Arsenal interested in £35m English “game-changer” with same agent as Saka

Arsenal’s improvement under Mikel Arteta cannot be overstated enough. The Spaniard has taken the club from a Europa League side at best to a genuine and serious title contender in the Premier League. And whilst their defeat against Newcastle United will no doubt feel frustrating, the Gunners shouldn’t become discouraged after enjoying another solid start to a campaign.

Their improvement on the pitch has gone hand-in-hand with their resurgence away from The Emirates, whether that’s been their ability to keep hold of key players or when it comes to welcoming fresh stars such as Declan Rice. Now, Arsenal are in a position to land stars for the future, and a new target has now emerged.

Arsenal transfer news

Previously, Arsenal splashed the cash to sign Nicolas Pepe in a deal that sums up their previous transfer woes fairly well. Nowadays, however, there seems to be a plan in place, a system to follow, as Arteta not only welcomes talented players but, more importantly, players who suit his philosophy.

This is a philosophy that will remain in place until his eventual exit, too, and it is one that Jamie Bynoe-Gittens could slot straight into. According to reports in Spain, Arsenal are interested in Bynoe-Gittens and are eyeing a potential summer move for the Borussia Dortmund winger.

The Gunners are not alone in their interest though, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also eyeing moves for the Englishman, who is reportedly valued at €40m (£35m). Arsenal’s one advantage could be the fact that Bukayo Saka’s agent also represents the teenager. With that said, come next summer, the former Manchester City academy man looks likely to have a lot to think about, as he decides whether to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho by swapping Dortmund for a return to the Premier League.

“Game-changer” Bynoe-Gittens one to watch

At just 19 years of age, Bynoe-Gittens is starting to make his mark at Dortmund, appearing six times in all competitions this season and even recording one assist. Bynoe-Gittens’ stats show that there may be more to come, too.

Player Progressive Carries Successful Take-Ons Assists
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens 9 5 1

A move to the Premier League and Arsenal, in particular, could improve the Dortmund man even more. Arteta has overseen the rise of the likes of Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba at The Emirates and could offer Bynoe-Gittens the same opportunity to realise his potential. The deal may also make sense from an Arsenal point of view as Bynoe-Gittens would tick the box for homegrown players from a practical standpoint, alongside his clear talent and ongoing journey to becoming a top player.

At such a young age, the teenager has already received plenty of praise, including from current Dortmund manager Edin Terzic who said via the Bundesliga website: "He's a game-changer in the truest sense."

When next summer arrives, Arsenal may face a battle to secure the winger’s signature, but it could be a race worth winning. Bynoe-Gittens has shown more than enough potential for several sides in Europe to warrant his arrival in the near future, so it could be one to watch.

India storm to series win after Ravindra Jadeja four-for

So promising across the first three ODIs, West Indies’ batting unravelled when a share of the series was still up for grabs. Having been bowled out for 153 on a flat Brabourne deck in the fourth ODI, the visitors did even worse on a trickier pitch in Thiruvananthapuram, folding for 104 after choosing to bat first.Virat Kohli, India’s captain, was happy to chase at a ground where he felt dew would be a “massive factor” in the second innings, under lights. But the match didn’t even last as far as the scheduled 45-minute interval.West Indies were bowled out in 31.5 overs, and India hunted down their target in a mere 14.5, as Rohit Sharma stroked an unbeaten 63 off 56 balls, adding an unbroken 99 for the second wicket with Kohli. Rohit hit four sixes – all clean hits, as they needed to be on one of the larger grounds in India – to become only the second India batsman to get past 200 sixes in ODIs.The only spell of positivity for West Indies was the new-ball spell of the pacy Oshane Thomas, who got Shikhar Dhawan to chop on for the second time in two ODI meetings, had Kohli dropped by Jason Holder at first slip after getting one to lift nastily at him, and had Rohit edging an away-seamer behind only for a no-ball call to deny him another wicket.Thereafter, it was all Rohit and Kohli who, having got past some early difficulty against the slowness of the pitch, entertained the Thiruvananthapuram crowd who might otherwise have felt shortchanged at getting to watch only 46.4 overs of the promised 100.The contest lasted only that long, thanks to West Indies’ inability to adapt to a slow pitch on which the ball held up and made driving on the up a hazardous prospect. It was swing that began their collapse. By the tenth ball of their innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, swinging it away from the left-hander, and Jasprit Bumrah, swinging it into the right-hander, had made Kieran Powell and Shai Hope pay for playing away from the body. Then came the longest partnership of the innings, of 34, between Rovman Powell – who struggled to find his feet after being promoted up the order, with West Indies sacrificing regular opener Chandrapaul Hemraj to add Oshane Thomas to their pace attack – and Marlon Samuels, who came out playing his shots at the end of a lean series with the bat.It looked pretty while it lasted, as Samuels drove Bhuvneshwar past mid-off and whipped his next ball – from virtually the same off-stumpish line – wide of mid-on. Another free-flowing drive off Khaleel Ahmed, in the next over, carried all the way over the straight boundary.Kohli responded by bringing on Ravindra Jadeja. His first over, the tenth of West Indies’ innings, was a maiden, and through that over it was clear that Samuels was itching to keep driving and that Jadeja, teasing him with his changes of pace and a length just short of driveable, was not going to allow him to. Having already inside-edged once while driving away from his body, Samuels fell in Jadeja’s second over, reaching out once again, this time only managing to pop a catch to extra-cover as the ball stopped on him. That stand broken, India kept chipping away at the wickets. Shimron Hetmyer played back to Jadeja when he should have been forward, Rovman and Fabian Allen were out hooking well-directed short balls from Khaleel and Bumrah, and Jason Holder, who had looked good while getting to 25, chipped a catch to mid-off as another ball held up off the surface. The tail survived just long enough for Jadeja, who took a five-over break after an unbroken first spell of eight overs, to return and bag two more wickets to finish with 4 for 34. It was his second four-wicket haul in eight matches since his comeback to the ODI team during the Asia Cup in September.

