West Ham United have their sights set on Joao Palhinha and are now preparing to make an initial offer for the player, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Are West Ham United signing Joao Palhinha?
The Portugal international, who currently stars for Fulham, had an excellent first campaign in the Premier League in 2022/23. The Cottagers surprised many by not battling near the relegation zone after their promotion from the Championship and instead bursting into the top ten in the top flight. Palhinha had a key role to play in that success, as he featured on 35 occasions for the club in the league and even bagged three goals along the way.
Not only did he produce a joint-best individual year in terms of his goal haul but he also had plenty to contribute in defence too. When you compare Palhinha to others in his position amongst the Men's 'Top Five' big leagues in Europe, he is one of the most eye-catching prospects out there at the moment. With a superb rate of 4.26 tackles per 90, it means that he sits in the top one percent in that area for midfielders. With 2.06 aerials won too, he also sits in the top eight per cent for that category.
The 27-year-old then has certainly caught the eye of other clubs and it's the Irons who are the most heavily linked. According to reliable journalist Romano, an initial opening bid be made soon. He states that the Hammers are lining up an offer and that he is seen as a good replacement for Declan Rice, who appears to be heading out of the exit door.
Fulham's Joao Palhinha
Romano said: "West Ham are preparing their first approach for João Palhinha. Not an easy deal with Fulham but he's top of the list for West Ham to replace Declan Rice. Edson Alvarez remains in list but Borussia Dortmund are pushing to agree personal terms after proposal sent."
What is Joao Palhinha's transfer value?
There is no potential fee or asking price mentioned in terms of a bid and although CIES Football Observatory suggest that his value could be about 20 million Euros (or £17m), one would expect that to be much higher in reality considering the Cottagers paid £20m for the player last summer and he's only gotten better since.
It could well be worth splashing out big though when you consider how well he has performed. He's been hailed for his form in the Premier League for example, with football journalist Josh Bunting calling the midfielder "outstanding" and adding that he is "top class" in a variety of different areas. David Moyes then would no doubt love to add such a fantastic player to his side and if he can get a deal done, the worries over a Rice departure might ease for the Hammers.

Manchester United could be set for a major boost as one of their transfer targets looks like he wants a move to Old Trafford this summer in order to win trophies…
What’s the latest on Harry Kane to Manchester United?
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham striker Harry Kane appears to want a move to the Red Devils so he can start competing for trophies.
Journalist Graeme Bailey tweeted a few weeks ago that Kane is the “preferred option” when it comes to Erik ten Hag’s search for a new striker, however, it remains to be seen whether Spurs want to do business this summer.
The Englishman could cost a minimum of £100m if any potential transfer was to take place – and if any team could afford this fee, it’s United.
Could Harry Kane sign for Manchester United this summer?
Nothing can be ruled out, especially with Spurs’ 15-year trophy drought looking like it could continue judging by their performances last season, and with Kane fast approaching 30, he will surely be looking to add some silverware in order to complement his qualities as a player.
Ten Hag desperately needs a world-class forward that can take his side to the next level, with United scoring just 58 Premier League goals – only Aston Villa scored fewer out of the teams in the top half of the table last term. Anthony Martial netted just six times in the league (nine in all competitions) as United had to rely on Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes to score the majority of their goals, grabbing 30 and 14 respectively, and it’s clear they need an upgrade on the Frenchman.
Kane, lauded as “incredible” by Spurs coach Ryan Mason, is among one of the finest forwards on the continent, ranking in the top 10% across Europe’s top five leagues for goals, shot-creating actions and progressive passes over the past year, suggesting that not only does he pose a significant threat in front of goal, but he is willing to move the ball into key attacking areas as often as possible.
Compare this to Martial, who ranks in the top 23% for goals, top 37% for shot-creating actions and top 13% for progressive passes across Europe’s top five leagues over the same period, Kane would surely be a major upgrade with regard to these metrics.
