Bavuma welcomes challenge of tough moments on World Cup qualification path

South Africa are relishing the opportunity to practice playing under pressure as they build towards the 2023 ODI World Cup. They currently lie in last place on the Super League points table, but have played the joint-fewest matches, and have another 21 fixtures (seven series of three matches each) to work their way up. And as a team with a reputation for buckling in big moments, South Africa don’t mind getting there the hard way.”It gives us a good opportunity to get our ducks in a row. If it means that we have to play games under pressure or with a lot of consequence then so be it. It’s not a bad thing to have to go through that type of process,” Temba Bavuma, South Africa’s captain said. “It will go a long way in strengthening our mental resolve. We’ll know, going to the World Cup, that we’ve had to overcome a lot of tough moments.”Related

So far, South Africa have lost the only series they’ve played in the World Cup Super League – 1-2 to Pakistan in March – but they had a second-string XI for the decider after several first-choice players had to leave for the IPL. Now, they have all their frontline players available and can start working on the combinations they want to use for the tournament. “Our first priority is to start racking up those points. In saying that, we want to use this opportunity to really get to terms with how we want to go about playing our ODI cricket,” Bavuma said. “The time is still there for us to try out different options and give guys the opportunities to show what they can do with the overall goal of winning series and qualifying for the World Cup.”One position that will come into sharp focus is that of the allrounder, especially as South Africa’s search for one in the post-Jacques Kallis era has been long. In West Indies, South Africa opted for a spin-bowling allrounder in George Linde and did not use a seam-bowling allrounder for the four T20Is before bringing in Wiaan Mulder for the finale. With Dwaine Pretorius not on this tour after contracting Covid-19, Mulder may get more opportunities, especially as conditions in Ireland are expected to be more friendly to seam than spin, but Bavuma suggested the focus on specialists remains. “These conditions allow for us to play an extra allrounder which will give us an extra cushion in batting, but we still want to create a situation where batters need to take ownership of what they need to do,” he said. However, South Africa are also in need of another finisher to accompany David Miller and could turn to Andile Phehlukwayo, who did not feature in the Caribbean. “I see Andile playing a big part within the Proteas. He is an integral member of our squad. He is one of the few guys with a considerable amount of games and experience behind him and a guy like that cannot be thrown to the wayside,” Bavuma said.Phehlukwayo was underused against Pakistan earlier in the year and stand-in skipper Heinrich Klaasen hinted he was low on confidence, but Bavuma has seen a different side to Phehlukwayo on this trip and expects him to be back to his best. “Confidence is such a volatile thing for all of us. There’s days when you wake up you feel on top of the world and there’s days you feel like you don’t know which end of the bat to hold. I don’t think that’s something unique to Andile,” Bavuma said. “The best thing we can do as players is to keep supporting him and trying to get his mind as clear as possible. He is in a good state. He understands a lot more what his role is in the team.”Similarly, South Africa on the whole want to ensure they maintain a level of hunger for success among the group so they don’t take an opposition like Ireland for granted on the road to the World Cup. “There is a danger of us expecting things to happen but we’ve come here to different conditions to what we are used to at home and different conditions to what we experience in West Indies. The challenge for us is to find a way to dominate and master conditions here,” Bavuma said, “If we heavily invest our energy and bring about a certain intensity to that, we will get the results we want.”

Umpire Sue Redfern to become first woman to officiate in an England men's home international

Redfern appointed as fourth umpire for opening T20I between England and Sri Lanka in Cardiff

Valkerie Baynes22-Jun-2021Sue Redfern will become the first woman to officiate in an England men’s home international match after being appointed as fourth umpire for Wednesday’s first T20I against Sri Lanka in Cardiff.Alex Wharf had been due to fill the role, but Redfern was placed on standby in the event that the reserve day was activated in the World Test Championship final in Southampton. With persistent bad weather forcing the game into a sixth day, Redfern will now step in for the first of three T20Is between England and Sri Lanka.”It’s going to be a great experience,” Redfern told ESPNcricinfo. “I’m feeling pretty privileged. It’s unexpected but at the same time, it’s a great opportunity to showcase that females can officiate in a variety of environments.”Redfern is a regular on-field umpire on the women’s international circuit and stood in last week’s Test between England and India in Bristol.A former England player, Redfern was an on-field umpire in a World Cricket League Division Five match between Oman and Nigeria in 2016. “What the players are looking for is, they’re really not bothered about whether I’m male or female, they just want me to do my job,” Redfern said. “That’s the most important thing, how I manage that game and how I umpire in that game.”I’ve had a good day if I’m not seen really and if I’m not spoken about, so just managing that game to ensure that it comes to a positive conclusion.”Redfern’s appointment comes after Australian Claire Polosak became the first woman to officiate in a men’s Test when she was the fourth umpire for the third Test between Australia and India at the SCG in January. And Redfern said that she supports women officiating in men’s matches becoming a normal occurrence.

