Everton fans question Oumar Niasse’s involvement in Under-23 setup

Oumar Niasse has not played a single minute of first-team football for Everton this season. The striker has been involved for the club’s Under-23 and Under-21 sides, though, and that was again the case on Tuesday night as he turned out against Fleetwood Town. The 29-year-old could not prevent David Unsworth’s side from suffering a 4-0 defeat in the EFL Trophy, although the fact that he is playing at all has been questioned by the supporters.[ad_pod ]Indeed, a fan account on Twitter claimed that they could not understand why Niasse – who is not in Marco Silva’s plans – was playing for the club’s reserves considering that he is taking a spot that a young player could potentially fill. Some of the supporters have blamed Unsworth for the call whilst others have taken the chance to have another go at their club.Watch Everton Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Crystal Palace fans react to Ollie Watkins’ two-goal display for Brentford against QPR

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after a summer transfer target for the club in Ollie Watkins hit two goals for Brentford against QPR on Monday evening.

The 23-year-old was the subject of interest from the Eagles back in the summer, and the south Londoners even submitted an £11m bid for the forward – Palace’s offer came after they were believed to be circling Watkins back in 2018 as well.

Eventually, the 5 foot 11 attacker signed a new four-year contract with the Bees.

Watkins has been in fine form for the Championship side so far this term, scoring 10 goals in 14 starts – he is behind only 11-goal Aleksandar Mitrovic in the scoring ranks.

Some Palace fans on Twitter had already been speaking about Watkins earlier this season after he scored a hat-trick against Barnsley, and they have been drawn back to their keyboards after the same player scored twice in Monday’s west London derby.

Let’s take a look at what the Palace supporters on Twitter had to say…

Barcelona’s Riqui Puig might be making a mistake by not going out on loan

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

A lot has been said about Riqui Puig already – the 20-year-old pearl of La Masia is definitely one of the Barcelona youngsters the Blaugrana have high hopes for.

But his situation has been causing an internal debate in recent times – he seems to be too good for the Segunda Division B, the third level of football in Spain, and yet, there’s no room for him in the senior team.

And seeing how he’s been a victim of some harsh treatment by the opposition at Barcelona B, one thing became crystal clear – he shouldn’t stay there any longer as the risk became too big.

But if the recent reports coming from Sport are true, Puig refuses to leave the club any time soon and is determined to make it at the Catalan capital.

While that sort of attitude is certainly praiseworthy and admirable, it could be the thing that comes back to bite him in the end.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Staying loyal to Barcelona is definitely a good sign for the club but his stubbornness to leave on loan in order to get some valuable experience and minutes, and more importantly, get away from the difficult circumstances of the Segunda Division B, might hamper his short term development.

And yes, it might be far too early to actually talk about such drastic measures but it’s unlikely he continues his development by staying put at Barcelona B.

According to Sport, that is exactly his idea – staying and becoming good enough for Ernesto Valverde to include him in the senior squad.

But can that actually happen if he doesn’t make that necessary step up?

At the moment, it seems that Puig is choosing the absolute worst option presented to him and for his and the club’s sake, let’s hope it doesn’t backfire.

Leeds’ QSI update reveals how they could potentially become a heavyweight

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Whether or not Andrea Radrizzani will sell a slice of his stake at Leeds has been a topic doing the rounds for what feels like an eternity.

The Italian businessman hit back in February, suggesting that the idea of a total sale was nonsense.

However, the fact he could be open to more investment further down the line hasn’t been ruled out and that’s clear for all to see judging by his latest comments.

Whether or not you’re a fan of the Qatar Sports Investment who own European heavyweights PSG, it’s hard to deny their funding couldn’t help take Leeds further up the pyramid in England.

Their financial might has been colossal in the French capital, helping them to buy players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

They’ve won multiple titles in what has been one of the greatest periods in their history, and it’s all primarily come as a result of QSI’s funding.

Supporters seem divided on what the future would hold if they arrived in west Yorkshire in a story lingering around Elland Road since June.

