career, going from a young prospect to an England international and a midfielder with expertise playing in the Premier League.

fabian-delph-aston-villa

That wasn’t always the story for the Englishman, who suffered multiple injuries during his time at Villa, including an ACL rupture in 2010 that saw him miss a significant chunk of his development time.

The midfielder was also shipped back to Leeds for a half-season loan spell in the hope that he could rediscover his form and fitness, with the Villans remaining loyal to the player whom they saw so much potential in.

Things began to pick up for Delph from the 2012/13 campaign, where he emerged as a force to be reckoned with in midfield, maintaining his form into the next year that will go down as arguably his best term in the Midlands.

In the 2013/14 season, the former Villa ace showed why O’Neill pushed to bring him to the club, as he secured 34 Premier League appearances, contributing to six goals, scoring three and assisting three.

Such form earned him his first England call-up in September 2014, when Roy Hodgson handed him his debut in an international friendly against Norway.

The midfielder went on to receive 20 caps for his country, with four of them coming in the 2018 World Cup.

Delph owed a lot to Villa for sticking by him during the lows of his frequent injury issues, as well as giving him the space and tools to discover his form and quality in the top-flight, with him even tipped to be a “captain in the making” by Paul Lambert in 2015.

What happened to Fabian Delph?

2015 was a whirlwind year for Delph, who became a hero in the eyes of the Villa faithful as he suppressed interest from Manchester City to commit his future to the club and captain the club going forward.

The Englishman was rumoured to be wanted by City, and dealt with speculation the way that those in the Midlands would’ve wanted, setting “the record straight” to announce “I’m not leaving” via the club’s official site, relayed by the Guardian.

Not even a week later, and the midfielder was unveiled as a City player, as Manuel Pellegrini’s side exercised the £8m release clause in his contract, with the player accepting the move.

fabian-delph-manchester-city

Delph didn’t have to “set the record straight” in the same way that Villa didn’t have to hand the player their full support at times when he wasn’t performing or fit, however the 25-year-old went against his word and left the club.

On his day, the Englishman was a superb member of Villa’s squad and an integral figure at the club, however he left a villain, and not the type that is lauded by those at Villa Park.

Could Jacob Ramsey succeed the legacy of Fabian Delph?

Villa fans will always remember Delph with a sense of hostility due to his actions, however the midfielder can be made forgettable with other talent poised to succeed his playing legacy at the club.

A fellow central midfielder, Ramsey is in position to surpass Delph’s legacy with ease, with him already recording more goal contributions to the shunned former player at the age of just 22.

In 101 senior appearances, the fellow Englishman has had a hand in 22 goals, scoring 12 and assisting 10, coming of age under Gerrard and continuing his development under Emery to be seen as a crucial member of the squad.

Born in Birmingham and a product of Villa’s academy, Ramsey is already a fan favourite at the club, as well as him being a “serious talent”, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango.

Already valued around the £50m mark, the tools are there for the midfielder to not only become one of the most memorable central midfielders in the Premier League era for Villa, but to also block out names such as Delph, who left a bitter taste in mouths in the Midlands.

The now-retired villain could have had a similar path at Villa Park, however his lack of loyalty can easily be replaced by players such as Ramsey, who are committed and thriving at the club, with no limit to just how far their talents can stretch.

As coisas simplesmente acontecem. O Brenner estava numa noite feliz – afirmou o treinador do São Paulo.

Aliás, saudades do presidente.

Jogou bem contra o Santos, jogou bem contra o Inter, jogou bem contra o Coritiba.

He had Trent Copeland caught behind with a big, fizzing legbreak. Four balls later he completely deceived Sean Abbott. The Blues quick shouldered arms to a wrong ‘un and was clean bowled. In Fawad’s next over he lured Peter Nevill down the track and did him with flight and spin to have the Blues keeper stumped to end the game.Earlier, the Blues had put themselves in a strong position despite making some mistakes. Daniel Hughes trod on his stumps without adding to his overnight 59. Kurtis Patterson made a half-century before he was run out by Glenn Maxwell while Moises Henriques was trapped in front by Peter Siddle for 49.The Bushrangers now move seven points clear of the Blues in second spot on the table but there are still two other matches to be completed in the penultimate round.

Select IPL matches on Doordarshan after government request

Star India will allow Doordarshan to delay-telecast the 8pm IPL match on Sundays, the four knockout matches and the final, as well as the tournament opener