“Outstanding” West Brom player now returns to training at The Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion have been handed a boost after learning that one of their first-team players has returned to training, according to a fresh report that has emerged.

West Brom injury news

The Baggies haven't had the best luck when it comes to players being sidelined this season, but supporters have recently received some positive news surrounding the fitness of four of their senior squad members who have been out of action. Josh Maja, John Swift, Daryl Dike and Adam Reach have all returned to the grass during the international break as they step up their recovery and get closer to once again being competitively involved, and if the following update is to be believed, they aren’t the only ones who will soon stage their comeback.

Back in January, Martin Kelly sustained a serious knee injury and he’s been ruled out ever since having undergone surgery to rectify his problem, meaning that he’s hardly had a chance to prove what he’s capable of since putting pen to paper.

The Hawthorns right-back has only made seven senior appearances following his arrival from Crystal Palace last summer (Transfermarkt – Kelly statistics), though when he’s ready to return to action, the 33-year-old will be hoping that he can nail down a regular starting place and make a positive impression on Carlos Corberan.

Martin Kelly returns to full training

According to BirminghamLive, Kelly has returned to training and could be available for the first team in a few weeks time, with the plan being to build up his fitness by giving him game time with West Brom’s youth side.

The lesser spotted Martin Kelly was welcomed back into first-team training this week by his teammates, who have long awaited his return. Still with some weeks to go, and likely under 21s minutes, before he might be considered for a place in the match-day squad, it's a significant step forward for Kelly.”

West Bromwich Albion defender Martin Kelly.

Corberan handed boost over "outstanding" Kelly

Whilst Kelly hasn’t been able to showcase his talents since joining, West Brom will know that they still have a fantastic player on their hands, so it will be a huge boost for Corberan to finally have the defender at his disposal having been ruled out since the start of the year.

Standing at 6 foot 3, the colossus was averaging 3.4 aerial wins and 2.6 clearances per game last season in the Championship for the Baggies (WhoScored – Kelly statistics), highlighting the rock he can be at the heart of the backline, but he’s also capable of getting involved in the final third.

The Whiston-born talent has posted 12 contributions (eight assists and four goals) since the start of his career, which shows that he can use his athletic pace to burst down the flank, take on his marker and create chances for both himself and his fellow teammates in the opposition’s half.

West Brom’s “outstanding” player, as hailed by Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, even has the versatility to operate everywhere across the backline and slightly higher up on the right side of the midfield, so for all of the qualities that he brings to the squad, the sooner he returns, the better.

Celtic eyeing player with "huge potential" ahead of possible January move

Despite losing Ange Postecoglou in the summer, who has got off to a blistering start at Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic are on course for a third consecutive title in the Scottish Premiership. Their transition during the return of Brendan Rodgers has been seamless and the former Leicester City boss hasn't skipped a beat since making the move back to the place where he had so much success. He won't want to rest on his laurels, though. Instead, Rodgers will only want to kick on further at Celtic Park.