Tottenham Hotspur'sHarryKanecelebrates scoring their first goal
Indeed, in their respective teams, the Englishman ranked as Spurs’ best player for overall rating, goals and assists and shots on target per game (as per Sofascore), while the United striker could only rank as the 17th-best player in the Red Devils squad, as well as placing fifth for goals & assists and fourth for shots on target per game, proving that Kane is vital for his side, whereas Martial isn’t quite as effective.
Signing Kane should be a no-brainer for Ten Hag this summer given his quality, and if they wish to push Manchester City and Arsenal properly next term, luring one of the most devastating strikers of his generation to Old Trafford would give them a wonderful chance of challenging for the title.
Before Newcastle United took to the pitch against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night, supporters knew that ceding ground in the Premier League for a third successive match could prove detrimental to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Trepidation was in short supply from the bellowing St. James' Park home faithful, supporters turned from doubters to believers in their swathes after the exploits of the past 18 months, having cast aside the cynicism that in football is so often interlinked in negative results on the pitch.
Despite the recent defeat against Arsenal, and despite the away draw to imperilled Leeds United, the Magpies knew that victory would return and against high-flying Albion Eddie Howe's outfit produced a scintillating display of control, composure and creativity, emerging 4-1 victors and illustrating their Champions League credentials with a uniform display of steely conviction.
There were laudable performances from all angles, but it was Miguel Almiron, who didn't get on the score sheet himself, who dazzled with a dynamic performance for the ages on the right flank.
How did Miguel Almiron perform vs Brighton?
The high-octane Seagulls simply couldn't keep up for large portions of the affair, with Howe lauding his squad as "relentless" after a win which now leaves his side requiring just three more points to confirm top four.
And while Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn all etched their names onto the score sheet, it was the Paraguayan Almiron who truly stole the show, with podcaster Alex Hurst stating it was "one of the great non-goal scoring performances".
Wilson in particular caught the eye with his late surging run to make it 3-1, latching onto Almiron's through ball and clinching his 18th Premier League goal of the season, but Almiron was indeed the orchestrator.
As per Sofascore, the 29-year-old produced an impressive match rating of 7.6 and earned a late assist after playing Wilson through on goal in the closing stage of the match, but it was the expansive scope of his showing that cemented his "excellent" night on Tyneside, as he was praised by Chris Waugh.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe withMiguelAlmiron
Making four key passes and completing 89% of his total passes, Almiron's ball-playing aptitude was on full show, while his tenacity was also evident after making two tackles and interceptions apiece, winning nine of his 19 ground duels and picking up four fouls; he also succeeded with three of his five dribbles and forced a stunning save from Brighton stop-stopper Jason Steele.
Hailed for “one of the finest” displays out of possession by one analyst, the £42k-per-week star reminded English football of his prowess on Thursday night, and while he couldn't add to his 11 divisional goals this term, he has seemingly returned to top form at the optimum moment, steering his club toward Champions League nights.

While there remains just over a month left of the current campaign, attention among Manchester United supporters will already be turning toward the summer transfer window, amid the hope that the Red Devils can make a handful of marquee additions ahead of next season.
As Manchester Evening News reported earlier this year, manager Erik ten Hag is said to be prioritising the signing of a new centre-forward this summer, although the Dutchman is also said to be 'pushing' to land a midfield acquisition to further strengthen that department.
Despite securing the experienced duo of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro just under a year ago, the same publication also suggested back in January that a 'younger midfielder' could be on the agenda this time around, with the Old Trafford outfit keen to look to the future.
With that in mind, the Independent have only recently claimed that the top-four hopefuls are among those interested in signing Southampton's teen sensation, Romeo Lavia, with Ten Hag said to view the 19-year-old as a 'successor' to the aforementioned Casemiro.
The young Belgian was only snapped up by the relegation-threatened Saints from Manchester City on a £14m deal back in July, although the recent suggestion has been that he could now command around £50m, amid rival interest from Chelsea.
Would Lavia be a good signing for Man United?