“I’d like to see any official, whatever their aspirations are, that they can fulfil those aspirations if they’re good enough,” she said. “What we’re looking for is people with the right skills officiating in the right games.”It’s important to show people that you can be an official, whether it be male or female, in an environment you want to officiate in. There are lots of female officials in England and across the world who are umpiring in male environments – and why not?”The more we showcase females in different roles across cricket, the more it becomes normal, and that’s important because it grows our game and it shows that you can do anything in this game.”Last month, Anna Harris and Yvonne Dolphin-Cooper stood together as on-field umpires in men’s matches in the England Premier League and the South Wales Premier League, which were believed to be the first instances of two women officiating in ECB Premier League matches.Umpire Sue Redfern runs onto the field in a Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match•Getty ImagesRedfern, who also routinely stands in domestic women’s matches, including the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, admitted she feels nervous before umpiring in any match, so she does not expect Wednesday’s fixture – which kicks off back-to-back white-ball series between England and Sri Lanka’s men’s teams – to be any different.”As a player I was exactly the same, I do get nerves, and I continue to do that every time I go in,” she said. “The key thing for me is to get those nerves in order. I think it’s a good thing because it means I care, I want to do a good job. As long as I can control those nerves, that’s not a problem. It reminds me how lucky I am to be in the position I’m in.”Redfern’s desire to “do a good job” goes hand-in-hand with the fact that she cares deeply about the sport she played for more than 25 years.”As an ex-player there’s nothing as great as playing the game,” she said. “It’s a beautiful game, I’m passionate about the game. For me, umpiring is, I’ve been given a second opportunity to do something that I really love in this beautiful game.”I pinch myself every time I wake up and know I’m going to be umpiring. I absolutely love it.”

Warwickshire have completed the signing of the India batsman Hanuma Vihari as their overseas player, after Pieter Malan, their original choice, ran into difficulties obtaining a visa.Vihari, who has played 12 Tests, including three on India’s victorious tour of Australia earlier this year, does not have an IPL deal and is expected to be available for at least three LV= Insurance County Championship games. He made his Test debut against England on their 2018 tour, while his highest score of 111 – his solitary Test century to date – came against West Indies in 2019. In his first-class career, Vihari has made 7,094 runs at 56.75 in 90 games, while he is also a part-time offspinner with 27 wickets to his name. The BCCI is understood to have agreed the deal in the hope that his experience in the county game will prove beneficial ahead of the World Test Championship final, which is scheduled to be played in Southampton in June, and India’s five-Test tour of England that follows.”Hanuma will arrive in the UK this afternoon,” Warwickshire’s Director of Cricket, Paul Farbrace, said. “We hope that this gives time for him to do his six days quarantine and to feature in next week’s game versus Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, subject to receiving negative COVID tests.”He’s a high-quality batsman, and an effective off spinner, who has been part of two India Test series victories in Australia. But he also comes to Warwickshire with an outstanding record in the first-class game and our young batsman are going to learn a huge amount from playing and training with someone of Hanuma’s calibre.Related

“We’re also very grateful to Hanuma for stepping in at such short notice to cover Pieter Malan whilst we await confirmation of visa and his safe entry to the UK from South Africa.”Warwickshire had originally signed Malan, the South Africa top-order player, for the entire season. But with South Africa currently categorised as a “red list” country by the UK government, he has been unable to obtain a visa at this stage. Even if he does, he will be obliged to spend time in quarantine before becoming available, meaning it is unlikely he will play before May. With that in mind, there seems every chance Vihari’s stay could be extended.”I’m looking forward to this opportunity and to play for a big club like Warwickshire is really exciting,” Vihari said.Other India players such as Cheteshwar Pujara, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, M Vijay and Axar Patel have all had spells in the county game in recent times, while Virat Kohli signed for Surrey in 2018 but was obliged to pull out due to injury. Shreyas Iyer has also signed to play for Lancashire in the 50-over competition, although his fitness is uncertain after requiring shoulder surgery.

