Warwickshire offspinner Maurice Holmes has been suspended from bowling after an independent analysis of his action. Holmes had been reported twice for a suspected illegal bowling action, first during the Clydesdale Bank 40 match between against Leicestershire on May 1 and again during the Second Xl Trophy match against Nottinghamshire on June 13.No previous evidence was available and so Holmes’ bowling action was subject to the independent analysis process set out in the ECB Regulations. The analysis took place on Friday June 24 and the subsequent report was received by the ECB on Wednesday July 6.The report identified that Holmes’ bowling action during the independent analysis was materially different to his action during the match in which he was reported in May and that the deliveries bowled during the independent analysis were not at a suitable pace.Consequently, and in accordance with the regulations, Holmes has been suspended from bowling for England and in competitive County Cricket until such time as he has submitted to a fresh independent analysis in which it is concluded that he has remedied his action. The suspension is with immediate effect.A Loughborough University student, he has been dubbed the ‘English Murali’ because of his ability to bowl a doosra and was recruited by Andy Moles when he was coach of New Zealand to help their batsmen prepare to face Muttiah Muralitharan on their 2009 tour. However, it is the doosra that is believed to be the cause of most concern.

Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has dropped a worrying injury claim regarding winger Jack Harrison ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with Brighton.

The Lowdown: Marsch’s comments

Harrison was withdrawn in the first half of the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday evening. Jesse Marsch admitted after the match he was hoping the injury wasn’t too serious, describing the issue as a ‘contusion’ that ‘limited him from moving’.

The 25-year-old, described as a ‘big influence’ by Marcelo Bielsa, has missed just three Premier League games all season and none under Marsch but was due to have a scan on Thursday morning.

However, it looks as if he could join a number of senior stars on the sidelines due to injury and suspension for the final home game of the campaign.

The Latest: Hay’s claim

Hay shared a story for The Athletic following another night to forget for Leeds against Thomas Tuchel’s side. When it came to injuries, he stated that Harrison is ‘probably beyond Marsch’s reach for the meeting with Brighton’.

Raphinha was also taken off with a slight hamstring concern in the second half, but that was thought to be simply as a precaution.

The Verdict: What next?

Leeds are running out of time, games and players in their attempts to avoid the drop, so should Harrison miss out on Sunday, Marsch will be left with limited resources in attack on what would be another big blow.

Providing Raphinha makes it, he could be the only senior wide man available at Elland Road. Youngsters Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood, who are suited to more central roles, could be Marsch’s only options.

An even narrower formation could be deployed as a result, and who knows, Patrick Bamford may make a timely return to the squad in a rare injury boost, should he return to team training today as expected.

South African fast bowler Friedel de Wet has signed a Kolpak contract with Hampshire for the 2011 County season.De Wet, 30, played two Tests for South Africa against England in 2009-10, picking up match figures of 5 for 127 on debut in the drawn Centurion Test.He picked up a stress fracture of the back in the third Test of that series and fell out of national contention, but has remained on the Highveld Lions’ books in domestic cricket.He also has some experience of England conditions as he was signed by Middlesex as a Kolpak player for the 2008 season, playing one game for their second XI before heading to Lancashire for some more second team cricket.”I’m looking forward to playing on the county circuit in the off season, and would like to thank the bizhub Highveld Lions for their support in this endeavor,” said de Wet.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by 90min, who claim that sources have revealed Victor Orta is hoping to hijack Newcastle United’s £15m signing of the Aston Villa loanee this summer, by launching an offensive of his own for the 26-year-old left-back.

The report goes on to state that both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City are also keen on the former England U21 international, however, Targett’s preferred destination is thought to be St. James’ Park.

Orta must move

Considering how impressive Targett has been following his January switch to Newcastle, coupled with Junior Firpo’s struggles on the left of the Leeds’ backline following his own £13m move to Elland Road last summer, it is not difficult to see why Orta would be keen on a deal for the Aston Villa defender at the end of the season.

Indeed, over his 12 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, the £15.3m-rated full-back has been in fantastic form for Eddie Howe’s side, making an average of 2.3 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 2.3 clearances and 0.2 blocks per game.

The £35k-per-week defender has also impressed in a creative capacity, making an average of 1.3 key passes, 1.6 crosses and 1.8 long balls per fixture, in addition to completing 0.6 dribbles and taking 0.5 shots per outing.

These returns have seen the player who Aaron Stokes dubbed a “tremendous” signing and James Hendicott labelled a “beast” average a WhoScored match rating of 6.99, ranking him as Newcastle’s fifth-best player in the top flight.

Meanwhile, over Firpo’s 19 league fixtures for the Whites, the £10.8m-rated left-back has been rather less impressive, averaging an extremely disappointing SofaScore match rating of 6.59, ranking him as Jesse Marsch’s seventh-worst performer in the division.

As such, it is clear to see that the signing of Targett would be a huge upgrade on the 25-year-old Dominican Republic international, leading us to believe that Orta must do all he can to land the former England youth international this summer.

However, with Newcastle also appearing extremely keen on making the defender’s temporary stay at St. James’ Park a permanent move at the end of the current campaign, the Spanish sporting director certainly has a battle on his hands for the Aston Villa sensation.

أعلن مجلس إدارة الأهلي عن اعتماد خطة النشاط الرياضي والعمل في العام الجديد خلال الاجتماع الذي جرى ظهر اليوم بمقر النادي في الجزيرة.

وأوضح الأهلي أيضًا أنه تم اعتماد مشروع الموازنة لعام 2022-2023، بالإضافة إلى استعراض المجلس الترتيبات الخاصة بانعقاد الجمعية العمومية المقرر لها يومي 28 و29 نوفمبر الجاري لتوفير كافة التسهيلات وسبل الراحة للأعضاء في كافة الفروع، للانتقال إلى المقر الرئيسي على مدار اليومين اللذين تعقد فيهما الجمعية العمومية.

But it was Neil McCallum who clinched the victory for the Saltires in their opening game of the campaign, hitting 27 off 19 balls with two boundaries plus a massive six off Matthew Hoggard’s final ball of the 39th over.The defeat was Leicestershire’s third in a row in Group C after they had started the season with an impressive victory over Nottinghamshire. For Scotland the win signalled a welcome return to form after they failed to reach the world Twenty20 finals, losing all three of their group qualifying games.They fully deserved the success over the Foxes, producing a solid all-round team performance after losing the toss. Their bowlers restricted the home side to a below par total of 217 for 7 despite conceding 20 wides in a total of 25 extras.But they still managed to contain the home batsmen with only Jacques Du Toit and James Taylor really finding any form, both of them scoring half-centuries as they shared a second wicket stand of 105. Du Toit reached his 50 off 70 balls with three fours and a six before trying one big hit too many to be caught on the long-on boundary off the bowling of Ryan Watson.Taylor, whose half-century came off 68 balls, was then run out with a direct hit on the stumps from Watson with the total at 141 and from that point on the Foxes were unable to put any real pressure on the Scotland attack.Paul Nixon made a run-a-ball 34 but there was little support for him and with Gordon Goudie claiming three for 45 Scotland could be happy with their work in the field. And they did just as well with the bat, staying up with the asking rate after being given a steady start by Gavin Hamilton and Watson.Bailey and Berrington gave the middle of the innings a boost with their half-centuries with Bailey reaching his off 67 balls and Berrington taking only 51 deliveries for his 50. When both were out in the closing overs it looked as though the Foxes might edge home but McCallum shattered those hopes with his breezy innings at the death.