The addition of the promising "monster" – as hailed by journalist Benjy Nurick – would represent something of a coup for those at the Theatre of Dreams, with the Brussels-born ace having proven himself a player of "so much potential", according to club legend Paul Scholes.
While part of a side that currently looks set for the drop, Lavia has been a real shining light at the base of the midfield, showcasing his defensive, ball-winning prowess after averaging two tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game from 24 league games this season.
A talent who is "big and strong and likes to defend" – according to Scholes – the former Etihad youth star could represent a player who United can build around for years to come, with the 5 foot 11 colossus a true long-term option for Ten Hag.
Southampton's Romeo Lavia
The signing of the exciting teenager from St Mary's could be a repeat of the Red Devils' transfer masterclass involving Luke Shaw, with the Englishman having been prised from the south coast side at the age of just 18 back in 2014 on a £30m deal.
Despite the left-back's early struggles in Manchester – having notably sustained a double leg fracture in September 2015 and been routinely criticised by former boss Jose Mourinho – the 27-year-old has now blossomed into a key figure in the present day, having been described as a "leader" and a "great player" by his manager.
The £150k-per-week man has now racked up 253 games in all competitions at the club since arriving almost nine years ago, with the experienced ace set to extend his stay even further having only recently signed a new long-term deal.
On the evidence of Shaw's current form under Ten Hag – having even been 'faultless' in a centre-back berth last time out, as per MEN's Samuel Luckhurst – the defender's signing does appear a notable success, with the hope being that young Lavia can follow in his footsteps.
Newcastle United will be seeking to continue their fine form today, but a daunting trip to a similarly high-flying Aston Villa stands between them and edging closer to a top-four finish.
This clash has somehow become one of the Premier League's most hotly contested when taking a view at the form table, as these sides occupy the second and fourth spots respectively.
Therefore, it will be all about who wants it more, who shows up on the day, and what tactical tweaks each boss employs to try and give their side the edge.
Eddie Howe has triumphantly led the Magpies from almost certain relegation last season to third place as of this game week, but Unai Emery has overseen a similar turnaround to take his side to sixth. The only issue that remains for the visitors is that, due to poor fortune and likely their relentless work ethic, some of their top players have fallen foul of injury.
The club's top scorer for the season Miguel Almiron remains sidelined, whilst Allan Saint-Maximin is also unlikely to feature due to a hamstring injury. Two key absentees out wide leave them very light on the ground in such a role, and could perhaps provoke the former Bournemouth boss into a formation shift.
This would not only allow him to get his two most in-form attackers starting in the same side, but match up with Emery's outfit, who also went for four across the midfield last time out.
What will Newcastle United's starting lineup be vs Aston Villa?
We expect Howe to make just two changes from the side that snatched a 2-1 victory over Brentford last time out, opting for a 4-4-2 shape rather than their usual 4-3-3.
The back four will almost certainly remain unchanged given their familiarity and impressive form, with Nick Pope sitting behind Sven Botman and Fabian Schar. Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn will retain the width in the defence.
Across the midfield, Joelinton could add yet another position to his ever-growing list, as the versatile Brazilian might deputise in a deeper left midfield role. That allows Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes to retain their spots at the heart of midfield.
A surprise inclusion could be Anthony Gordon, as despite his tantrum after being substituted last game, the former Everton winger could prove imperative in spearheading counter-attacks. Having moved for £45m in January, perhaps the weight of the price tag is contributing to the struggles of the 22-year-old.
Despite being branded "disgraceful" by pundit Darren Ambrose for his actions, the wide man ranks in the top 3% when compared to others in his role across Europe for tackles per 90. His inclusion is a no-brainer.
That leaves a front two that picks itself, with Alexander Isak pairing the recalled Callum Wilson.
newcastle-united-premier-league-aston-villa
With the former having scored five in his last five, and the latter assisting from the bench last time out to claim his fourth goal contribution in three games, there are few strike partnerships as feared as this duo in the league at the moment.
They could well spearhead their side to further glory in what would be a massive result on the road.