Imagine him & Summerville: West Ham ‘close’ in on exciting new signing

With the Premier League opening weekend less than a month away, West Ham have begun to step up their pursuit of multiple signings who could bolster Julen Lopetegui's side.

The Hammers finished ninth in the 2023/24 campaign, and Lopetegui will be tasked with the challenge of retaining a top-half spot and trying to push back into a European place, having competed in European competition for the past three seasons.

One strong link that has emerged, is Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville, whilst other signings have already been made, with Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme joining the club for significant fees.

West Ham transfer news

According to reports from James Nursey, Jhon Duran is expected to push for a move from Aston Villa to West Ham this week. The Hammers have had three bids rejected, but it is reported they are 'getting closer', as Villa continue to ask for £40m.

Jhon Duran scores for Aston Villa

Chelsea and Newcastle are also interested, according to the reports, but Duran wants to play for Lopetegui, who can offer him first-team football, and is a fellow Spanish speaker.

Duran made 37 appearances for Aston Villa last season, scoring eight goals in all competitions, and totaling 1,103 minutes. Nearly half of those minutes came in the UEFA Conference League campaign.

How Duran & Summerville could partner each other

Summerville is coming off the back of a Championship Player of the Year campaign, making 49 appearances, scoring 21 goals, and providing ten assists in all competitions.

Of course, from his numbers, you can see Summerville would add goals to the West Ham attack. He is a left-winger who loves to cut inside on his right foot, and has often made that far post curler one of his trademarks this season for Leeds.

But it's actually the creative output and opportunities he could bring to this West Ham side, adding even more pace in transition alongside Kudus and Bowen, with an ability to carry the ball forwards from inside his own half, and drive attacks, averaging 5.04 progressive carries per 90.

Summerville averages 6.10 shot-creating actions per 90, and 2.88 key passes per 90, showing his creative side and ability to create chances for not only himself but for others too.

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen

This is where Duran comes in, who has all the attributes of a top-level goalscorer. The 20-year-old averages 3,79 shots per 90, 1.33 of those shots on target per 90, also having a conversion rate of 0.71 goals per shot on target, and ranking in the top 1% of strikers in Europe for Goals-xG, with a +0.57.

Duran has a lethal left foot and is not afraid to have a go, being a high-volume shooter and trusting his ability/instinct in front of goal. His shooting motion is fast, but his technique is excellent, often giving him that extra half a second to compose himself and pick his spot, due to his trust in his finishing abilities.

Jhon Duran for Aston Villa

If Summerville was to join West Ham, and continue to deliver in the creative department with 6.1 or even close to those numbers for shot-creating actions, paired with the signing of Duran, who wants to take those shots, it could be a recipe for goals galore, and an explosive season for the Colombian talisman.

Colin Munro will not be available for the Islamabad United in the 2021 edition of the PSL, starting later this month, because of difficulties with finding quarantine space for his return to New Zealand after the competition.Munro was scheduled to head straight to Pakistan after the conclusion of the BBL, where he is part of the Perth Scorchers line-up, but the quarantine system put in place by the New Zealand government requires places to booked in advance and, having delayed in applying, the earliest Munro would have been able to find a slot after the PSL was in mid-May.”I’m very disappointed to be missing out because Islamabad were really good to me,” Munro said. “They retained me knowing I was going to go there straight after the Big Bash but I just couldn’t get any quarantine booked in time.”The PSL finishes on the 23rd [22nd] of March and I could only get back into the country in the middle of May then another two weeks on top of that. It’s tough, but the world the way it is maybe that’s a silver lining – spend some more time at home with the family and get ready for whatever is next.”Munro scored 248 runs at 35.42 and a strike rate of 147.61 in the previous edition of the PSL and would have headed to this event in strong form having scored 441 runs for the Scorchers, who finished second on the eight-team table after the league stage and, after losing to the Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier, will take on the Brisbane Heat in the Challenger on Thursday for a place in the final against the Sixers.