Nagraj Gollapudi07-Apr-2018IPL rights holder Star India has allowed India’s free-to-air national television channel, Doordarshan, to broadcast select matches on a delayed feed, at the Indian government’s request. After an informal agreement was reached on Thursday, Doordarshan will telecast the 8pm match on Sundays during the league phase of the IPL, the four knockout matches and the final, as well as the tournament opener. The games will be delayed by one hour on Doordarshan. The development is significant because Star had no obligation to allow Doordarshan any sort of IPL telecast, having bid a record $2.55 billion for the global television and digital rights between 2018 and 2022. The deal with the BCCI in September 2017 was the largest media-rights sale ever in cricket. In November 2017, Star received a request from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of the Indian government headed by Smriti Irani, a television actor who had worked for Star before becoming a politician. According to a person privy to the discussions, the I&B ministry initially asked that the live feed be shared with Doordarshan so that “poor people” could watch the IPL in India. Star declined that request immediately.Star also refused another I&B ministry request to share the feed with a delay of 15 minutes, before agreeing to share the feed for the tournament opener, four other play-off matches, and the final with a 15-minute delay. Finally, on Thursday, when Star won the rights to Indian cricket as well, the present agreement with the I&B ministry was reached.Under India’s Sports Broadcasting Signals Act, 2007, broadcasters had to share the feed of only sporting events of national importance with Doordarshan: in cricket, all limited-overs matches involving India, at home and away. The Act also states that the advertising revenue Doordarshan earns from these games should be shared with the rights holder in a 3:1 ratio. In the agreement reached this week, Star asked Doordarshan to market the matches it would broadcast on its own and split the advertisement revenue equally.”This brings #IPL2018 content to Doordarshan for the first time,” Shashi Shekar, director of Prasar Bharati, the parent organisation of Doordarshan, said on Twitter. “Thanks to HMIB @Smriti Irani and Secy@MIB_India for the initiative and support.” Irani responded saying she was “glad to be of help.”Historically, Star had argued that it shouldn’t have to share rights with Doordarshan. In the early 2000s, the I&B ministry made it mandatory for cable and direct-to-home (DTH) operators to have Doordarshan on their platforms. Star argued it was losing revenue because Doordarshan was benefitting from the shared feed under the Sports Act by beaming the same games on PayTV.In 2015, the Delhi High Court ruled in favour of Star, but the I&B ministry challenged the decision in the Supreme Court of India, which said the government could seek games of national importance for people who could not afford cable and DTH. The court said the I&B ministry had to ensure the feed could not be put on PayTV channels.Star agreed to this current deal, it is believed, because the I&B ministry is the authority for granting satellite up-linking licenses to broadcasters, and negotiations seemed a better strategy than legal action. It is understood that once it won the rights, Star applied for the up-linking license immediately, and the ministry officials processed the application quickly, but it still needed approval from Irani, who wanted Star to share the IPL feed with Doordarshan.A bigger concern for Star is whether the I&B ministry might consider including the IPL among sporting events of national importance. However, not everyone in the Indian government agreed that it should: Sports Minister Rajvardhan Singh Rathore, an Olympian, among them.”If IPL is made mandatory, which is a private league, then what about the other leagues? Would they also be made mandatory?” Rathore said at the ‘Idea Exchange’ chat organized by recently.  “Secondly, the Sports Ministry wants federations to be financially independent. Not all leagues are making millions but some of the sports federations have managed to make some profits. But if we were to make the DD telecast mandatory would it not affect their profits? Thirdly, we need to keep in mind that the athletes here are not playing for the country, they are playing for their own clubs. All these issues need to be considered before we take a decision.”Another change Irani made after taking charge at the I&B ministry was to introduce a processing fee – INR 1 lakh per day per channel – for the satellite up-linking license. Star will broadcast the IPL on 12 of its channels, so will pay a huge amount for 60 days.

Tottenham’s £15m Gem Showed Why He’s "Sickeningly Good" Vs Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur continued their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season with a rampant, 5-2 victory away to newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday afternoon, with Ange Postecoglou's side surging to second in the table following a third successive win in the top-flight.

Just a few days on from their early Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Fulham, the Lilywhites were dealt a further blow after conceding inside four minutes following Lyle Foster's early strike, albeit with a clinical comeback – including a stunning hat-trick for new skipper Heung-min Son – helping to power the visitors to a deserved three points at Turf Moor.

Who impressed for Tottenham against Burnley?

It had looked to be an uncomfortable afternoon for the north London outfit amid their early setback, although the aforementioned Son took charge to help steer his side to victory, with the South Korean sensation notably producing a delightful dinked finish over the onrushing James Trafford to draw the away side level on the 16-minute mark.

Having failed to score or register an assist in the league this season prior to the trip to Lancashire, the 31-year-old certainly made up for lost time after producing two more ruthless finishes after the break, with the decision to deploy the experienced ace in a number nine role having certainly paid off for Postecoglou.

It is fair to say that Son wasn't alone in sparking that brutal rout for the visitors, however, with summer signing James Maddison – who was dubbed a "joy to watch" by The Athletic's Tim Spiers – pulling the strings effortlessly in the centre of the park, while getting in on the act himself with a curling finish from range.

That stellar strike epitomised a performance of sheer class from the Englishman as he also registered one key pass and completed three of his four attempted dribbles, proving a real thorn in the side of Vincent Kompany's men, while defender Cristian Romero also got in on the act with a sensational finish on the stroke of half-time.

Destiny Udogie

Aside from those who got themselves on the scoresheet, one man who also proved just why he is "sickeningly good" – in the words of footballJOE's Hunter Godson – was promising full-back, Destiny Udogie, with the young Italian simply shining down the left flank.

How did Udogie perform against Burnley?

Signed from Udinese on an initial £15m deal last year, before instantly returning to the Serie A side on loan, the 20-year-old had been something of an unknown quantity to most when he arrived back at N17 over the summer, although both fans and pundits alike are now seemingly fully aware of his talents.

A player who could well get "into nearly every team in the world already" – in the words of Godson – the Verona native notably helped to tee up Maddison with an assist after winning back possession high up the pitch, showing great composure to pick out the former Leicester City man who seemingly had the freedom of Turf Moor in the centre of the park.

That was also evidence of the youngster's battling nature and determination to reclaim the ball for his side as he won eight of his nine ground duels on the day, while also making five tackles, three clearances and two interceptions as a marker of his ability to sniff out the danger.

As his assist also illustrated, the exciting left-back has that much-needed composure to boot when he himself gets on the ball, having enjoyed a standout pass accuracy rate of 93% from his 66 touches, with his match rating of 7.8, as per Sofascore, behind only that of Son, Maddison and Manor Solomon among his starting teammates.

Of course, it is still early days in Udogie's time in England and in Tottenham's season, although it will be hard for Spurs supporters to not get carried away about the quality that they have seen so far under the new regime.