Celtic transfer news

As things stand, the Hoops are five points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers and are reportedly eyeing a move to improve their side even more during the January transfer window.

Celtic stars Matt O'Riley and Luis Palma.

Celtic's work off the pitch has been almost perfect in the last few years. They've added the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O'Riley, who have both since gone onto play crucial roles at the club. And their attention now looks set to turn towards the January transfer window, which can often make or break a club's season. From Celtic's perspective, they shouldn't need too much when it comes to reinforcements, given their place at the top of the league, but they could still add stars for the future, including Nathaniel Adjei.

According to Sky Sports, Celtic are monitoring Adjei, who has been impressing for Swedish side Hammarby. The 21-year-old is reportedly not short on suitors, however, with clubs in Belgium and Italy, as well as Celtic's Old Firm rivals Rangers, reportedly eyeing a move for the central defender in January.

Defensively, the league leaders have been excellent so far this season, conceding just seven goals in 11 games. That said, with the potential that Adjei holds, it could be a deal worth pursuing. The Allsvenskan season comes to an end this month, giving Adjei plenty of time to assess his options before making what should prove to be a crucial career decision.

Nathaniel Adjei has "huge potential"

At just 21-years-old, Adjei seemingly has the world at his feet, evidenced by reports he will have the option of clubs from across Europe, including Celtic. Under Rodgers, he could learn a great deal from the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales too, who have ensured that the Hoops' defensive record has remained impressive this season.

It's no surprise that Adjei has earned plenty of praise at his current club, including from former Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson, who told the club's official website: "Adjei has had a very good development in HTFF. He is a centre-back with huge potential who looks very exciting for the future, and we have made the decision to buy him from his Ghanaian club."

The fact that Adjei is now being linked with a move to a number of top clubs just a year after his promotion to the Swedish side's first-team shows just how rapidly he is developing as a player. The only way seems to be up for the central defender, and Celtic may need to act quickly to secure his signature.

Gabriel Jesus pays ultimate compliment to Harry Kane and warns Arsenal not to write off struggling Bayern in Champions League tie

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus has named Bayern Munich star Harry Kane as "the best finisher in the world" ahead of their Champions League showdown.

Kane in great scoring form for BayernGerman giants struggling amid poor resultsJesus hailed striker and Bundesliga sideWHAT HAPPENED?

The England international has maintained his awesome goalscoring record since joining Bayern from Tottenham last season, netting 38 times in 37 appearances despite the German team's underwhelming results throughout the campaign. The Gunners will hope to silence the 30-year-old when they meet in the quarter-finals of the Champions League this week, but Jesus is aware that they will have a hard time doing so.

"Everyone here knows the quality of Harry Kane – for me, personally, he is the best finisher in the world," he said at a press conference. "He can finish with head, left foot, right foot – the guy, since I arrived in Europe, is one of the best. It's great to play against this kind of player. Obviously we want to keep him quiet and then we try to win the game. But it is not just Harry Kane – they have players like my old friend [Leroy] Sane, [Jamal] Musiala, [Kingsley] Coman, [Thomas] Muller, [Serge] Gnabry. They have quality players there."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal appear to be in much better shape than Tuesday's visitors. The north London team are level on points at the top of the Premier League and fighting for the title, while Bayern lost 3-2 to Heidenheim to fall 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the Bundesliga title.

Despite his team's seven-game unbeaten run, Brazilian attacker Jesus dismissed talk of his team being favourites to get the win in the first leg of the tie this week. He said: "Everyone here has played in the biggest stadiums before – I think everyone is prepared. It is a big, huge game. We have to try to enjoy, be happy on the pitch and that will help a lot. I don't think we are favourites but it is the quarter-final of the Champions League – if we have arrived there, we deserve it and we have quality. But we have to respect Bayern – they are Bayern, but we are Arsenal. The same way we respect them, they respect us as well. I think there is no favourite – it will be a big game and huge battle."