Cantwell 2.0: Clement ready to reignite Rangers move for EFL star

Glasgow Rangers continue to ramp up their pre-season preparations by playing a glamour friendly at Murrayfield Stadium this weekend against Manchester United.

With the opening Premiership fixture taking place in just two weeks, Philippe Clement will be hoping to bring at least another two or three players to Ibrox, thus bolstering his squad.

If he doesn’t, then the starting XI against Hearts could look fairly similar to the one that ended the 2023/24 campaign, featuring the likes of Cyriel Dessers and Scott Wright in some capacity at Tynecastle.

Hopefully this isn’t the case, but with every passing day of no new announcements, it could turn into a reality when the league season begins.

Despite numerous links in recent weeks, transfer activity has been laboured. Could this change in the coming days? As a fresh update has been provided.

Rangers showing interest in former Championship starlet

At the start of the year, Football Insider claimed that the Light Blues were interested in signing then Stoke City centre-forward Tyrese Campbell this summer.

He had just six months left on his deal with the Championship side and Clement was keen on a deal to bring the Englishman north of the border once the season concluded.

Campbell’s deal with Stoke expired, and he is now a free agent, which could give the Belgian coach a boost, especially as the Daily Mail state Rangers are just one of the clubs showing interest in the player.

A raft of second-tier sides, including QPR, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United are all keen on signing Campbell, but the chance to win trophies and play in European football should be plenty of incentive for the striker as he seeks his next move.

It won't be the first time the club have signed a player who shone in the Championship, as Todd Cantwell had made his breakthrough at Norwich City in the second tier.

Could the Englishman emerge as Cantwell 2.0 for the Light Blues should he join the club this summer?

Todd Cantwell’s Rangers career in numbers

The Englishman was one of Norwich’s prized assets just a few years ago after shining in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season, scoring six goals in the top flight.

In the summer of 2021, the Canaries valued him at £40m amid interest from Aston Villa as they sought a replacement for Jack Grealish.

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

In January 2023, however, his career appeared to be at a crossroads, falling out of favour at his boyhood club. Michael Beale rescued the midfielder from his purgatory and the move to Ibrox looked like a smart piece of business.

Indeed, his first six months in Glasgow saw Cantwell score six goals while grabbing five assists, not bad for someone who cost just £1.5m.

Last season saw the former Norwich starlet register 15 goal contributions – eight goals and seven assists – despite missing several games due to injury issues.

He ranked fourth in the squad for goals and assists (12) in the Premiership throughout 2023/24, along with ranking third for big chances created (seven), fourth for key passes per game (1.7) and fifth for successful dribbles per game (1.2), showing how impressive he was in the final third.

Todd Cantwell

Campbell may play in a more advanced position than Cantwell, but there is no doubt Clement can get him firing should he make the move to Ibrox this summer.

Tyrese Campbell’s season in numbers

Campbell missed six matches due to a hip injury last season, while falling out of favour upon his return to full fitness, making just 24 appearances for Stoke.

This meant he managed to score just four goals and grab two assists, hardly numbers which demonstrate his potential.

Cantwell failed to score or assist in the six months prior to his move to Rangers. Perhaps Campbell – who has been described as "always a handful" by former boss Michael O'Neill – could come to life next term in new surroundings.

The 6 foot striker still managed to average 2.1 shots per game while succeeding with 0.5 dribbles per game – a success rate of 55% – despite averaging only 52 minutes each game.

Again, not earth-shattering, but with more opportunities in the starting XI, these could have improved further, indicating there is plenty of potential there.

What Tyrese Campbell could offer Rangers

Despite a poor 2023/24 campaign, Campbell demonstrated his vast talents the season prior. Indeed, among his Stoke teammates, the striker ranked first for goals and assists (14), along with ranking first for shots per game (2), third for big chances created (six) and second for successful dribbles per game (0.8), showing how impressive he can be in the opposition third when at full fitness.

Football writer Ollie Walton dubbed the player as a “great talent” earlier this year, but it is time for him to add some consistency to his game, which could come with a move north of the border.