Newcastle United will be going into the summer transfer window with a serious interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
Is McTominay for sale in the summer?
The 26-year-old midfielder now has just over two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford ahead of the summer transfer window.
There have been some reports suggesting that there is an increasing possibility that the Scottish midfielder could leave in the coming months.
McTominay has impressed massively over the last week having starred for his national side in their opening Euro 2024 qualifiers where he netted four goals in two games.
And speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Craig Hope has shared the Toon's interest in the £60k-per-week midfielder with Eddie Howe said to be a big fan of his:
"That interest has resurfaced recently. It's never gone away. Eddie's [Howe] an admirer and I think there are more inside St James' Park that see McTominay as more than the holding midfielder he's perhaps been billed as."
Would McTominay improve Newcastle?
Having signed last January, Bruno Guimaraes made an impressive start to life on Tyneside in front of goal having returned the Toon with five goals in just 17 appearances (via Transfermarkt).
The Brazilian has returned three goals and three assists in 20 appearances this season but McTominay could be seen as the perfect partner for the 25-year-old.
Having McTominay occupy the defensive midfield role could allow Guimaraes to play slightly further up the pitch and potentially increase his attacking output.
Scott McTominay celebrates after scoring for Scotland in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus at Hampden Park.
Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed McTominay as a "physical monster" and that can be seen through his return of aerial duels won which ranks inside the top 5% across Europe's top five leagues and competitions over the past year (via FBref).
And it is not just in the air where McTominay has shown his strength with the 26-year-old among the top percentile for clearances registered per 90 minutes.
The Red Devils are reportedly to be open to offers for the midfielder at the end of the season, however, we do wonder whether that may have changed over recent weeks.
Not only has McTominay's form been seriously impressive, but Newcastle have dramatically closed the gap on United over the last year and could be seen as a direct rival for next season.
So whether or not the Red Devils would be open to doing business with Newcastle remains to be seen with just three points currently separating the two sides.
Everton are ready to make a €15m (£13m) offer for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata this summer, according to a report from Il Giorno.
The Lowdown: Everton eyeing forward
The Toffees were keen on new attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window, coming close to signing Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma, before he instead went on to join Tottenham Hotspur.
It was not just Danjuma that Everton missed out on, with Andre Ayew deciding to move to Nottingham Forest, having attracted the interest of the Merseyside club on deadline day, while Kamaldeen Sulemana preferred a move to Southampton.
Zapata was an option in the earlier stages of the January transfer window, with former manager Frank Lampard personally requesting the striker, however the two clubs were unable to strike an agreement.
The Latest: Interest reignited
According to a report from Il Giorno (via Sport Witness), Everton are looking for a striker with physical power who is available for a fee that won’t break the bank , and they feel the Atalanta forward meets these requirements, so they are readying an approach.
The Toffees would be willing to offer €15m (£13m) to secure the services of the 31-year-old, who has seen his price tag collapse dramatically due to injuries and the emergence of young striker Rasmus Hojlund this season.
With the Colombian’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2024, the next transfer window is said to be the ideal time for Atalanta to recoup some money for him while they still can, potentially opening the door for a move to Merseyside.
The Verdict: Get it done?
Serie A analyst Matteo Bonetti has waxed lyrical about the veteran forward in the past, describing him as: ‘A freight train of a striker. One of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe who finally exploded in his late 20s. Excellent in the air, physically imposing and a much improved finisher. “
It has not been the easiest of seasons for the 34-time Colombia international, for the most part being limited to appearances from the bench due to a variety of different injury issues, and the goal-scoring exploits of Hojlund.
By the time Zapata is able to complete a move to Goodison Park he will be 32-years-old, and so his age, coupled with his injury record, means that it would be a risk to bring him in on anything longer than a two-year deal.
Provided the Serie A marksman is able to put his injury problems behind him, he could be a decent addition Sean Dyche’s squad, weighing in with a very respectable 82 goals and 42 assists in 181 appearances during his time with Atalanta.