L’Equipe initially reported that discussions could take place between Nesser al-Khelaifi and the Leeds board but nothing seemed to materialise.

However, the potential of mass investment further down the line could soon become a reality. Telling The Times, Radrizzani said the following about future buyers:

“The option of Qatar Sports Investment and Nasser — first of all they are friends, we have had a good relationship for a long time. Secondly, they have the possibility to bring this club to compete with Manchester City, so for the fans that could be a fantastic opportunity.”

The fact Leeds could be on par with a club like Manchester City is quite the statement but it’s hard to deny just what added financial firepower can bring to a club.

After all, the way PSG’s revenue has spiralled in a positive fashion is quite frankly breathtaking.

Before QSI took over, their total revenue from the 2010/11 season stood at €101m (£88.7m at the time of writing). Once they’d been in control for a season, that went up to €221m (£194.2m).

But the biggest sign of just how far PSG have come under their Qatari owners is the €542m (£476.3m) they brought in from the 2017/18 season.

Considering that number, is it really any surprise the Ligue 1 side have done so well? Probably not.

It’s investment and revenue that shows just how Leeds could place themselves back on the map, competing among the big boys of English football again.

The club have been stuck in the doldrums of Championship football for a while and not since 2000/01 have they been in the Champions League.

Investment has been made from Radrizzani but added help from a company as rich as QSI could finally be the catalyst they need to get back into the Premier League and consequently compete for European places as well.

It’s a long way off, but it’s not beyond the realms of fantasy. Just look at how Wolves have now placed themselves in the Europa League.

Newcastle United: Fans rave over Fabian Schar

Despite Newcastle’s many defensive frailties evident in their big losses to the likes of Norwich and Leicester City this season, Fabian Schar seemingly retains the support of supporters online.

The Swiss defender has been a mainstay in the Newcastle side for the past two seasons, even being linked to an array of top-flight clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham according to the Mirror.

Schar’s defensive ability is only complimented by his contribution going forward, with WhoScored.com outlining his five goals in two seasons for the Magpies – including being awarded an impressive seven Man of the Match awards in that time.

Although Steve Bruce’s men have leaked 13 goals already this season, Schar leads the way in terms of interceptions per game this season, so is clearly making an impact on Tyneside.

The 27-year-old, who is valued at £10.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), is also performing on the international front for his country, helping to spearhead a Euro 2020 qualification race where Switzerland are only four points off a top-two spot with a game in hand.

Understandably, some Newcastle fans have been praising the defender whilst debating over the best assets of the squad.

Watford’s Ben Foster uploads a ridiculous photo on Instagram

Take a minute to drink it all in.

How do you even go about explaining a photo of Ben Foster dressed as a clown in cycling gear holding two dinner ladies in his arms?

It sounds ridiculous when you read it, but the more you look at it, the sillier it gets.

Why is the woman’s hand so close to Foster’s crotch? Why is he dressed as a clown? Why isn’t his jacket zipped up?

There are so many questions to ask about this image, but unfortunately, they may never be answered.

Luckily, Foster has assured supporters that the gear he is sporting will be sold in the club shop in the near future, and while the goalkeeper reckons it will sell out quickly, we can’t see many Watford fans queuing up to buy this piece of merchandise.

2 Crystal Palace players who must step up despite back-to-back Premier League wins

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

For the first time since successive wins over Cardiff and Bournemouth at the end of last season, Crystal Palace have recorded back-to-back Premier League successes once again with their recent victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa.

As a result of those wins and a point against Everton on the opening day, the south Londoners currently sit fourth in the Premier League and also have the best defensive record in the division having conceded just twice.

A number of players have shone in those games, such as Jordan Ayew and Cheikhou Kouyate, but despite the impressive six-point haul, there have been a few members of Roy Hodgson’s starting XI who must do more.

James McArthur

The Scot has been a mainstay in Hodgson’s XI since the former England manager was appointed as Frank de Boer’s replacement, but he must do more to keep that spot – especially with the addition of his former Wigan and Hamilton teammate James McCarthy and Victor Camarasa.