His statistics when compared to his positional peers over the previous 365 days are certainly impressive and prove that he is more than just an out-and-out striker.

Not only does he rank in the top 5% for progressive carries per 90 (2.79), but Campbell even ranks in the top 9% for total shots per 90 (3.69) and in the top 13% for both progressive passes (2.64) and touches in the attacking penalty area (6.03) per 90.

These figures are certainly encouraging and if interest in the centre-forward is concrete, then it could be a solid enough signing which adds some depth to Clement’s attacking department.

The reality is, Rangers will have to sell a few players in order to raise funds for future arrivals. While free transfers might not be all that glamorous, they are key to beefing out the squad, which is exactly what Campbell will do.

Hopefully, he can remain fit and healthy should he join the Gers in the coming weeks, as his skillset could be perfectly suited to Scottish football, making him a decent option to call upon.

The Light Blues are reportedly keen on a deal to sign the talented teenage maestro.

Aston Villa lodge enquiry over £35m Digne upgrade

Aston Villa have yet to make a signing this summer, yet this could all change in the next few weeks if Unai Emery has his wish.

The club have been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher recently in a bid to improve their midfield options, especially if Douglas Luiz departs during the transfer window, as the likes of Arsenal and Juventus are keen on the player.

Could there be more players who will be sold this summer as Emery looks to comply with the financial fair play regulations?

Aston Villa transfer news

According to journalist Matt Law of the Telegraph, Villa have granted Chelsea permission to speak to striker Jhon Duran ahead of a potential move away from the Midlands this summer.

The Blues have been admirers of the Colombian youngster since January and the money raised from a sale could give Emery licence to perhaps move for a few transfer targets, including Gallagher.

It isn’t only the English midfielder that the Spaniard is keen on luring from Chelsea, however, as the Telegraph reports that left-back Ian Maatsen is also high on Emery’s wish list, with Villa having enquired about the promising talent.

The defender has a release clause of £35m and Borussia Dortmund – where Maatsen spent the second half of last season on loan – are not willing to meet this in order to make the move permanent.

This could allow the Midlands side to make their move, perhaps using Duran as part of the deal to bring the Dutchman to Villa Park ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Ian Maatsen for Dortmund.

Maatsen is in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024 and solid performances on the continental stage could perhaps see more admirers come in for the defender. Therefore, Emery will need to act swiftly.

Could this see Lucas Digne replaced as the first choice left-back next season? As it is clear Maatsen is an upgrade on the Frenchman.

How Ian Maatsen compares to Lucas Digne

The French defender made a total of 46 appearances across all competitions last term, scoring twice and grabbing six assists in the process.

He will be 31 when the new season begins, however, ensuring he is not exactly a long-term solution at left-back. Among his teammates last term, Digne ranked seventh for assists (three) in the Premier League along with ranking eighth for big chances created (five), sixth for key passes per game (1.2) and 17th for successful dribbles per game (0.3), hardly the most earth-shattering statistics, and it is clear Villa need improvement on the left side of the defence.

During his spell in Germany at Dortmund, Maatsen ranked sixth in the whole squad for assists (two) in the Bundesliga, while also ranking tenth for big chances created (three), 13th for key passes per game (0.5) and ninth for successful dribbles per game (0.8).

Although Digne comes out on top in a few of these metrics, Maatsen played only 16 games in the Bundesliga, compared to the 33 Premier League games the Frenchman played, which suggests that Maatsen’s stats may have been a lot more impressive had he spent the full season in Germany.

There is no doubt that the "special" Dutchman – as described by journalist Tom Overend – has a wonderful future ahead of him, and he could secure regular game time in the top flight by making a move to Villa this summer.

Digne has been solid during his spell in the Midlands, but perhaps this is the perfect chance for Emery to move him in the next few weeks.

Ian Maatsen’s season in numbers

Maatsen ranked fairly highly across a range of metrics among his Dortmund teammates, and he also shone when compared to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues.

Indeed, he ranks in the top 9% for non-penalty goals (0.13) per 90 while ranking in the top 13% for progressive passes (5.35) per 90 and in the top 21% for progressive carries (2.74) per 90, demonstrating his attacking abilities, bursting down the left flank on a regular basis.