Mitchell Marsh omission leaves Australia's quicks facing hefty workload

The allrounder has been sent back to Shield cricket to find some form with Tim Paine expecting him to be needed later in the series

Australia’s attempt to emulate their Ashes bowling formula from last summer, combined with question marks over a batting line-up shorn of Steven Smith and David Warner, has forced the omission of the vice-captain Mitchell Marsh from the team to face India in the first Test of the summer at a draining Adelaide Oval.Twelve months ago the selectors chose Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon as their sole four bowlers for the opening two Tests against England, before Marsh was called in as a reinforcement from the time of the third match onwards. The change in team balance was vindicated by the way the front-liners dominated Joe Root’s team, and a year on the captain Tim Paine and coach Justin Langer have sought to repeat the dose against Virat Kohli’s tourists. There are two key differences, of course: India’s batsmen are far better versed in facing spin and will be capable of attacking Lyon to bring the pacemen back more quickly, while an Australian batting line-up without Smith and Warner will need contributions from as many players as possible. This has meant a recall for Peter Handscomb in the middle order, handing Victoria three spots in the same Australian batting line-up for the first time since Bill Lawry, Ian Redpath and Keith Stackpole in the 1970-71 Ashes.”Mitch Marsh probably hasn’t been as consistent as he would like and we would like,” Paine said, confirming that Marsh would be a likely inclusion later on in the Test summer. “We know the talent Mitch has. We know most likely at some stage in this series we’ll need him, so we’re taking the opportunity at the moment to send him back to play a Shield game, get more cricket under his belt, knowing at some stage we’re probably going to need him.”We know he is good enough to be a genuine allrounder at Test level, he probably just hasn’t put it together consistently enough. There’s the opportunity for him to go back and get a Shield game under his belt before the BBL start. Going forward we’ve got full faith in him being a Test allrounder and as this series wears on and we get to places where the wicket might be a bit flatter, conditions might be a little warmer and our bowlers a bit tired then the allrounder position becomes important.”Apart from anything else, the decision to drop a recently appointed vice-captain underlined how slim Australia’s leadership resources currently are. Without Marsh in the team, captaincy duties would be most likely to fall to the limited-overs captain Aaron Finch or one of the state captains Usman Khawaja (Queensland) or Travis Head (South Australia) in the event of Paine suffering an injury.Either way, Paine acknowledged that arguably the key “chess match” of the series when Australia were in the field would involve India’s efforts to attack Lyon in order to force him to bring his fast men back earlier than intended. “I’m sure there will be opportunities at times when we can hopefully put their spinners under pressure and try and put some big overs into their fast bowlers,” Paine said. “It is going to be no different for them; they are going to see at times if they can attack Nathan and get on top of him and we’re going to have bowl our quicks a bit more than we would like so it is going to be a real chess match in that regard.”The [Adelaide] wicket over the last few years here has given enough throughout the game [to not need an allrounder]. We’ve obviously got a lot of confidence in Nathan Lyon bowling a lot of overs if we need to. And probably the fact all our three quicks go in really fresh, so we’ve got confidence in them – particularly at the start of the series. It’s probably unlikely that we’ll use the three quicks as much as we will in this game, throughout the whole series as it wears on – but this being the first Test we think they’ll do the job.”Paine was dismissive of questions over whether Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins would be capable of standing up to the workload, given their micro-managed preparation for this assignment. “They got through the Ashes last year I thought and bowled a hell of a lot of overs,” he said. “So, they are fresh and ready to go. They have had a great preparation and are ready to go. They are fine to go. They will be bowling big overs if need be, and they are totally comfortable with that.”The quicks are going to have to bowl a bit more and we have full faith that Nathan Lyon can do the job in any conditions, he’s shown that over the last few years, he bowled a mountain of overs in the UAE and our quicks are fresh so we can cover that, Travis Head bowls some handy offspinners so we have options there but we’ll be backing our bowlers.”As for the debutant Marcus Harris, Paine saw the maturing of a talented shotmaker into the sort of rounded batsman who will be able to help guide Finch and the No. 3 Khawaja through the testing early periods of each innings, before hard pitches and Kookaburra balls allow batting to become significantly less testing. “He’s been a really consistent player for Victoria for three years and thoroughly deserves the opportunity,” Paine said.”He’s always been a really talented batsman but I think in the last three years we’ve seen him mature into a top line opening batter. He’s an aggressive little player, he’ll play his shots. But he has also really improved his defence and has come a long way as a batsman. We’re really excited as we think he has the game for Test level and we can’t wait to see him get out there tomorrow.”