In the win over United, McArthur didn’t have a single shot, nor did he complete a dribble, nor did he create a key pass whilst also being dispossessed once – he also didn’t register a single tackle.

Against Villa, the 31-year-old missed a golden first-half chance to open to scoring, which could’ve been costly had Jordan Ayew not bailed him out with a second-half strike – McArthur also had four unsuccessful touches.

Wilfried Zaha

A surprise name on this list, but a player who has the undoubted ability to be doing more.

Zaha is yet to score a goal or record an assist so far this term, and just by watching the back-to-back wins, it’s easy to get frustrated at the Ivorian’s lack of impact.

The Palace No.11 had just one shot on target combined from the wins over United and Villa, whilst also completing just one key pass across both of those games.

The 26-year-old hasn’t been awful as such, but given his vast talent, he can definitely step up and do more.

Tottenham fans react to Anthony Georgiou’s outing for Cyprus

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur’s Anthony Georgiou helped Cyprus record a 4-0 win over San Marino in Monday night’s Euro 2020 qualification match.

The 22-year-old did not start the international affair but was introduced at the break as Ran Ben Shimon’s side put three points on the board in routine fashion.

Georgiou was involved in Tottenham’s preparations for the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the defender was deemed surplus to requirements during the summer – joining Ipswich Town on loan until the start of 2020.

The versatile left-sided player has made three League One appearances for his loan club this term, and will be hoping to impress in the third tier with the view to returning to Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the January transfer window.

Tottenham’s official Twitter account drew attention to Georgiou’s performance for his country, which led to a few of the Premier League club’s fans taking to social media to reveal their thoughts.

Liverpool’s Joel Matip or Joe Gomez dilemma a lot simpler after Southampton display

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

One of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s biggest selection dilemmas at the beginning of the 2019/20 season has been who partners the imperious Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are the two frontrunners with Dejan Lovren seemingly fourth choice having failed to make the matchday squad in the Premier League so far, and it was the former who got the nod in their opening two fixtures of the campaign against Manchester City in the Community Shield and Norwich City in the top flight.

The Merseyside outfit conceded in both games, and it was a little bit surprising the Cameroon international didn’t make the XI against the Canaries given he found the net at Wembley against the Citizens just a few days previously.

However, the 28-year-old did line up alongside the Dutchman in the Super Cup against Chelsea in Istanbul in midweek, with Gomez staying in the team but switching to right-back instead.

Following 120 minutes of football plus penalties, the former Schalke man kept his place for the trip to face Southampton on Saturday, and he would have been looking to prove to his manager that he should be ahead of his England international teammate in the pecking order.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It would be hard to argue that he convincingly did that though, even if Liverpool returned to Merseyside with three points and just the one goal conceded – courtesy of a huge blunder by Adrian.

The scoreline didn’t tell the whole story of what was a difficult day for van Dijk and Matip at times though, with their collective defending letting them down on more than one occasion – whether it was their heavy legs from their Super Cup exertions or not, it was still concerning.

For example in the first half Saints striker Che Adams ghosted in between the duo and should have done better with a header from Oriol Romeu’s cross, while Maya Yoshida had a free header to the centre of the goal from about six yards out that Adrian did well to palm away.

Matip looked far from comfortable on the ball when the likes of Adams and Nathan Redmond pressing him, and his passing accuracy of 78.7% from the match, according to WhoScored, was far from ideal.

The African defender still looks better in the air than he does in possession, even if The Liverpool Echo reported post-match that his passing was improved from in Turkey after issuing their match ratings.

He also made 10 clearances, although some examples of those were him putting the ball into touch even when he wasn’t under serious pressure.

Chances still came in the second half and while neither centre-half could do anything about Danny Ings’ gift, they should have done better when the former Red was left on his own little more than six yards out late on, only to not make enough contact with the ball.

It was another three points on the board but it didn’t come without some negatives, and on this showing anyway Klopp is better off opting for van Dijk and Gomez as his first-choice centre-back pairing.