Defensively, Maatsen ranks in the top 20% for clearances (2.87), blocks (1.63) and interceptions (1.2) per 90 when compared to his peers across the previous 365 days, which indicates that he isn’t only solid going forward, but is able to defend well.

In the Bundesliga, the defender won 3.4 total duels per game – a success rate of 47% – while making 1.9 tackles and recovering 4.9 balls per game, yet more evidence of how important he could be to Emery should he join Villa next season.

Why Ian Maatsen could be great for Conor Gallagher

The duo featured together for the Blues during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign and they could repeat their partnership should both players join Villa this summer.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

Both players love to make bursting runs into the final third and with Gallagher typically playing at the heart of the midfield, they could link up well when Villa have the ball and are on the ascendency during matches.

Maatsen’s loan spell at Burnley under Vincent Kompany laid the groundwork for what could be a sublime career at the very top, and the Belgian was quick to praise the Dutchman, saying:

“He's part of such a very strong list of players who have done really well for us this season.

“The ingredients are always the same. He's got to be coachable in a sense that when he's not doing well, we've got to be able to tell him and eventually learn from his mistakes. He's got to be willing to work hard, he does that terrifically, and get better.

"He's just turning into something that we expected him to be able to become. He's a very, very versatile full-back with lots of energy and great potential."

High praise indeed and this should be even more evidence as to why Emery must splash the cash to bring the youngster to Villa Park ahead of next season, especially as he can potentially be an upgrade to Digne on the left side of the defence.

Nottingham Forest must finally sell flop who earns more than Elanga

Nottingham Forest have a huge summer ahead of them to avoid any further breach of the Premier League’s PSR rules whilst improving their squad to maintain their top-flight status.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side endured a tricky second half of the 2023/24 campaign, especially considering a four-point deduction which plunged them into fresh relegation woes.

With the summer transfer window now open, the club will undoubtedly need to bolster their ranks if they are to build on the end of the season which saw Nuno’s side win two of their last three matches.

However, given their financial troubles, they may have to sell multiple players to cut the wage bill and give themselves a huge chance of avoiding a second PSR punishment in as many seasons.

Leicester City have become the latest club charged with an alleged PSR breach, but what could happen next?

One player in particular must be sold, especially considering his lack of impact since his move to the East Midlands last summer.

Odysseas Vlachodimos’ stats at Forest in 2023/24

After arriving in Nottingham following a £7.7m move from Portuguese side Benfica, goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos had ambitions of becoming the club's number one despite the addition of Matt Turner just a couple of weeks prior.

The 30-year-old, who is Greece's number one, had to bide his time before making his debut for the club, failing to make a single appearance until the 2-0 win over Aston Villa in November.

His clean sheet against Unai Emery's side is his only during his time in the Premier League, with his game time decreasing massively since the turn of the year.

Vlachodimos has only featured twice under Nuno, with both starts coming in the FA Cup against Blackpool. Insteaad, January addition Matz Sels started every Premier League match after his move to the City Ground.

The former Benfica shot-stopper has since become the third choice behind Sels and Turner, failing to appear in a single matchday squad since the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal in January.

A summer move must be on the cards for the 30-year-old, with the club needing to shift his hefty wages to avoid another punishment from the Premier League for breaking their PSR rules.

How much Odysseas Vlachodimos earns at Forest

A recent report from Football Insider claims that the Reds are willing to part ways with the shot-stopper this summer, hardly a surprise given his hefty wages at the City Ground.

The goalkeeper signed a four-year deal upon his move to the East Midlands, on a reported £45k-per-week, as per Capology – a huge figure given his lack of impact on Trentside.

His weekly wage of £45k-per-week sees the Greece international take home £2.3m a season, with the club needing to cut such a figure off the bill this summer.

Vlachodimos’ subsequent wage sees him earn nearly two times more than attacker Anthony Elanga, who only earns a reported £25k-per-week, despite his stellar first campaign at the City Ground which saw him register 14 goal contributions.

Whilst at the time it was seen as a brilliant piece of business signing a player of his calibre, it has, unfortunately for both parties, been a complete disaster.

Given his experience in Portugal and internationally, he certainly won’t be short of interest, with the Reds needing to cash in as soon as possible to avoid missing the June 30th PSR deadline.