Seamers, Sam Harper, Mohammad Nabi guide Renegades home in low scorer

103 all out (Klinger 28, Christian 3-22) by four wickets A disciplined bowling effort followed by a middle-overs run surge helped Melbourne Renegades upset Perth Scorchers in a low-scoring affair at the Marvel Stadium. After winning the flip and electing to bowl, the home side exploited the difficult wicket better than their opponents, who were bowled out for 103 thanks to Usman Shinwari, Daniel Christian and Kane Richardson’s bowling. While Renegades’ chase began nervously – at one point slumping to 4 for 17 – both Sam Harper and Mohammad Nabi profited from uncharacteristically loose bowling from the visitors, who are otherwise known for their tight defensive prowess. They put Renegades within reach, before Christian and Will Sutherland saw them home. Swing King ShinwariOn his BBL debut, the Pakistan international shone with the new ball, setting up Renegades’ bowling with four dominant overs that will be remembered throughout the competition. Shinwari’s first twelve deliveries kept the Scorchers largely quiet and allowed his team-mates to benefit from the pressure. He exploited the wicket’s underlying moisture through consistent length bowling, and he made the most of his whippy action that effects an acute swing away from the right-hander. He claimed 2 for 17 from his four overs, and looked a threat whenever he had the ball in hand.Scorchers splutter on tricky wicketThe fifth ball of the match told a key story. Michael Klinger, the only Scorchers batsman who made a significant contribution, came forward to a ball that zipped away from his bat. The camera quickly caught the Scorchers stalwart cocking his head, offering a wry grimace in response to a wicket that offered minimal pace and maximum seam, in T20 terms. From there, it was a procession of dot ball aggregation, followed by big shots that paid a big price. The wicket appeared very tacky, and Klinger aside, nobody seemed willing to make runs. Cameron Boyce was particularly difficult to get away, bowling with great control and giving away just 13 runs in his allotted four.Mohammad Nabi slugs one down the ground•Getty Images

Scorchers’ early surge A characteristically potent start saw Scorchers surge immediately back into the contest. First, Tim Ludeman feathered a soft glide through to Whiteman from Behrendorff’s bowling, before Wildermuth chopped on from Coulter-Nile in the second over. Even at 2 for 7, it looked salvageable enough for the hosts, before disaster struck again. Both bowlers were making the ball talk, but it was the former producing the most serious hoop. Behrendorff enticed Cameron White into an expansive cover drive, before the ball zeroed back very late to pin him in front.Coulter-Nile responded with a wicket of his own the following over. Tom Cooper, who to that point had looked relatively assured at the crease, first hooked Coulter-Nile for four, momentarily allowing Renegades fans to breathe. It was short-lived, however, as the stand-in skipper then spooned an easy catch to point. That made it 4 for 17, and 103 was starting to look uncomfortably distant for the home side.Harper and Nabi take the game awayAfter nearly 24 consecutive overs of disciplined, successful length bowling from both sides, Scorchers were the first to deviate from the plan. After new batsmen Sam Harper and Mohammad Nabi dealt blows to Andrew Tye’s opening over, they fully exploited the loose offerings of both David Willey and Usman Qadir. It was Willey who first suffered, presenting rare width to Nabi, who cut via third man for four. Two balls later the Afghanistan all-rounder was back smashing him over deep cover for six.It represented a turning of the tide, and it was amplified after Usman Qadir’s first over, which was one to forget. He dished up a number of drag-downs which were dispatched with ease, first conceding three, then four, then six, among assorted singles. After such a strong start, it meant Scorchers had leaked 38 runs in the next three overs, undoing their advantage. From there, Renegades cruised, eventually reaching the total in the 16th over with 28 balls to spare. Harper and Nabi’s partnership broke the arm-wrestle, before Christian and Sutherland guided the Renegades to a win.

Ten Hag fires back at mediaCalls reaction to FA Cup win 'embarrassing'Hails back-to-back finals as 'magnificent'WHAT HAPPENED?

United were subjected to scathing criticism from pundits and journalists after their penalty shootout win against Championship side Coventry City, having thrown away a 3-0 lead before being given a reprieve in extra-time when Victor Torp's 121st-minute goal was disallowed for a fractional offside.

"No. Absolutely not. You [the media] made enough and one the question: "is it embarrassing? No, the reaction from you was embarrassing. It is the comments," Ten Hag told a press conference on Tuesday. "Top football is about results, we made it to a final and we deserved it not only by this game but also the other games. We lost control for 20 mins, we also had bad luck, 3-2, 3-3. We were very lucky in the end, clear. Penalties was very good and we made it to the final, it is a huge achievement."

The Red Devils have reached three out of four domestic cup finals under Ten Hag, who also made it to three KNVB Cup finals while he was in charge of Ajax. The manager added: "Twice, in two years is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup final in four years. The comments are a disgrace."
